An-Naba 30: We will only make you taste the punishment (return for your deeds).

The misinterpretation

Taste it, from now on we will only increase your torment.

The right translation

We will only make you taste the punishment (return for your deeds).

Explanation

This verse has been misinterpreted from the beginning. Our Lord does not increase anyone's torment. Our Lord says in the 7th and 8th verses of Surah al-Zilzal: "A miskal particle of good and a miskal particle of evil will be written down." Our Lord does not multiply anyone's sins; they are added up and punished in full.

What is said in the video

We've come to Surah Al-Mursalat. Let's see, is there a wrongly rendered verse in Surah Al-Mursalat?

We've come to Surah An-Naba. In Surah An-Naba, verse 30, there is a wrongly rendered place. 'Taste it; from now on We will only increase your punishment,' it says. Allah never holds a grudge, nor does He ever stray from justice. A grudge is the hostility that the selfish feelings harbour against someone when people cannot overpower each other. According to the verse that even if mankind and jinn, even if the worlds gathered, they could not harm Allah, holding a grudge does not befit Allah. So Allah does not increase punishment. Why? Because He is the Owner of justice. What does it say? Look: 'Today, without any injustice done to anyone, what each has earned will be given to him in full, as the return of his own two hands,' it says.

Now, if this world is a likeness and a shadow of the Hereafter...

A man stole. He was caught. What is his punishment? Three months in prison. For example. The man defrauded someone. What is the punishment for that? Six months. That was added to it too. The man killed someone. What is the punishment for that? 18 years. That was added to it too. Now is this increasing the punishment? Or is it the punishments being added up in return for what he did? Is it that he deserves it? That he deserves the punishment? So these poor people ascribe attributes to Allah Almighty; these... the sins a person has committed will be added up and given to him in full. And he says this is 'increasing'. Allah does not increase sins.

Allah adds up the sins, what people have done, and gives them their punishment in full.

Now, does a person who renders the verse like this ascribe attributes to Allah or not? Yes.

Look what it says: 'Taste it; from now on We will only increase your punishment,' it says. Whereas: 'From now on We will only make you taste your punishment in return for your crimes.' What does it say? Now someone, by his own reasoning, asks me a question like this:

'When the fire in Hell dies down, We will strengthen its fire again,' it says. And when the fire weakens, in return for the punishment, Allah Almighty, in return for his punishment, will strengthen the fire. He will not strengthen that fire for him beyond his punishment. He will not give a greater punishment. He will give it to him in return for his punishment. If only he knew the verses and could put them together, then he would render them very well. Yes.
