The wives of those among you who die shall wait for four months and ten days by themselves (before getting married). When their waiting period is over, there is no sin upon you for the lawful actions they are doing for themselves. Verily, Allah is aware of what you are doing.
Tafsir
According to the verse (Every soul will taste death), if a married man dies, he can leave behind one or more wives. The wife or wives of the deceased cannot marry for four months and ten days, there are reasons for that.
The first reason is to test whether a woman is pregnant or not. A woman has her monthly period three or four times in four months and ten days. This means that her womb is completely clean. If it is found that there is a child in her womb, she cannot marry until the child is born. This is a sign of the sorrow of the nikah right on that woman. Another reason is that her husband has died and she is grieving for his family or for the spiritual person of her husband. This kind of behavior strengthens social relations between people. Since such a period of time has passed by the relatives of the deceased, their grief is alleviated. The woman's inability to marry another man is also eliminated.
Another reason is that many suspicions may arise for the woman. If a woman who does not wait four months and ten days has a child with the man she married, they will say whether the child is from the dead man or her current husband. Because children can be born at seven months. According to the verse (Do not make conjecture), Allah (swt) removes the conjecture about the woman by setting the period of four months and ten days. This is how Allah protects those who believe in Him.
(When they have finished their waiting period, there is no sin on you in what they do about themselves legitimately). When four months and ten days have elapsed after the death of her husband, she may wear ornamental jewelry on her own. She may legitimately talk about marriage with another man. These are the rights that Allah (swt) has given her. These cannot be restricted by others.
What is said in the video
Yes, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 234 — we begin with that verse, God willing. The wives left behind by those of you who die wait, on their own, without marrying, four months and ten days. When they have completed their waiting period, there is no sin on you in the lawful things they do concerning themselves, He says.
So when a woman's husband dies, she will wait four months and ten days. Within these four months and ten days — after four months and ten days, sir — so that it becomes clear whether she is carrying a child in her womb, she will wait those four months and ten days. Then, when someone seeks her hand, within the decisions he makes, within the decisions the woman makes, when she herself decides to marry someone else, there is no sin on the others. According to the verse every soul will taste death, a married man (?) becomes. That is, if he dies, he may leave behind one or more wives. After all, there are people married to two, three, four.
They may leave them. The wife or wives of the deceased cannot marry for four months and ten days. There are reasons for this. The first reason is the test of whether the woman is pregnant or not. Within four months and ten days a woman menstruates three or four times. This shows that her womb is completely clear. If it turns out there is a child in the womb, until the child is born the woman cannot marry. Because that child belongs to that household, to the father's household. This is the sign of the lasting effect of the marriage right over that woman.
What did we say? That child belongs to the father's hearth. She cannot take it anywhere else. The effect of the marriage right.
Another reason is that her husband has died. It is the mourning she will keep for his family or for her husband's spiritual person.
Behaving this way strengthens social relations among people. Now think: one of us, his wife has died; she has sons, sir, and the mother went to another husband. And in her womb there is a child. There is a child.
Where she has gone, his own sibling will feel like a stranger to him. But she stays in that household. She gives birth to that child there. Then, if she goes wherever she wishes — her children are still her children. Her children are her children, but the siblings also know him, and he is together with his siblings, and that family toward one another increases its sincerity, its relations, its civil relations. To say this more plainly, it is like this. I am the father, I have a wife, our son got married, my son passed away.
My son's — in his wife's womb there is a child. Sir, would I agree to this child going to another man? No. Even though Allah Almighty gives the woman the right to marry after four months and ten days, what does He say? Until that child is born, because of the effect of that marriage, that woman must stay in that household. She will give birth there, she will give birth to that child there. Out of respect for it. It also increases civil relations. That is, it increases their bonds with one another. Then, after those children are born, that mother and father, or grandfather, grand- father, grandmother, will at least have seen their children.
And she is still the mother. Let her take it to the man she married and go, but a sincerity arises there. So, to prevent this grief, this discord among people, Allah Almighty sets such a beautiful law. Yes.
Since such a period passes for the relatives of the deceased, their pain will also have eased, eased. And the woman's state of not marrying another man is also lifted.
And that family says: now, my daughter, you are young.
Sir, when a suitor comes along, marry. Even if for about a year we are like your mother and father, we are not telling you: marry and leave here. We are not obliged to look after you, but whenever you wish to marry, we will not stand in your way. That is what they should say.
Now Asım is asking a question. How many days should a man whose wife has died wait in order to remarry? Could you explain? he asks. Now, Allah Almighty has not set a law for men. Why has He not? Now I will explain it to you, Asım. Yes, such a thing comes to people's minds. Allah Almighty, that is, in the religion of Islam, says to the man: marry as many as you can afford. As many as you can afford. But the good is in one, He says. If you are seeking the good, the good is in one. That is, necessarily four, five, six if you can afford it — (?). But when He says marry as many as you can afford — we will answer Asım's question, we will discuss it.
Today, can you show me — exceptions do not break the rule — a man married to one person who stays devoted to his wife without committing adultery outside? Very rare. There are, rare. Rare. And the woman (?) him. And the woman (?) him. Why? In a single hand. Whereas they spread filth, go to adultery, have their affairs, fall into sin.
And outside, women wander aimlessly in filth. Now, let us say the man has three, four wives. He has wives. His wife died. One of them died. One of them.
In this case the man went and buried his wife. He had (?) recited for her soul. Sir, he had a full Quran recitation done. And death is Allah's command, it is certain. The one who left has left. The one who remains will go on with his life. Now this man — I ask Asım — should he not go to his other wives?
For this there is no (?) for men. There is no harm. There is no harm for the man.
But for the woman there is a command, so that it becomes clear whose the child is. A seed has been sown in the field. Did it take or did it not? If it took, it will become clear within these four months and ten days. If it did not take, that too will become clear. But there is no such thing for the man. Yes. Asım.
If you are not satisfied, I will explain with other matters. Asım.
The wives left behind by those of you who die wait, on their own, without marrying, four months and ten days.
When they have completed their waiting period, in the lawful things they do concerning themselves there is no sin on you. That is, in the things they themselves do, she herself can decide. That is, it symbolizes the woman's freedom here. That the authority of that family, that is, of her husband, of his mother and father, over her has been lifted — it shows that. Here. Sir, the woman can now make her own decision on her own.
Now, we have gone through two reasons here. Let us also read the reason for the woman's waiting four months and ten days. It is the test of whether the woman is pregnant or not. Within four months and ten days a woman menstruates three or four times. This shows that her womb is completely clear. If it turns out there is a child in the womb, the woman does not marry until the child is born.
This is the sign of the lasting effect of the marriage right over that woman. That is, she is within the authority of that family. Another reason: her husband has died; it is the mourning she will keep for his family or for her husband's spiritual person. Behaving this way strengthens social relations among people. Since such a period passes for the relatives of the deceased, their pain will also have eased. And the woman's state of not marrying another man is also lifted. That is, she can now marry. Another reason: many suspicions may arise about the woman. If a woman who did not wait four months and ten days became pregnant by the man she married, people would say: is this child born from the deceased man or from her present husband?
Because children can be born at seven months. According to the verse do not engage in suspicion, Allah Almighty, by setting a period of four months and ten days, removes the suspicions about the woman. In this way Allah protects those who believe in Him. Those who believe in Allah. In fact Allah Almighty is always protecting the woman here. So that no suspicion falls on them, so that no (?) befalls them. Because He gives them to the man as a trust. He also created her self half, created it deficient, so that she be obedient, so that harmony is maintained in the family. Yes, when they have completed their waiting period, in the lawful things they do concerning themselves there is no sin on you. That is, on the grandfather, grandmother, grandparents left behind, that is, there is no sin. When the woman has completed four months and ten days after her husband's death, she may on her own wear adornments and jewelry.
That is, she can now go out for marriage. She may talk lawfully about marrying another man. This is the authority of the rights Allah Almighty has given the woman. These cannot be restricted by others. That is: look, girl, what are you doing? My husband, still, sir — excuse me — you have been here four months, five months. Who are you going and talking to? You cannot say that. She herself is free. The woman is free. Because she has fallen out of the marriage. There is no longer a child from him either. It is clear. Now she can make her own decision.
