Translation

Then, you were telling the mu’min “isn’t it enough for you that your Lord supports you with three thousand angels who were sent down?”

Tafsir

In the Battle of Badr, the Muslim troops became hesitant and worried in the face of the Meccan polytheists who were three times the number of the Islamic troops. Then, by the command of Allah (swt), the Prophet (s.a.w.) turned to his companions and said, "Is it not enough for Allah (swt) to reinforce you with three thousand angels? Thereupon the hearts of the Companions were strengthened. We understand from this verse that Allah (swt) is giving the good news that He is with the Islamic troops to give them a clear victory, to spread the religion of Islam and to eliminate some of the leaders of the polytheists. Absolute power and sovereignty belongs to Allah. He who is with Allah cannot be defeated. The true victory belongs to those who are with Allah.

What is said in the video

Surah Al Imran, verse 124: At that time you were saying to the believers: Is it not enough for you that your Lord reinforces you with three thousand angels sent down? — says the Prophet (peace be upon him). Yes, in this verse we have explained this. That is, we say it: at that time you were saying to the believers: That your Lord reinforces you with three thousand angels sent down — is that enough for you or not? Yes, it is enough. Not three thousand — even if it were one, even if He had sent just one, the being that Allah Almighty created and sent to help man — no one can overpower it. At Badr, in the battle, facing the Meccan polytheists, three times the size of the Islamic forces, the Muslim forces fall into hesitation and worry.

Upon this, by the command of Allah Almighty, the Prophet (peace be upon him) turns to his companions: Allah Almighty reinforcing you with three thousand angels — is that not sufficient for you? he says. Upon this the companions' hearts grow firm and gain strength. And after that, those forces — in the eyes of the Islamic forces, the enemy forces appear few. From that courage, or because our Lord showed it so. Then the enemy forces, in turn, see the Muslim forces as more numerous than themselves. Yes, from this verse we understand that Allah Almighty, by granting the Islamic forces a clear victory, in order to spread the religion of Islam and to remove certain men of influence who were the heads of the polytheists, gives the glad tidings that He is with the Islamic forces.

The heads of the polytheists, the Abu Jahls, the polytheist commanders, in this Battle of Badr were all made to croak. Let us not say 'killed'. They were made to croak. Now, there are certain words. Words are important.

When those people who are Muslims pass on to the hereafter, 'he died', they say. They call this death: he died. And those who hold various ideologies outside Islam, when they pass on to the hereafter, they say 'he croaked'.

The deaths of Islam and of the non-Muslim are not the same. For them one does not say 'he died'; one says 'he croaked'.

But later they softened this in the words; they say 'he died' for them too. They say 'it died' for animals too. Whereas animals croak too. That is, they say 'it croaked'. The words are different. Just as Allah Almighty calls the Muslim 'Muslim', and calls those outside the Muslims 'kafir', and calls idolaters 'mushrik' — that is, calls those who associate partners with Allah 'mushrik' — so He also makes a distinction in deaths. Muslims die. But those outside Islam — they die too, but their death is not called death; they say 'he croaked'.

As I said a moment ago, Allah Almighty, in order to complete the light of Islam, the last religion He sent, until the Day of Judgment, will of course set His religion firmly on its foundations, and will help the Islamic union, the Islamic forces. Absolute power and dominion belong to Allah. Whoever is with Allah is not defeated. True victory belongs to those who are with Allah. This is true victory.
