Oh you believers! Do not ask for the things that you will not like when they are explained to you. If you ask them while the Qur’an is sent down, they will be explained to you. Allah has forgiven them (so, don’t ask for them and cause burden over your shoulders). Allah is Ghafoor (Forgiving) and Haleem (Forbearing).

Tafsir

Sometimes when people ask questions that they don't like, when they find out the answer, it weighs heavily on them. Perhaps the questioner will not willingly keep his job in the direction indicated by the verse. In this respect, one should ask questions that are ambiguous, i.e. questions that arouse doubt, by gradually learning them. When he has the faith to overcome the question, it is useful to learn or ask it fully. They narrate the way this verse was revealed as follows.

In a narration, when the Prophet (PBUH) said that Allah has made Hajj obligatory on you, one of the Companions asked the Prophet (PBUH), "O Rasulallah! Hajj is obligatory every year and repeated his question three times. After the Prophet was silent for a while, the Prophet was informed of the situation, and the Prophet said, "If I had said yes, Hajj would have been obligatory on people every year, and if it were obligatory every year, you would not be able to afford it.

Allah (swt) says that these things should be explained to the people when the time comes so that their burden will be lightened. Allah has forgiven those who were asked in the past. Allah is very merciful and very forgiving. He is not hasty, for He knows what all beings will do. God, who knows the essence of everything, teaches people what they do not know in order to give them life. He shows the right path.

What is said in the video

Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 101: O you who believe! Do not ask about things which, if made clear, would not please you. Yes.

If you ask about them while the Quran is being sent down, they will be made clear to you. Allah has pardoned them. Don't ask and bring trouble on yourselves. Don't bring trouble on yourselves. Allah is very forgiving. He is not hasty. He is not hasty. According to one narration, when the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Allah has made the pilgrimage obligatory for you, one of the Companions asked the Prophet (peace be upon him): O Messenger of Allah, (?), he asked, and he repeated this question three times. Three times. After the Prophet had stayed silent for a while, to the Prophet (peace be upon him) the matter is made known.

And the Prophet: If I had (?) said yes, the pilgrimage would have become obligatory for people every year. If it were obligatory every year, you would not be able to manage it, he said.

So when you ask a question and the answer to the question is not given, do not insist. If the answer to that question is given, it will not please you, and it will also come to pass. It will come to pass, because the question he asks is affected by the events within the destiny he is living. Well, won't this happen even if I don't ask, if it is in my destiny? Even if you don't ask, it is passed over lightly, like a sadaqat al-fitr. Just as charity is a safety valve for you against coming calamities — a safety valve — it will come, it will still come, but it is passed over lightly for the sake of the charity you gave — questions are like that too.

Yes.

Sometimes, when people ask and get answers they don't like, when they learn the reply, it weighs heavily on them. It weighs heavily on them too. The one who asks the question will perhaps, unwillingly, in the direction the verse shows, not conduct his affair. A person asked the question. The one who answered him explained it in the light of the verses. But because the person does not have that quality, although he learns what is right, he will perhaps not do that thing the way the one giving the fatwa said. Despite learning the truth of the matter, he will knowingly compound the offence. Because he did not like the fatwa.

Therefore a person should ask his unclear — that is, doubt-raising — questions gradually, while learning. Gradually. While learning. When he has a faith that can bear the question, it is beneficial for him to learn it fully or to ask it. Fully. The manner of this verse's revelation is as I explained just now. Allah Almighty here makes known that, in these matters being made clear to people when their time comes, ease is given to people and their burdens are lightened. That their burdens are lightened. Why does our Lord send us the verses? To lighten our burden, our burden (?).

The verses lead people not to torment and suffering

but to joy and delight. To joy and delight.

Is there proof? There is. What is it? The verses of the religion of Islam leading man to joy and delight: You, from your faith, utter the testimony of faith, put your trust in Allah, and when you know that there is no god but Allah, that all the prophets are true, the Quran true, the books true, and resurrection in the hereafter true — realising our Lord as you see yourself and me, in your submission to Allah you attain a peace. With this peace, even if the world's torment and suffering, two millstones, (?) you between them, before Allah's love and affection that torment and suffering you would never taste.

Even if you taste it, its end turns into joy and delight. Into joy and delight. Peace is in Islam. What was it? Peace is in Islam. If this peace is like this, this is peace. If it is like this, it is the peace of Islam. If it is like this, Allah's verses are not torment and suffering, but joy and delight. Yes. In another verse Allah Almighty says: what you cannot bear, We do not load on your back, He says. So the load we bear — our joy and delight, our (?) bed — it is not. This is our own will. It is our creation as the noblest of creatures. Lekad halakne'l-insâne fî ahseni takvîm. It is man's creation in the most beautiful form.

And that in the universe no being has been created stronger and mightier than him. The proof: our Lord forms it in man from a part of His spirit. Therefore he is capable. Aren't there elephants stronger than man? Aren't there lions? There are. So how can man be the strongest in the world? Aren't you the vicegerent on earth, blessed one? Aren't you the vicegerent on earth? Weren't all beings placed under your command? Yes.

Allah Almighty here makes known that, in these matters being made clear to people when their time comes, ease is given to people and their burdens are lightened. Allah has pardoned what was asked in the past. It was the age of ignorance; they asked. Allah is very merciful and very forgiving. Since He knows what all beings will do, He is not hasty. For He has programmed this world until the Day of Judgement. Within this program, these people, His creatures, these beings in the universe, all created things — what they will do, He knows. Allah, who knows the essence of everything, (?) people, teaches them what they do not know, shows the straight path.

Yes.
