Al-Mumtahanah 1: Oh you believers! (If you set out on My path to struggle and earn My contentedness) don’t take as close friends the ones who are enemies towards Me and towards you by showing affection, or secretly harbouring friendship in your hearts for them. Whereas, They have denied the Truth that came to you. They expell the Messenger and yourselves, just because you believe in your Lord, Allah. I (Allah) know what you keep in secret and what you reveal. Those who do this (establish close friendship with the deniers) among you, are gone astray from the right path.

The misinterpretation

O you who believe! If you have come out to win my consent to fight in my way, do not make friends with those who are my enemies and your enemies, by showing love, by having a secret conversation. Yet they have denied the truth that has come to you. Because you believe in Allah, your Lord, they expel the Prophet and you from your homeland. I know best what you conceal and what you reveal. Whoever among you does this (takes them for friends) has strayed from the right path.

The right translation

Oh you believers!

Explanation

This is where this verse goes wrong: Do not befriend those who are my enemies and your enemies, showing them love and secret affection. Indeed, do not befriend those who are enemies to Allah and enemies to you, showing them love and harboring secret affection.

Our Lord is not an enemy to anyone. The verse that opens in this way characterizes our Lord and raises many questions in people's minds. In this case, our Lord is guiding people with His books, Prophets and scholars in order to enlighten the paths of the people and to guide them on the straight and narrow paths. Otherwise, the gathering of man and jinn cannot harm our Lord. The truth of the verse is as we have explained above: Do not befriend those who are enemies to Allah and enemies to you by showing love and secret affection for them. For they will turn you away from your path and whoever follows them, they are like them.

What is said in the video

We've come to the 60th surah. Surah Al-Mumtahanah: in its first verse there are mistakes. There is a mistake. O you who believe! If you have gone out to fight in My way, to win My pleasure, then those who are My enemies and your enemies too, by showing them love, by nurturing secret affection, do not take them as friends. Look what it says here. It makes one laugh. Man has fitted Allah, the verse, to his own head. You know, one gets upset at some point. What does it say? To fight: if you have gone out to fight in My way, to win My pleasure, My enemy as well. Allah an enemy. 'My enemy as well', it says.

So now, do you know what a person does? Between you and me, if I have done something to you or you to me, if you have done something bad, then I am your enemy too. But Allah is not an enemy. He is no one's enemy. Allah is no one's enemy. Allah's power is sufficient for everything. Man is the enemy of his own self. Of his own self. Just as you fit Allah into your own head and are an enemy to Ahmet and Mehmet, that Allah too, (?) like you, is an enemy to people, do not think that. Allah is no one's enemy. Every soul will be called to account for what it did. Compare this with judges. In this world, if criminals come before the judge, the criminals, so many criminals, is the judge their enemy?

A person is an enemy to his own self; according to its laws, the laws of the state, he comes before the judge, and the judge punishes him according to those laws. Allah too has a sharia law over people. So that people may live free, so that they are not in hardship, in the finest way He has made them live by His laws and protected them. But those who don't like His law made, not a civil law, but a law, and today's tyrants, tyrannies have risen from the grave. And people suffer oppression under these laws. The wrong becomes right, the right becomes wrong. It has become the plaything of judges.

Now there is a lot to be said here.

If man had acted according to Allah's law, the indivisibility of the state, the unity and togetherness of the nation, for the integrity of the homeland: those who open their mouths, who commit treason against the homeland, who try to block this state although it does beneficial work, such people Allah Almighty speaks of so well in Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 33. (?) these, (?) without mercy. Without mercy. Because those who betray the homeland and who, sir, oppose all the good works done for this state, and who, sir, sell the state off to foreign powers, to dark ambitions, for those who have joined them, for those who will shed the blood of so many (?) people living in this state, of course Allah has laid down His law so beautifully.

Kill these without mercy, it says. Or exile them, it says. Or cut off their hands and feet on opposite sides, it says. Look, let's see if you will be able to betray this homeland again! Siding with foreign powers, with dark ambitions, will you be able to plot intrigues against this homeland? With these things you call civil law, our state is still struggling with such people. Yes.

What was it? Civil law, they say. Which civil law?

Yes, and now here they make Allah an enemy to people. Who are you, to put Allah in your own head and, with people, bring Him down to the same level and make Him an enemy to people too? I'm reading the correct version of this. O you who believe! If you have gone out to fight in My way, or to win My pleasure, then those hostile to Allah and hostile to you too, by showing them love, by nurturing secret affection for them, do not take them as friends. Oh, how beautiful, beautiful. What does it say? If you have gone out to win My pleasure, it says. Hostile to Allah. Hostile to Allah. And those hostile to you too, by showing them love, by nurturing secret affection, do not take them as friends. I said it a moment ago too.

One does not become friends with a non-Muslim. Whereas they have denied the truth that came to you. Of course, even though Allah, our Lord, sent us the Quran, saying 'No, your book is no book' and turning their back on the Quran, sent to the worlds with mercy, as light, as radiance, a person who turns his back on the Quran, if he defies the worlds, if he defies the Owner of the worlds, (?) their word cannot be trusted at all either. Because you believe in Allah, your Lord, they drive out the Prophet and you from your homeland. Look how beautiful. Of course, didn't they drive them out of Mecca because they believed in Allah? I know best what you keep hidden and what you reveal. Because when Allah Almighty said to us 'I am your Lord', and in Surah Al-A'raf, verse 172, too: 'We made a covenant with those who would emerge from the offspring of the children of Adam', according to this, Allah Almighty, who writes our wishes and desires for ourselves as destiny and works out our aims for us as a script, knows the secrets of our hearts. Their secrets. That is why, until the Day of Judgement, there is not a single living being whose doings He does not know. Whoever among you does this, takes them as friends, has strayed from the right path, it says. Yes.
