Translation

Today, clean and good things have been made permissible for you. It is permissible for you to eat what the people of the Book (Jews and Christians) are eating and what you eat is permissible for them. Free women from the mu’min are permissible for you; free women from those who were given a book previously are also permissible for you under the condition that you give their marriage gift, are chaste, do not commit adultery and do not keep secret lovers. Those who don’t accept to believe (in Islam), their deeds have gone in vain. And they will also be in loss in the hereafter.

Tafsir

Allah (swt) ended Prophethood with the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Since neither a Prophet nor a Book will come again, He revealed the Holy Qur'an for the guidance of all people, without discriminating against the people who will come until the Day of Judgment. He has made clear to believers and non-believers what is lawful and what is forbidden. He also abolished some of the foods that were forbidden to the tribes before Islam with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In this respect, He has informed people that there is no religion other than the religion of Islam, and that all foods that are declared clean and lawful in Islam have been made clean and lawful for all people without discrimination. When the later tribes say that this is lawful and that is unlawful in our Book, it is their injustice against their own souls to distinguish between lawful and unlawful in food according to their own minds. It is transgressing Allah's prohibitions.

In the first sense, he states that he has lifted the prohibitions on certain foods that he had forbidden to the tribes before the religion of Islam with this Ayat-i Kerime (verse).

In the second sense, since He will no longer send any more Prophets, nor will He send any more Books, and since He has completed the religion of the people with the religion of Islam, by informing all people what is lawful and what is unlawful, He has made the food lawful for all people without discrimination and without injustice to any people on earth. This is the justice of Allah.

It is permissible for Muslims to marry believing women and women from among those who were given the Book before them and those from the People of the Book, provided that they are not polytheists or polytheists, and provided that they are chaste, do not keep secret friends, and do not commit adultery.

As for polytheists and polytheists, they are idolaters. If they come to faith and become Muslims, it is permissible to marry them too.

(Whoever refuses to believe in the Islamic rulings, his deeds have been in vain. He will be among the losers in the Hereafter). If people do not accept Islam, no matter how many good deeds they do, no matter how many inventions and sciences they invent and serve humanity, as long as they deny Allah and His Messenger, as long as they do not turn towards the truth with that knowledge, and as long as they die in that state, all the good deeds they have done on earth are wasted in the sight of Allah. They will have no share in the Hereafter. They are the losers there. In this state, they are destined for eternal hell.

What is said in the video

Surah Al-Ma'idah, the fifth verse: Today good and clean things are made lawful for you.

A definite command. Today good and clean things are made lawful for you. Because to some peoples Allah Almighty, because of the rebellions they committed, had made some lawful things forbidden to them. But since no prophet will come again, in the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), in the Prophet whom He sent as the Seal of the Prophets, until the Day of Judgement, so that people may find salvation, since no verse will come again either, He makes known to us His Sharia ruling in full clarity. What does He say? Today good and clean things are made lawful for you. Now it is complete, the last, He says. This command of Mine is the last.

It is valid until the Day of Judgement, He says. Until the Day of Judgement. The food of those who were given the Book, Jews, Christians and so on, is lawful to you, He says. Look, their food is lawful to you. You know some things had been made forbidden to them, for example the inner fat, well, some of the meat in some parts of the animal, to them the intestines had been made forbidden.

But for you, He says, all is lawful. Apart from the forbidden things He listed, all is lawful for you. Those forbidden things too, to protect the human body, so that we do not ruin our health, our Lord makes known to us as the things that are in our own favour. Apart from that, all is lawful for you, He says. Lawful. But do not make it forbidden. That is, as I explained a moment ago, do not take what Allah Almighty made lawful by forbidden ways and eat it. Or by getting mixed up in things like drink, gambling, fornication, do not make such earnings of yours, so to speak, through interest, through gambling, or clean sustenance, forbidden with drink and so on, He says.

That is, eat and drink these clean.

And your food is lawful to them, He says. Our food is lawful to them too. That is, He lifts their prohibitions too. Now is it understood? That the Quran is not something made up by a human. Because the Quran comes to the worlds. The Quran does not come to Muslims only, as some of those poor people say. The Prophet came to Muslims. The Prophet (peace be upon him), the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), (?) came to Muslims, the Quran too came to Muslims. It came to the worlds, to the worlds. Look, He lifts that from them too. What does He say? Today good and clean things are made lawful for you.

Today. Al-yawm, He says, al-yawm. Today everything is made lawful for you. Clean and lawful too, what you earn from them. So He does not (?) only the Muslim. All people, and here He already makes it known. Both to Muslims and to those Christians with the Book in their hands, even what they had made forbidden, your food too is lawful to them, He says. That is, He now removes their prohibitions too. So that they cannot say: You made a distinction, O Allah. You protected him, You protected the Muslim. And You made me do these as an injustice. So I got angry and did not worship You. So that they do not say this, whatever is lawful to the Muslim is lawful to him too.

Lawful to him too. But what is forbidden to the Muslim, the Muslim knows it is forbidden and does not eat it; but the unbeliever, the non-Muslim, that forbidden thing, as if a proof had come to him from Allah, lives it in pleasure as lawful. Yes. Up to here, let us read the verse once more: today good and clean things are made lawful for you; the food of those who were given the Book, Jews, Christians and so on, is lawful to you. And your food is lawful to them, He says. Because the prohibition was lifted from them. Free women among the believing women, and free women among those given the Book before you, provided you give them their dowries, being chaste, not fornicating and not taking secret lovers, are lawful to you, He says.

Let us read this verse once more. Free ones among the believing women and the believers, before free women among those given the Book before; what does this mean, free women among those given the Book before? That is, women who are currently of the People of the Book but not Muslim; what were they? Women currently given the Book, of the People of the Book but not Muslim, non-Muslim; with these women too, by giving them their dowries, one may marry; the verse is explicit. Of the believing women, is there a captive one? Listen well. Of the believing women, the free ones; is there a non-free one? Why, the believing women, aren't they all free?

Are we slaves? People, women; the reading order there is like that. Being a believer is rising to the fourth state of the nafs; here, if the believer addresses the believer, it addresses all Muslim women. It is not that if we are not believers, then the other Muslim women you will not give their dowry. It would mean it is given only to the believer. That is not so. Believing women; look, listen to this part well now. Free ones among the believing women, and free women among those given the Book before; now, is there a believer among the non-Muslims? (?) non-Muslim. Not Muslim either.

Of course. The free ones among them too. That is, not prisoners of war. Those become concubines. Or not slaves. Not ones you bought. Free women. That is, free. Their own will; with their own partial will, women who can make their own decision themselves. People. With these, provided you give their dowries, being chaste, not fornicating and not taking secret lovers, they are lawful to you, He says. She will be chaste. She will not take a secret lover. Aren't there such women? There are.

The other day there was news on television. The man, a grocer, needs to urinate, goes home. He catches her with her lover. He kills the man, throws him off the balcony. And he cuts up the woman with a knife, but the woman didn't die. But whether she has died by now or not, I don't know. Secret lovers. I know many people. The husband to work, the lover to the house.

There are also those who divorce the short way. The shortest way. Yes. In fact in our religion there is stoning. But according to the Swiss law they call the civil code, since it is governed by these laws, such notions of morality are increasingly corrupted. The notion of morality. Unbelievable. Laws are even being passed. Those who keep such secret lovers too are given some (?). (?). In this respect the religion of Islam is degenerating. Allah Almighty's Sharia ruling protects a person's honour, dignity, pride, chastity. Allah Almighty created man very honourable. I created man in the most beautiful form, He says.

So if Allah Almighty, who gave man a part of His spirit, made man the (?) and most honourable of the created, if He says honour and glory are with Allah, Allah Almighty does not consent to shamelessness, immorality, dishonour, filth. In this case He has set deterrent laws for those who act this way. Stoning. If two married people, that is, a married woman and a married man, commit fornication, stoning, He says. Stoning. Killing by stoning. Thereby both creating people honourable and protecting among people their honour and dignity, Allah Almighty did this. But see that people, if they run after the feelings of the nafs, without fearing Allah and His Messenger, deifying the whims of their own nafs, for a momentary pleasure, people who turn their backs on all of Allah's verses, today within Islam, are increasingly growing.

Their number has grown.

We tell people the truth. They have come to such a state that we see that, as if the man turns into pitch-black marble. At that moment. That is, a granite rock. The word you say does not get through. You see it. A coldness comes from the man. As if there were curtains in between. I see this, I mean. I cut the talk at once. I change the subject. I see that the man changes too. Alhamdulillah.

Should a Muslim be like this?

Pay attention. For years we have been explaining.

We explain the verses to you. Even if subconsciously, it settles in you. Today, wherever in the world a scholar speaks, you see their shortcomings. In this case, to the people of this site, bound by so much truth, pay attention, twenty-five, thirty people, thirty-five people, forty people, I don't know. (?) it does not suit them. Is there no one it suits? There is. There is, but those leading them say: that man is deviant, don't you listen to him. Well of course, the youngster is his student, he won't know better than his teacher.

Yes.

Yet the deviant one is the one leading that student himself. If he were turned to the truth, he would understand the word of truth and submit. Why do people kiss the hands of their elders? Why do they say kissing hands is forbidden? Why do they say hands are not to be kissed? Look, let me tell you plainly. It may weigh on you, but let it. What does He say? The hand of Allah is above the other hands.

So if a child kisses the hand of an elder and does not bow his neck, if he kisses that elder's hand and does not bow his neck, if he falls into pride, if he falls into pride, he will never bow to Allah Almighty. So by making that child kiss hands from a young age, by showing respect to elders, they accustom him to respect for Allah Almighty. Because our Lord is the likeness of people, the likeness. So those non-Muslims, out of their pride and arrogance, our Lord, who resembles them, who appears like a human, they could not accept our Lord as Lord.

Yes. God willing, if with the verses we are governed, with the verses, in this transient world, in this passing realm, without falling into pride and arrogance, without becoming the plaything of Satan, without, well, falling for the world's attractive deceptiveness, if we complete our life on our Lord's straight path and go to our Lord, then we attain our Lord's mercy. Otherwise our situation is hard.

Don't they listen at all? Those who come run away. It doesn't suit them. Because, as you always say, we are done for, they say, done for. Blessed one. Then if you understand that you are governed by falsehood, if you say we're done for, return to the truth, to the truth. Return to Allah. Am I telling anything other than Allah? Am I speaking ill of Allah to you? Am I describing Allah to you with the whims of the nafs? Am I telling you non-existent hadiths, words slanderously attributed to the Prophet, calling them hadith? Then learn the truth so you can save your skin. With that love of being the head, saying I lead these men, around yourself the people you make circle like moths, do not ruin them, and also tomorrow, just as those people circle around you, tomorrow you will circle around the fire like a moth.

Yes.

Whoever does not accept believing in the rulings of Islam, his deeds have gone to waste. There you go.

Are we telling anything outside the ruling of Islam? People never accept it. What we explain. It doesn't suit them. They cannot accept it.

Yes, right, they say. They say this. But they don't depart from what they know. Well, Hodja, will you lead them to the path? No. Our duty is to explain. We will explain. Allah Almighty calls no one to account from a generation He has not made it heard to. Our Lord makes it heard. He makes it heard. So people, instead of being governed by the truth, prefer being governed by falsehood. People, as I always say, under the guise of the religion of Islam, appearing Islamic, and appearing to be in a very high Islamic feeling, try to secure worldly gain. We see these everywhere we go.

If the Muslim is the brother of the Muslim, in a workplace there can be no 'your man, my man'.

If in a workplace there is 'your man, my man', there is injustice. In a workplace only the competent should be. The competent. A workplace without the competent is doomed to sink.

A state, he says, a state sinks if three elements come together. One, immorality reaching its peak in that state. Two, bribery entering state offices. Three, that state being left in the hands of incompetent people.

Yes. So we will avoid these three things. So that we may also live Islam. Let us apply the truth, the right, by telling it to people. Otherwise our situation is hard again.

The verse we read once more, we move to its translation, then to its commentary: today good and clean things are made lawful for you; the food of those given the Book, Jews, Christians and so on, is lawful to you, and your food is lawful to them; free ones among the believing women and, among those given the Book before, free women, provided you give them their dowries, being chaste, not fornicating and not taking secret lovers, are lawful to you. Whoever does not accept believing in the rulings of Islam, his deeds have gone to waste. And in the Hereafter he is among the losers. Yes.

Allah Almighty, with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), brought prophethood to an end. Since neither a prophet nor a book will come again, for people to come until the Day of Judgement, without distinction, He sent down the Quran for the guidance of all people. Because all the people He created are Allah's servants. Yes. Allah does not discriminate among His servants. (?).

Believing or not believing; to the believing or the unbelieving He has made known what is lawful and what is forbidden. Some foods He had forbidden to peoples before the religion of Islam too, with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) He has lifted.

In this respect, that for people there is no religion other than the religion of Islam, and that to all people the clean and lawful things made known to Islam, all foods, are made clean and lawful to people without distinction, He has made known, Allah Almighty. Yes. He created us. He sent us to the (?) world. He clothed us in flesh and bone. And He made us sustained by eating and drinking. So this beautiful, tremendous order He has set up, with a person's eating and drinking,

with buying, selling and trade, with the deeds a person does, he proves himself to Allah Almighty so beautifully. Yes.

In the foods of later peoples, when they say in our book this is lawful or this is forbidden, separating lawful and forbidden in foods according to their own minds is a wrong against their own selves.

It is overstepping Allah's limits.

Their books now are no longer in force. That is, they are gathered in the Quran. Why are their books no longer in force, gathered in the Quran? Because they, with their rabbis and priests, to suit their own interests, changed Allah's verses and added them to their books. Also, when, to kill Jesus, they shut him in the synagogue, the disciples, since they had memorised that Gospel of Jesus, the Gospel, scattered to the four corners of the world. Forty disciples. They wrote the Gospel they had memorised as a book. The Gospel written by forty disciples, forty (?), do not agree with one another. Which one is genuine? They don't agree.

Two of them, two of the disciples, in Göreme, in the Elmalı and Karanlık Church, tried to spread their religion. Who were they? However much the disciples wrote the Gospel and tried to spread their religion, these were the Muslims of that time. The Muslims of that time. Because they carried out Allah's commands. When Jesus said: who are my helpers for Allah? We are, O Jesus, they said. Forty people. And: O Jesus, tell our Lord to send down food for us from the sky, they say. Or, He says, do you not believe? No. So that our hearts may be at rest, they say. And Allah Almighty sends them food. So their books, since they don't agree with one another, Allah Almighty too, since there is to be no change in what He said, had He accepted the writings in their books, the fabrications people put in according to their own minds too He would have accepted. In this case, them, the Torah, the Psalms and the Gospel, by gathering them in the Quran, He (?).

The truth has come to you. The Remembrance has come. Until the Day of Judgement. I am its protector.

Not a single letter of it will be damaged or tampered with, He says. So if Allah Almighty has sent His book, and if you know Allah as Allah, what kind of whim of the nafs is this, that you with that whim of the nafs turn your back on the One who created you? No. I don't believe in Muhammad. Nor do I believe in the book You sent through him. You sent me this book before, didn't You? I am governed by this. You cannot say it's over now. Because this word you say has no sound proof. What will Allah Almighty say? Look, your priest put this in. And your rabbi put this in. We removed these. Did you know Me, as Lord, they will say.

I knew. Well, if you knew, in the last book I sent and in the last prophet I sent you should have believed too. So, however much you knew Me, you deified your own nafs and turned your back on Me, He says. I know. Yes. What does He say anyway? Whoever does not believe in the Sharia ruling Allah sent, that is, does not believe in the Truth, he, his deeds have gone to waste. Yes.

In the foods of later peoples, when they say in our book this is lawful or this is forbidden, separating lawful and forbidden in foods according to their own minds is a wrong against their own selves. It is overstepping Allah's limits. His saying, with the religion of Islam, within Allah's commands, that the food of Islam is lawful to the People of the Book and the food of the People of the Book is lawful to Islam, in the first meaning makes known that some foods He had forbidden to peoples before the religion of Islam, their prohibitions, with this verse He has lifted.

The second meaning, look, how? Its second meaning: since no prophet will come again and He will send no book, since with the religion of Islam He has perfected the religion of people, by making known to all people what is lawful and what is forbidden, without injustice to any person on earth, without distinction, the foods made lawful He has made lawful to all people. This is Allah's justice.

Now let us read the verse once more. Look, another meaning comes out of here. Let us read the verse once more.

The food of those given the Book, Jews, Christians and so on, is lawful to you, He says. Apart from those prohibitions it is lawful to you. And your food is lawful to them. And your food is lawful to them. Now if He had said: your food is lawful to them, their food is lawful to you, if He had said that, their (?), the books in their hands, some of them He would have confirmed. Allah Almighty. They eat pork too, they drink blood too. Those would have become lawful to us as well.

Those too. Now one must pay very close attention to the order of the verse here. The food of those given the Book, Jews, Christians and so on, is lawful to you. Before that He says: today good and clean things are made lawful for you. Within this, what are the good and clean things? Those Allah Almighty made known before, carrion, blood, pork, what is slaughtered other than in Allah's name, what is strangled, what beasts tear apart, these are forbidden to you, He says. Good and clean things are made lawful for you. The food of Christians and so on is lawful to you. Lawful to you. Because He had made known to them before what is forbidden.

Whatever is outside of that is lawful to you. And your food is lawful to them, He says. He makes our foods lawful to them too. If He had said your food is lawful to them, their food is lawful to you, that is, if He had said this the other way round, if this verse had been reversed, they eat pork, carrion, blood, and in our book it is written so, they say. (?). Allah Almighty opens no door of doubt here. He closes all doors of doubt. No doubts. At the very beginning He says: if clean things are lawful to you, clean. And if in the previous verse He says what is forbidden to them, if to earlier peoples too He makes known what He forbade, if their foods other than these are lawful, lawful, their foods are lawful to you, and your food, He says, is lawful to them.

Our foods are clear. Clear. All that was made forbidden to them, for example like inner fat, like intestines, some things, if He says they were made forbidden because of the rebellions they committed, with the Prophet these are lifted. Already with Jesus too they are lifted. I have come today, he says, to lift what was made forbidden to you, says Jesus. Yes.

In this case, clean and lawful things, so as to give life to all people with the Quran, within Allah's verses, the (?) that will benefit people's bodies in the best way, Allah Almighty makes known to us with His Sharia rulings. With His Sharia rulings.

With believing women and those given the Book before, of the People of the Book, of the People of the Book, provided they are not mushrik men or women, provided they are not mushrik men and women. The reason? You know, they say in the Quran that this verse was abrogated by that verse. God forbid, there is no abrogation. Those who say it was abrogated, they describe Allah in such a way, if only they knew. Allah Almighty says: do not marry a mushrik. On the other side He says: you may marry from the People of the Book. So this verse was abrogated by that verse, they say. Yet the mushrik is one thing, the People of the Book another.

Who is the mushrik? An idolater, an idolater. They call you, He says, to the fire, to the fire. Idolaters call you to the fire. Do not marry them, He says. Yes. Provided they are not mushrik men or women. Allah Almighty doesn't say anyway: you may marry free women outside the religion of Islam, He doesn't say that. He says: you may marry free women of the People of the Book. One must pay attention to the meanings. Here the words mushrik man and mushrik woman must be specified. Yes. Provided they are not, provided they are chaste, do not keep secret lovers and do not fornicate, marrying them by giving their dowries has been made lawful to Muslims.

So

it means, when people cannot understand the verses, according to their own minds they make ashure. I cooked a bean dish, he says. Or I cooked an eggplant dish. Yet when he says of that bean dish, you cooked it as an eggplant dish, by his own mind we think he is telling the truth. He has made ashure and doesn't realise it. He put his corn in, put his wheat in, put his own (?) in, put his figs in, put his grapes in, put his sugar in, put, put, put. Which is it? Ashure.

If He says mushriks, mushriks, mushriks, these are idolaters. If these too come to faith, if they become Muslim, marrying them too becomes permissible. Otherwise, because with these we passed over that mushrik man and mushrik woman, separately here this we put, we take. Who? Whoever does not accept believing in the Islamic rulings. Whoever does not accept believing in the Islamic rulings.

Only the non-Muslim?

Allah is such

an Allah, such a great Allah, so abundant in mercy a Sovereign that, had He not tied deeds to intention, we would hardly save our skins. We tell the truth, we tell what is right, we tell what the verses mean. The men (?), shout and yell. Well, if you resist this truth, with superstition and falsehood, will you not have been governed? What difference will there be between you and the non-Muslim, against the religion of Islam? But your intention is not to be an unbeliever; because you understood it that way, Allah, against your deeds, that is, against your intention, still accepts you as Muslim. Muslim.

He accepts you as Muslim, but look what (?) says about such people: if you put a black stone in water and boil it for forty years, still a stone is still a stone, he says, it won't soften; the behil is like this, he says, that is, the ignorant is like this, he says, the ignorant. Yes.

So whoever does not accept believing in the Islamic rulings, his deeds have gone to waste.

And in the Hereafter he is among the losers. If we compare Islam and the non-Muslim here, those who (?) against the Truth, who go against the verses and by their own minds, of iron, say if it isn't wood it's wood, wood, in ignorance, their own nafs deified, raising the flag on the path Satan shows, what a pity, their deeds, from their intention, that is, since their intention is being Muslim, they can save their skins. Yes. If people do not accept Islam, however many good deeds they do, let them do. However much they serve humanity, finding sciences with inventions, let them. As long as they deny Allah and His Messenger, and as long as with that knowledge that person does not turn to the Truth, if in that state he dies, all those deeds they did on earth are in Allah's sight gone to waste.

Someone asks me: Edison too? He died an unbeliever. Edison too? He found electricity. He brought about so much light. By Allah, not Edison, even if it were the Edison of Edison, if with this knowledge of Allah Almighty he could not find his Lord, the verse is explicit: if with that knowledge a person cannot find his Lord, all the good deeds he did in life, good deeds, have gone to waste, He says. And He gives an example. He is like a person winnowing his threshing in windy weather, He says. The straw to one side, the wheat to the other. May Allah have mercy on you. Yes.

In the Hereafter they have no share.

All their world, their paradise, is the world. Let them live in (?) if they want. Let them writhe in the world if they want. Let them live the utmost destitution if they want. Let them crawl through the world (?) if they want. Their paradise is here. In all this destitution, their paradise is here. The punishment of the Hereafter is not like this.

These are among the losers there. That is, they have neither a helper nor an intercessor, He says. In this state they are forever people of hell. Allah forbid. May Allah protect us.
