The misinterpretation
O People of the Book! Why do you mix the truth with the curve and deliberately hide the truth?
The right translation
Oh people of the Book! Do not cover the Truth with falsehood despite that you know the Truth.
Explanation
In this verse, it has all been opened wrongly: When it is said, "You have mixed the right with the wrong," no wrong is mixed with the right. However, with false words and word games, they want to cover the falsehood with the truth. But according to the verse, "The truth has come and falsehood has been destroyed", their centuries of time and expense will be destroyed with the coming of the truth and all their efforts will end in failure.
Our Lord says in Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 8: (This is so that Allah may reveal the truth and remove falsehood, even if the criminals dislike it). The right and the wrong are never mixed together. Just as if we put water in a glass and pour some olive oil on top of the water, there is no way for them to mix with each other, so it is with the right and the wrong. Just as olive oil rises above water, so the word of truth covers and removes falsehood.
What is said in the video
On page 58, verse 71: O People of the Book! I am reading the wrong one. Why do you mix the right with the crooked and knowingly conceal the truth?
Look, what does it say? O People of the Book, why do you mix the right with the crooked and knowingly conceal the truth, it says. Yes. Everyone says: what is the mistake here? They explain right as wrong. The right with the crooked, they conceal. What does it say? You mix the right with the crooked and knowingly conceal the truth, it says. The right is always right. And the truth cannot be concealed. That is, it cannot be concealed with falsehood. You knowingly conceal the truth, it says. Do you know its correct version, its meaning? O People of the Book! Do not cover the truth with falsehood, cover the truth with falsehood and conceal it. Look how beautiful.
That is, there is no mixing the truth here. truly, it does not mix with falsehood. With what does it not mix? Now look. Let's put water in a bowl. Water. And let's pour olive oil on top. What does it do? The olive oil rises above the water. Why? Because the specific gravity of water is one, and the specific gravity of olive oil is below one, so it rises above the water. Those whose specific gravity is lighter than water rise above the water. Those whose specific gravity is heavier than water sink below the water. So here too: People of the Book, do not cover the truth with falsehood and conceal it.
Do not draw a veil over it. Yet you know the truth, it says. Why does it say you know the truth? Here too a beautiful statement emerges. If Allah's verses are explained well, the meaning changes. The meanings open up. Allah Almighty gave us a fine mind. He granted us a mind able to tell the crooked from the right. So those adorned with feelings of resentment and hatred against Allah Almighty, those who deny Allah, also have a fine mind that can understand what is right. In that case, although he knows what is right, out of his resentment against Allah Almighty he tries to lay falsehood over the truth.
That is why: you too know it, it says, the right. How beautifully it says it: the truth you know, it says, that is, you know what is right. Yes. Now, is this meaning here? Let's read. People of the Book, I am reading the old one: Why do you mix the right with the crooked, knowingly conceal the truth? What do you understand here? The right mixed with the crooked, concealed. Of course: People of the Book, do not cover the truth with falsehood and conceal it. Yet you know the truth. Look, "the truth" is beautiful too. A person, despite knowingly knowing the truth, trying to lay falsehood over the truth, trying to cover it with his tongue, with word games, knowingly displays his rebellion against Allah Almighty.
Yes.
