Al-Ma'idah 105: Oh you believers! Mind only yourselves. Those who went astray cannot harm you while you are on the right path. The return of all of you is to Allah. Then, Allah will tell you about the things you have done.

Translation

Oh you believers! Mind only yourselves. Those who went astray cannot harm you while you are on the right path. The return of all of you is to Allah. Then, Allah will tell you about the things you have done.

Tafsir

O you who believe! You who are obedient to Allah and His Messenger, admonish one another. Correct one another. If you do good and follow the right path, those who deviate cannot harm you. Everyone is responsible for his own soul and what he does. Believers are not responsible for the evil deeds of non-believers. Tomorrow, on the Day of Judgment, when they are called to account before Allah, the believers will not be held responsible for the evil deeds of those who do evil deeds. Therefore their evil deeds and their ways will not harm those who believe and obey Allah.

(The return of all of you is to Allah.) Do people who live in the realm of property think that they are immortal and irresponsible? (All souls will taste death.) According to the verse, every soul will taste death after fulfilling its lifespan. Our final return is to Allah. In the realm of property, people will be held accountable before Allah for what their two hands have done and earned. Their actual deeds will be shown to us like a video tape. We will be shown and informed by Allah of what we have done in this way.

What is said in the video

O you who believe! Look to yourselves. What does He say, look: look to yourselves. That is, can I be a person as my Lord says? Look to yourselves. Can I compete in prayer, in fasting, in zakat, in Hajj, in goodness? When you are on the right path, the one who strays cannot harm you. Because your path is the straight path. However much he strays, let him stray; with his own reason he sees that you have a right path, your Lord is with you, and through some feelings that will come into his heart he understands that you are right, and he refrains from the harm he would do to you. Your return, all of you, is to Allah.

Then He will inform you of what you did, He says. Allah Almighty will inform us of what we did, He says.

Let us read the verse once more. O you who believe! Look to yourselves. When you are on the right path, the one who strays cannot harm you. Your return, all of you, is to Allah. Then He will inform you of what you did. This verse supports the following verse. The verses always confirm one another anyway. When you are on the right path, the one who strays cannot harm you. This verse says Satan's temptation to you is (?), it says. To My servant who knows Me, Satan's temptation to you is (?). So the one who strays, since he is on Satan's path, cannot do that person any harm.

Osman Batur, my son, did you understand? If you understood what I said, you say "I understood."

In the commentary of the verse: O you who believe! Those who obey Allah and His Messenger! You, with warnings to one another, warn one another. Correct one another. If you are good and go on the right path, those who stray cannot harm you. If we have unity and togetherness, if we hold each other back from evil, tell each other our shortcomings, complete each other, we form a strength and power such that those who would harm us shy away from us. Yes.

Everyone is responsible for his own nafs and what he does, He says.

Yes. I saw Osman Batur's question down there. I had skipped it. I didn't see it, my child. That too, after this verse, after this verse, if Allah grants, I will open. When I skip like this — sometimes I skip.

Or rather, I don't see it. I'd be glad if you remind me. So that it doesn't occur to you that "he couldn't answer my question." Or so that no one says "it didn't suit him, he didn't explain." I am reminding you of this. If there are questions I skip, remind me.

If you are good and go on the right path, those who stray cannot harm you. Everyone is responsible for his own nafs and what he does. What does Allah Almighty say? What you earn is the return of your own two hands. Yes. Believers are not responsible for the evils that unbelievers commit. Because every nafs will be called to account for the deeds it has done. Tomorrow, on the Day of Gathering, when they are called to account by Allah, those who believe will not be held responsible for those who did evil. Yes. Therefore their evils, the paths they have taken, will do no harm to those who believe and obey Allah — they will not be able to.

Your return, all of you, is to Allah. Every nafs will taste death, and in the end your return is to Me. Do the people living in the visible world think they are immortal and not accountable? If we look at people, as if they will never die, greedy for the world, they run after satisfying their carnal feelings. In what they do, Allah does not come to their minds; they don't think whether what they do is good or bad; they don't bring to mind such things as: with these deeds I have done, when tomorrow (?) I am called to account, what answer will I give before my Lord? People who strive madly, without thinking of Allah and His Messenger, to fulfill the desires of their own nafs.

Yes. Do these think themselves immortal and not accountable in this world? According to the verse "Every nafs will taste death." Every nafs, having filled its lifespan, will taste death. In the end your return is to Allah. People, with what their two hands did and earned in the visible world, will give account before Allah. Account. The deeds they did will be shown to us like a video tape. In this way, what we did will be shown to us by Allah and we will be informed. So tomorrow, on that Day of Resurrection, regret will be of no use. And at the moment of death, when a person says to Allah Almighty, "Send me back once more, see how I will worship You," Allah Almighty says, "Even if We sent you back not once but several times more, you would do the same thing again." When at (?) the doors of repentance close and the world of the hereafter becomes visible to him, this person has set out on a journey of no return.

Before we set out on this journey of no return, before the doors of repentance close, before we set out on this journey, before we reach a day when regret is of no use, let us count the life we live on earth as a boon, turn to Allah Almighty, and strive to fulfill our duty of servanthood to Him, so that we may find life. Yes.
