Translation

If you are travelling and you cannot find anyone to write it down, a pledge (for what has been borrowed) is sufficient. If you entrust each other with something, the person who was entrusted should give it back to its owned and fear Allah who is his Lord. Do not conceal the testimony. Whoever conceals it should know that his heart is sinful. Allah knows what you are doing.

Tafsir

People may need each other while traveling. They have been delayed in their work, or they have run out of money, or they have lost their money, or they have been stranded for some reason. In this case, it is necessary to borrow money from someone. If the lender cannot find a scribe, it is sufficient for the borrower to leave a deposit with his debtor. Whoever takes this relic and does not return it to him, even though the owner has paid the debt, let him fear Allah, his Lord. No human being has the right to oppress another human being. If the needy person pays the debt that he has borrowed to fulfill his need, but the person does not pay it back to the owner and usurps the person's property, he has violated his rights. In the eyes of Allah, such events are a grave sin.

O witnesses! Do not conceal what you know. Do not victimized the one you are witnesses to in order that people may take advantage of you. Whoever does this is a sinful person. Because this person has changed Allah's commandment on himself for the benefit of the world and has victimized the other person. Or more than that, he has made him a criminal. Such people are the only ones whose hearts are far from Allah and filled with the love of the world. Of course, such people are those whose hearts have become darkened and sinful because they have not listened to Allah's commands.

(Allah knows what you are doing.) Surely Allah is the Creator of the worlds and there is no god but Him, the Owner of all these worlds. Just as a human being is aware of his deeds and possessions, even though he is human and incompletely created, Allah is aware of His creation. He is not free from them. He even knows what those who will come until the Day of Resurrection will do.

What is said in the video

To verse 283 we have come. If you are on a journey and cannot find anyone to write. That is, Ibrahim, we are travelling. I have no money for food and drink; lend me a thousand lira. Fine, what do you have? You have goods worth two thousand or fifteen hundred lira with you. I leave it with him in trust. In trust, as its counterpart. Let's see, I don't know whether the verse says so. A pledge taken against the debt is also sufficient. Yes, a pledge taken against a debt is sufficient. You give him a pledge, (?) let's say a cup, a (?), whatever you have taken. If you leave a trust with one another, let the one entrusted return the trust to its owner and fear Allah, his Lord.

Why? I took a thousand lira from Ibrahim and left him a trust worth two thousand. I reached my hometown. And once I was relieved: Ibrahim, take your thousand lira. No, I won't take it. Why? I don't want the money. My property. I took your property.

What has this become? You have seized the person's property. This has become usurpation. You swindled, in other words.

This has left the bounds of mutual help. Yes. And let him fear Allah, his Lord. Do not conceal the testimony you know. Whoever conceals it, let him know that his heart is sinful. The testimony. Whoever conceals it. Allah knows what you do. If Allah Almighty, who wrote our destiny — at the call of Elestü bi-Rabbiküm, our wishes and desires, our aims, as destiny for us — says of testimony: do not conceal what you know, whoever conceals it, let him know that his heart is sinful — then those He speaks of, their hearts are sinful. Because our Lord does not speak in vain. If about the Beloved of the Almighty, the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad (peace be upon him), He says, he does not speak idly, then He Himself never speaks idly.

His heart is sinful. If he conceals the testimony. Why would a person conceal testimony?

Ahmet Efendi lent me money. And Mehmet Efendi is a witness to this.

The borrower says to Mehmet Efendi: there is this much money for you. You were the witness, so say it like this. This much for you. And you, as witness: yes, friend, you gave him not this much but this much. Well, if this one's heart is not sinful, what is it?

Yes. Allah Almighty makes everything known in the clearest detail to people through the rulings of sharia. Those who fear, saying here comes sharia — hey, sharia, do you know what it is? Law, law. Allah calls law sharia, that is, in Arabic. Law.

The law that protects people's rights down to the finest detail, that lets no one be wronged — because it did not suit the enemies of religion, the traitors to the homeland, those who live as parasites, the underground mafias, they made sharia out to be a bogeyman.

A bogeyman, they made it out to be, a bogeyman.

Well, those people who set up courts in the name of what your civil law calls human rights — can they make better human rights than Allah's law? Can they issue better laws? Show me one, and you can take my head. What comes out of my mouth is true. I'll give my head.

None of them can prove it. But I can prove that their so-called human rights — going there in the name of human rights, with laws that fit neither human rights nor humanity, or with (?), they turned them around. They have human rights the way it suits them.

People may come to need one another while travelling.

His business has dragged on, he has run out of money. In that case he has had to borrow from someone.

If the lender cannot find a scribe to write, it is also enough for the borrower to leave with the one he owes a trust. Whoever takes this trust and, though its owner pays his debt, does not give the trust back to him, let him fear Allah, his Lord. No person has the right to wrong any other person. If, though the one in need pays back the debt he took to meet his need, the person does not give the trust back to its owner and seizes his property, he has violated his right. In Allah's sight such deeds are among the major sins. Major sins.

Yes.

Look what Allah Almighty says to the witnesses. O witnesses! Do not conceal what you know either. In return for benefits people give you, do not put the one for whom you are a witness in a wronged position. As I said earlier. Ceyhun gave me 20 thousand lira. Gave 15 thousand lira. Gave 50 thousand lira. Whatever. And Elçin is my witness. Our witness. And I'm a bit of a bully, you see. I frighten Elçin. Say it like this, and five thousand lira is yours. And Ersin says fine, he agrees to the five thousand lira. He comes to me and asks for his money. Ceyhun — what money? What money? I gave you this much, didn't I — no, no, ten thousand lira, fifteen thousand lira.

I had taken ten thousand lira. How can that be? Ersin was our witness. Ersin comes and says, he had given ten thousand lira. You had taken ten thousand lira.

Ceyhun is stunned; there is nothing to say. In that case, haven't we seized Ceyhun's money? Are we now acting humanely toward Ceyhun's humanity?

So, first you will fear Allah in your conscience, then so that people are not wronged, (?) you will have it written before witnesses. And to the witnesses: when you are called, never fail to come, He says; and give testimony uprightly, if you fear Allah, He says.

In return for benefits people give you, do not put the one you witness for in a wronged position. Whoever does this is a sinful person. Because this person has exchanged Allah's command upon him for worldly benefit and wronged the person opposite him. Or, even worse, has put him in the position of the guilty one. Such people are people whose hearts are far from Allah, filled only with love of the world.

Certainly such people, since they do not heed Allah's commands, are people whose hearts have darkened and become sinful. Allah knows what you do, He says. Surely Allah is the One who created the worlds, besides whom there is no god, the Owner of all these worlds. Just as a person, despite being human and created deficient, is aware of what he does and of his property, so Allah is aware of what He creates. What are we saying? If a person, though created deficient, is aware of his property and possessions, he does not forget. He writes down all his property and possessions, keeps track, does the accounts.

Would Allah Almighty forget this property He created? He too, all of it — (?) — although He is not deficient. Since we, though deficient, do not forget, would He, who is free of deficient attributes, ever forget? Yes.

Allah, He says, is aware of what He creates. He is not detached from them. He even knows what all who will come until the Day of Judgement will do.
