Al-Baqarah 260: Abraham said to his Lord “Oh My Lord! Show to me how you resurrect the dead”. His Lord said to him “I know your desire to see how I resurrect the dead”. Abraham said “(I want to see it) so that my heart is assured”. “Catch four birds, take them to you, then (cut them into pieces and) put their pieces into the top of each mountain. Then call them to you; they will come back to you rushing. Know that Allah is Azeez (Exalted) and Hakeem (Ultimately-Wise).

The misinterpretation

To the Lord of Abraham, O my Lord! Show me how you raise the dead, he said. Lord to him. Or did you not believe? said. Ibrahim; He said no, I believed it, I wanted to see it to make my heart happy. So catch four birds, take them with you, then (cut to pieces) put a piece of them on the head of each mountain. Then call them to yourself; They come running to you. Know that Allah is the Aziz, the Judge.

The right translation

Abraham said to his Lord “Oh My Lord!

Explanation

This is where this verse also goes wrong. His Lord said to him, "Or have you not believed? The truth is that his Lord said to him. He said, "I know you desire to see how the resurrection takes place.

His Lord said to him. Or did you not believe?" Opening with the words, "Did you not believe?" is wrong. Opening in this way adjectivizes our Lord. It contradicts the verse in which our Lord says that there is not a single living creature that will come until the Day of Judgment that we do not know what it will do. Our Lord is the One Who is aware of the desires and wishes in the heart of man, and of what is in the farthest corners of his heart that man does not know about, and Our Lord is the One Who is aware of the mysteries of the hearts of men. Would our Lord say to Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him), "Or did you not believe? Opening the verse in this way is contrary to other verses. However, none of the words of our Lord contradict each other.

What is said in the video

We have probably explained those. We are moving on to our lesson. On page 43, verse 260 is translated wrongly. It's translated wrongly in 61, you know. Let's explain this part. Where is the mistake? Let me ask you. Let me ask you. Where is the mistake?

Abraham to his Lord: O my Lord, show me how You give life to the dead, he says. I am reading this wrongly translated verse. Listen well. Let's see if you can find the mistake.

Abraham had said to his Lord: O my Lord, show me how You give life to the dead. His Lord said to him: do you not believe, then? Abraham said: yes, I believe. I wanted to see so that my heart may be at rest.

Then catch four birds, take them to you, then cut them into pieces. Put a piece of them on top of every mountain, then call them to you. They will come to you running. Know that Allah is Mighty, Wise.

Now, perhaps you have the translations we have written in your hands. Let's not ask you here. Let me explain this part, listen well.

He says: show me how You give life to the dead. Right. His Lord said to him: do you not believe, then? This part is superstition. Why superstition?

It sets Allah Almighty opposite him, like a human being. And Allah Almighty doesn't know whether he believes or not. He asks him: do you not believe, then?

Abraham: yes, I believe. Look. I mean, as if Allah Almighty would not know what a prophet of His believes or not, what passes through his heart — sir, ascribing such heedlessness to Allah Almighty, they translate it here like this. Do you not believe, then? No, I believe. Like talking face to face, you and me. Yet look, how is that part? Let me read it to you here. He had said: show me how the dead come to life. And his Lord says to him: I know that you wish to see how the coming to life takes place. Look how beautiful. What does it say? I know that you wish to see how the coming to life takes place, He says.

Well, what does it say here? Here you and I are sitting facing each other. We don't know what will happen a moment later. We don't know what feelings a person is in. Allah and His servant are talking together like this. How are they talking? Do you not believe, then, He said. Abraham: yes, I believe. I wanted to see so that my heart may be at rest, he said. Now: do you not believe, then? Yes, I believe. Like me asking someone something. Hey, didn't you do this like this? No, I did. Or, as if I'm going to. Sir, it puts them into human form like this, to the same capacity, to the capacity of the human mind, and makes them talk that way.

Yet He is the Owner of these worlds. 'There is no living being to come until the Day of Judgment whose deeds We do not know' — this verse, pay attention to it.

What did Abraham (peace be upon him) say?

I know that you wish to see how the coming to life takes place, said Allah Almighty to Abraham (peace be upon him). Abraham said: I wanted to see so that my heart may be at rest. This time he expresses his bashfulness. He knows that Allah Almighty knows, knows what passes through his heart. There, with his bashfulness, what does Abraham (peace be upon him) say? Sir, Abraham said: I wanted to see so that my heart may be at rest. Then catch four birds, take them to you, then cut them into pieces, put a piece of them on top of every mountain, then call them to you. They will come to you running. Know that Allah is Mighty, Wise.

Yes. Allah is the Creator. He knows what He knows and how, He knows how He will do it.

The other day on television — I don't turn on the television, you know, but when I was bored — Diyanet's, from Diyanet, or what? From somewhere else? I can't tell. Probably it must have been Diyanet.

He's talking about, you know — about wisdom. He's talking about wisdom. Probably it wasn't Diyanet.

He has squeezed wisdom into his own head. He quotes the verse correctly. 'Whomever We give wisdom, We give good', he says. What is this? Pay attention to the verse. Whomever We give wisdom, We give good. He takes hold of wisdom. We, he says, must tell people about it as wisdom, he says. Wisdom. There is enjoining good, he says. He links enjoining good with wisdom. 'Whomever Allah Almighty gives wisdom, I give him good', he says. He links enjoining good with wisdom. Do you know what wisdom is, do you know wisdom? Why do you put your finger on something you don't know? Wisdom is Allah Almighty, for a person who has reached a certain level, who has reached a certain level in Allah's sight, telling him the event that will happen in response to his wish — that is His wisdom.

Wisdom and ... what does it say? The man explains, for example: if this and this happens like this, it will be like that, he says. That is, a person making known to Allah Almighty, sir, the wish for something he cannot know, to our Lord, and our Lord telling him that wisdom, that is, the inner side of that matter. This is called wisdom. Sir, if you are so ignorant as to confuse wisdom with enjoining good, getting up there, what are you telling them there?

That's how we were always misled, always. That's how they always confused us. Anyone who came along got up and talked. Anyone who came along got up and talked. No one knows what is what. They turned the religion into superstitions. Yes.
