Az-Zumar 8: When calamity befalls a person, they turn and pray to Allah. But when granted a blessing from Allah, some forget their prayers and again associate partners with Allah, hindering others from Allah’s path. (Oh, My Messenger!) Say, “Enjoy your denial for a while; surely, you are among the people of hell.”

The misinterpretation

When trouble comes to a person, he turns to his Lord and begs Him. Then, when Allah gives him a blessing from himself, he forgets that he had begged before. He sets up equals for Allah to lead him astray from His path. (O Muhammad!) Say; Have some fun with your disbelief, for you are surely from the people of Hell.

The right translation

When calamity befalls a person, they turn and pray to Allah. But when granted a blessing from Allah, some forget their prayers and again associate partners with Allah, hindering others from Allah’s path. (Oh, My Messenger!) Say, “Enjoy your denial for a while; surely, you are among the people of hell.”

Explanation

This is where this verse goes wrong: He forgets what he had begged before. Verily: (Some of them) forget what they have begged before.

You cannot put all people in the same character and equate the disbelievers, the ungrateful, the rebellious, the people who are caught up in the desires of their nafs with the people who remember and know Allah, who are grateful to our Lord and know our Lord great. People are not robots so that they are the same. Except for those who know our Lord and obey Him. And the truth of the verse is: (Some) forget what they used to beg.

What is said in the video

Verse 8, wrongly rendered: When some hardship befalls man, turning to his Lord he implores Him. Then, when Allah grants him a blessing from Himself, he forgets what he had implored before. In order to lead astray from Allah's path, he sets up partners to Him. It states this correctly. O Muhammad! Say: enjoy your disbelief for a little while, for you are surely among the people of Hell. It says. Here,

when some hardship befalls man, turning to his Lord he implores Him. Then, when Allah grants him a blessing from Himself — 'some' — what do we say here? 'When Allah grants him a blessing from Himself, he forgets what he had implored before,' it says. Whereas not all of them forget. Some, when they reach land, fall into prostration. They prostrate to Allah. Now what do we say here? When Allah grants him a blessing from Himself, 'some' — in parentheses — some forget what they had implored before.

In order to lead astray from Allah's path, they set up partners to Him. The others are correct. O Muhammad, say: enjoy your disbelief for a little while, for you are surely among the people of Hell. Because Allah knows where His creatures will go.

Yes, okay.
