At-Tawbah 66: Do not bring excuses, because after believing, you became infidels again. We forgave a group among you (that repented) and We will punish the other group (that has not repented) because they are wrongdoers.

The misinterpretation

(In vain) Don't apologize. Because after you believed, you became a disbeliever again. Even if We forgive a (repentant) group of you, We will punish another group because of their guilt.

The right translation

Do not bring excuses, because after believing, you became infidels again. We forgave a group among you (that repented) and We will punish the other group (that has not repented) because they are wrongdoers.

Explanation

The verse that has been misunderstood here is as follows: Even if We forgive a group of you (who repent), We shall torment another group for their guilt. Verily: We have forgiven one group of you (who repented) and We will torment the other group (who did not repent) for their guilt.

Our Lord says in His Verse that We accept repentance in abundance. In the 119th verse of Surah Nahl, it says.

"119- Then surely your Lord will forgive those who do evil out of ignorance, then repent and amend their ways. For when they repent, your Lord is most forgiving, most merciful."

There are many verses in many verses that our Lord accepts the repentance of those who repent. The meaning of this verse is this: Our Lord has forgiven those who repented and became disbelievers, then realized that disbelief is shirk to Our Lord, then repented to Our Lord and returned to Islam. This is because our Lord created people with a mistake. The person made a mistake. Then he realized his mistake, apologized to our Lord, who accepts repentance, and repented. Those who did not repent remained unbelievers. It does not mean that Allah will not accept the repentance of those who do not repent. Every soul will be rewarded for what it does of its own volition. And our Lord will repay people for what they have done with justice.

Verse 66, look what it says. I'm reading the wrong one. Don't make excuses in vain. For you have disbelieved again after believing. Even if We forgive a group of you who repent, a group We will also punish because they are guilty, it says. Well now, what is there here? Let me look again. Look what's here – it says it beautifully, but there's such a subtle point here. Don't make excuses in vain, for you have disbelieved again after believing. Even if We forgive a group of you who repent, a group We will also punish because they are guilty. Instead of saying "a group of those who repent", it should say "if We forgive those who repent". Since it's very far away, my ears hear poorly. (?) (?) Sir, now there it says: a group of those who repent. As if it discriminates among those who repent.

Whereas now it should say: even if We forgive those who repent. Yes. Look, there it's correct. Even if We forgive those who repent, it says. So, He won't forgive, that is. When you say "even if We forgive", things change. As if, of some of those who repent, a portion He will not forgive. Don't make excuses in vain. For you have disbelieved again after believing. This part is correct. Of you who repent, We forgave a group, it says. Look: a group of you who repented, We forgave. Let him say it. I've slipped something nice in there.

We forgave a group that repented. And the other group that didn't repent We will punish because they are guilty, it says. What comes out here? The meaning of which verse comes out?

When you explain it, you'll say (?). The meaning of the verse "Allah Almighty is the One who accepts repentance abundantly" comes out. Yes. So however guilty one may be, there is no repentance He does not accept. Allah Almighty surely accepts it. But as long as one does not repent, it becomes obstinacy, and you have departed as an unbeliever. The door of repentance is open until the soul reaches the throat. After the soul reaches the throat, when Allah Almighty closes the door of repentance to him, He shows him the filth he did throughout his life. When that person sees the truth, he understands from there that he will go to hell.

Still he does not believe in the oneness of Allah. Therefore he departs as an unbeliever. Yes.
