Tafsir
Allah (swt) declares in this verse that He is Tawwab, and that if they had believed and refrained from evil deeds, they would have been saved from their sins by their repentance and would have attained the mercy of Allah (swt) if they had turned back to the truth.
Allah, who does not deem the life of this world worthy of human beings, declares that He will bestow blessings on human beings with abundant mercy in the eternal life of the heavens. He informs people with every verse that the world will end one day and that the Hereafter is the true home of human beings.
In this respect, by earning a livelihood in the realm of property, by improving his world, by using his human talent, by offering good deeds to people, and by reforming his ego by competing in good deeds, he will attain the mercy of Allah with the rewards he has received in the sight of Allah. And if he knows Allah, the owner of all this creation, and realizes that he was created by Him, and performs his duty of servitude with faith in Him, then this person will have won both his world and the Hereafter.
Allah says to those of the People of the Book that if they had believed and avoided evil, Allah would have forgiven them their past sins. However, since every human being will live his/her own nature, He informs us about the situation of such people in His Ayat-i Kerime.
What is said in the video
under (?), they will be corrected. Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 65: If the People of the Book had believed and guarded against evil, surely He would have covered their past evils and admitted them to gardens abundant in blessings, says Allah Almighty. Now, look at the greatness of our Lord.
Look at how much our Lord loves people. Look at how abundant our Lord's pardon and forgiveness are.
Our Lord: one who spent his life in polytheism, that is, in idolatry, and did not recognize Allah, book, religion, faith or prophet. Was ungrateful for what Allah gave. Later he regretted it.
Later he regretted it. Oh, I spent my lifetime like this, but truly there is an Allah who created these worlds. What use has what I worshipped been to me until now? Oh, what use has the path I walked been to me? Would Allah ever create partners, associates for Himself, for His essence? Ever, these, (?), while their hands cannot reach anything, their tongues do not speak, they have no minds, their eyes do not see, their feet do not walk, our serving, while we serve them, what can we hope from them, saying this, if to his Lord he turned back, look what Allah Almighty says. If the People of the Book had believed and guarded against evil, surely their past evils We would have covered, forgiven them, and to gardens abundant in blessings admitted them, it says.
Can you imagine Allah Almighty's mercy here? Can you grasp how tender and merciful our Lord is to people, can you? If we think about the verse well.
Now it came to my mind, let me say it; not to speak ill of people, but never.
I am wondering whether I should say his name or not. Should I say his name or not? Because maybe one of his students listens to me and will be offended with us. But let him not be offended, I will say his name. That child of ours, and they too, let them not be offended with us; let them see and know the truth. On Samanyolu television this evening Fethullah Hodja is being given the floor. He speaks about brotherhood, about unity and togetherness. He says we should not do evil. Of course he has correct words. And for the evil ones: O Allah, these anyway, You do not forgive the evil ones, You do not pardon them.
These are evil anyway. Still, You forgive them. He makes up new words. (?) it will express unity, togetherness and brotherhood. But he makes blunders bigger than himself. Allah supposedly does not forgive those polytheists, those unbelievers. Still, You forgive. These show that the person has no knowledge of the Quran at all. With words he heard here and there, some words he adorned himself, to people they appear as starry words. But the verses, the verses weigh heavy on people. Because they tell the truth, say what is right. What is right. Yes. That is why, whoever you follow, follow. My advice to you is, always your mind use. Do not let anyone's word put a mortgage on your mind.
The only point to which you will let it be mortgaged is Allah's word. You must follow it like a satellite. The verses. If you do not mortgage your mind to these verses, you will meet disasters. That is why, if persons are telling of people bound by Allah's verses, again not to the person's words but to the verses by which he tells of Allah one will be mortgaged. He will mortgage his mind to that.
Ah, he will love the person. Because he made Allah known to me, made me love Him, separated truth and falsehood on a straight path, he will love that person, of course. Allah Almighty has him give guidance through his (?). Yes, he will love them too for their rights and due.
Why will he love? Not because he is in love with his dark brows and dark eyes. He will love for Allah. He will love because he tells of Allah. Yes.
So in the verse too: O People of the Book, if they had believed and guarded against evil, surely their past evils We would have covered and admitted them to gardens abundant in blessings, it says. The abundance of our Lord's pardon and forgiveness. Allah Almighty, with this verse, that there is repentance, that if they believe and guard against evil, the evils people did in the past counting toward the age of ignorance and being created deficient in mind, by their return to the truth, by repenting of their sins, (?), they will attain Allah's mercy, makes known, our Lord. Yes, this is His mercy, a sultan.
Allah, who does not deem the life of this world worthy of people, the life of the world He does not deem worthy of people. Because the world weighs light beside man. They say man (?), but in my view these worlds were created for people. For people. And He made man the vicegerent of the earth. And paradise and hell too were created for people. Although Allah Almighty created these worlds so that His essence would be known, apart from man and jinn, He programmed all beings like a robot. Those programmed know nothing but their duty according to their program.
People and jinn, whose wishes and desires are in their own hands, by their own deeds and actions earn reward and sin. And above all, Allah Almighty, who wills that His essence be known through people, by giving man a particle of His spirit, man the noblest of creation He made. He adorned man with the attributes of His essence. In this case the universe too was created for man. Allah Almighty, who created from the light of the Messenger of Allah, did He not from his light create this universe? And because of this, was the Messenger of Allah not ve mâ erselnâke illâ rahmeten li'l-âlemîn, was he not?
Then, by giving him of His spirit, did He not take the Messenger of Allah as a mirror to His essence? Yes.
So man is a very valuable, very precious, very honourable being. Yes, in this case Allah Almighty does not deem the worldly life He created worthy of man. If He deemed the worldly life worthy of man, in the world He would drown people in spoils. In spoils, He would let them live there, live, live, live. Because the human He loves most in the universe, with (?) suffering grief, groaning in torment, He does not want. In this case, although in the world, with such states and actions, people who come face to face, people who suffer from these, when they say this is a test from my Lord and trust in what comes from their Lord, my Lord opens to them the doors of the abode of eternal bliss.
So truly Allah Almighty does not deem man worthy of the world. But He says this: build up your world. Why? Because He created them very talented, showing the angels the works they do with talent He takes pride. One. Second, for His servants who know Allah to be strong, and for them, that is, for the Muslims: non-Muslims envying them and becoming Muslim, or fearing the Muslims, for the life stance of Islam, build up your world, He says. Your world. So
Allah Almighty, the world, Allah who does not deem its life worthy of people, that in the gardens of eternal life He will offer blessings to people with abundant mercy He makes known. Now, if He deemed the worldly life worthy of man: pay attention to the verse. If the People of the Book had believed and guarded against evil, that is, if in the world, knowing their Lord, they guarded against evil, fulfilled Allah's commands, surely their past evils He would have covered and admitted them to gardens abundant in blessings, it says. If He deemed the worldly life worthy of man, He would say We would have admitted them to abundant blessings in the worldly life.
He would say. But what does He say? In some of His verses: My Beloved, do not mind the (?). (?) let them busy themselves with worldly blessings, with a small blessing, He says. With a small blessing. A small blessing. The other is an abundant blessing. That is, an eternal blessing. How beautiful are our Lord's words, flawless. All of them confirming one another. They never contradict. If they contradict, that is from the person's lack of mind, from his not knowing. The words contradict one another. That is not Allah contradicting. It is man contradicting himself with the words he says by his own mind.
Yes.
That the world will one day end and the hereafter is people's true home Allah Almighty makes known to people with each of His verses. With every verse. To every person He shows a way. With every verse. And to them their Lord, that is, His essence, He reminds. Every verse. It shows both the way and His essence. If the People of the Book had, in faith, believed and guarded against evil. Who will believe? In Allah. In Allah, that is, if they had (?). Every verse is always like this. It both makes His essence known and shows people the way.
Yes.
In this respect, while securing his livelihood in the realm of property, by building up his world man, using the attribute of talent, offering good works to people and competing in good works, by reforming his nafs, by reforming his nafs, with the rewards he has earned in Allah's sight, Allah's mercy they attain. Yes.
(?) if man cannot reform his nafs, why are acts of worship done?
To earn Allah Almighty's good pleasure. On one side I earn His pleasure, on one side to what He says I (?), then I turn my back and to what my nafs says I (?).
Which one did I do? I did both. I did both. I did both what Allah said and what my nafs said. Well, what happened? I did what Allah said, I got reward. If I do what my nafs says, I got sin. Then the hadith of the Prophet appears. If the acts of worship you have done do not keep you from your evils, they are a burden to you, he says. I loaded that worship too as a burden. When I did what my nafs said, I took pleasure from it and the sin took away the reward. What happened? I had worshipped. Whereas worship was to keep us from evils. So from those evil paths our nafs shows us we will move away, and by Allah's command we will be (?).
Even if our nafs leads us to the passion of being head, and since our nafs will bring our faults out, that we will be ashamed, that we will be disgraced among people, even if they knew, even if we knew, even if we knew, we will still do what Allah says. What Allah says. Yes, that is why if man goes outside what Allah says, to every kind of calamity he is exposed. Every kind of abasement, lowliness and baseness he suffers. Those who do not do what Allah says.
With the rewards they earned in Allah's sight they attain Allah's mercy. And knowing Allah, the owner of these creatures, realizing that he too was created by that Allah, and then fulfilling with faith the duty of servanthood to Him, this person has won both his world and his hereafter.
So Allah Almighty, to those of the People of the Book: had they believed and guarded against evil, Allah would have forgiven them their past sins, He decrees. But since every person will live his own nature, the state of such people He makes known in His verse. That is, our Lord shows us a way, that Allah who created us, who wills no wrong to the worlds, our Lord will first show us the right paths. Whether with idols or without, whether religious or irreligious, He will show the right to the servants He created and tell the truth. Look how beautifully He explains here. After that it is left to people's own will.
That is, in that address Elestü bi-Rabbiküm, when they made the covenant with our Lord, their wishes and desires, their wills became destiny for them, and according to their destinies, with the characters our Lord gave them, those people, in this world, with their wishes and desires, with the events our Lord created according to their wishes and desires, those persons will perform deeds. And by those deeds they will earn reward and sin. And the verse, did you think you would die without proving what kind of person you are, will come true. Yes.
