Tafsir
And if they desist from fighting you, do not fight them. Fighting is for Allah. War is not for taking ground or killing people. Therefore, do not kill unjustly, give opportunity to those who ask for mercy, and spread Allah's justice on the earth.
Allah is Oft-Forgiving; there is no god but Allah so that people may seek refuge in Him. When people turn to Allah and repent, Allah (swt) forgives their sins with His attribute of forgiveness. During the period of ignorance, people committed sins, disobeyed the commands of Allah (swt) and even disbelieved in Allah (swt). They ascribe shirk to Allah and worship idols made with their own hands. When such people repent, Allah forgives their sins. In one of his hadiths, the Prophet (PBUH) says, "Even if your sins reach the clouds in the sky, Allah (swt) will change your sins into good deeds when you repent.
He is Merciful; whoever lives obedient to Allah in this world and passes on to the Hereafter as a servant of Allah and an ummah of the Prophet, Allah will have mercy on him in the Hereafter. And his mercy is only for them.

The others are stories. Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 192: If they cease fighting, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. If they cease fighting you, do not fight them either. For when someone asks you for mercy, for you to kill him — your killing him is forbidden to you. Fighting is for Allah. War is not for taking land or killing people. So do not take lives unjustly; give a chance to whoever asks for mercy; spread Allah's justice on earth. What does Allah Almighty say? Spread right and justice on earth, He says. Allah Almighty is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. There is no god other than Allah for people to take refuge in.
When people turn to Allah and repent, Allah Almighty, with His attribute al-Ghaffar, forgives people's sins. In the age of ignorance people commit sins. They go against the commands of Allah Almighty. They even deny Allah. They associate partners with Allah. They worship idols they made with their own hands. Such people — when they repent, Allah forgives their sins. The Prophet (peace be upon him) says in one of his hadiths: even if your sins reached the clouds in the sky, when you repent once, Allah Almighty turns your sins into good deeds. What is it, then? Those who transgressed and then ask you for mercy — give them a chance; perhaps they, within their destinies, will be reformed. There are those who will return to Islam.
You cannot know these things. In that case you will have transgressed. Carry out My command. (?) to whoever asks you for mercy. Do not draw the sword. Do not kill them. He is Most Merciful. Whoever in this world is obedient to Allah, lives so, and passes into the hereafter as a servant to Allah and of the Prophet's community, Allah in the hereafter shows him mercy, and His mercy (?) only these. The attribute ar-Rahim.
