Indeed, if you show patience and fear Allah, if they were to march towards you this moment, your Lord will support you by five thousand marked angels.

Tafsir

The Battle of Badr took place in the second year of Hijrah, in the month of Ramadan. Badr was the first expedition of the Prophet. The total number of Islamic armies was three hundred and five. Sixty-four of them were from among the Muhajirin and the other two hundred and forty-one were from among the Ansar.

This is how it happened. A powerful caravan from the city of Makkah was sent to trade in Damascus under the patronage of Abu Sufyan. The purpose of this was to prepare forces against the Islamic troops with the income from trade. Allah (swt) informed Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) about this incident. He informed the Prophet that victory would be won over the Quraysh polytheists. The Prophet prepared an Islamic troop and went after the caravan. When he came to a place called Ashire, he could not find the caravan. In fact, Allah (swt) wants to fulfill the program that Allah (swt) had ordained in eternity in order to eradicate some of the polytheists, that is, to eliminate the oppressors by eliminating those who were the leaders of the polytheists. Therefore, the Prophet (SAW) did not meet the caravan and returned to Madinah.

When the Prophet heard that the same caravan was returning from Damascus, he left Medina and reached a place called Revha. In the meantime, a person who was aware of this incident came to Mecca and said, "O Meccans! When he said that the Muslims were going to hit the caravan returning from Damascus, the Meccans were oblivious and changed the caravan's route, and the notables of Mecca, including Abu Jahl, prepared a large force and set out to fight against the Muslims.

Our Prophet, upon hearing this, targeted the wells of Badr and arrived at Badr before the polytheists of Mecca. Allah (swt) increased the water in the dried up wells by making it rain, and the Islamic troops relieved their travel troubles and fatigue with the water from these wells. When enemy troops were seen on the horizon, these wells were blocked with stones so that the polytheists could not take advantage of them, and the Islamic troops took up their positions.

The polytheists, outnumbering the Islamic troops by three hundred to fifty, took up positions opposite the Muslims. Seeing this, the Muslims hesitated. Then the Prophet addressed his companions and said in the previous verse, "Would it not be sufficient for Allah to reinforce you with three thousand angels". Also in this verse, as a continuation of the Prophet's speech in the previous verse, he said that if the enemy troops march on you at this time, Allah will reinforce you with five thousand angels, each one of whom will have a betrothal, which made the Muslims happy. With this speech, the Muslims realized that victory would be theirs and that Allah had given them glad tidings before the battle, and the hearts of the Companions were filled with peace. Finally, they went to war. A very bloody battle took place. In this battle, first one thousand angelic beings came to help the Muslims, then two thousand angelic beings, then two thousand angelic beings, and then two thousand angelic beings came to help the Muslims, making the number of angelic beings to five thousand as stated in the verse. In this battle, Hazrat Hamza and Hazrat Ali rushed between the enemy troops, broke through the enemy ranks and galvanized the Islamic troops. Many of the notables of Mecca, especially Abu Jahl, were destroyed, causing them to break down and disperse. Thus, the Islamic troops achieved a great victory. Also, in this battle, the Prophet, by bending down and picking up stones in his palm (shahatil wujuh), meaning let their faces be black, and throwing these stones at the enemy ranks, one of the miracles of Allah (swt), hitting the enemies in the head and eyes, stunned the enemy troops.

Fourteen Muslims were martyred in the battle of Badr. Six of them were from the Muhajireen, six from the tribe of Hazraj and two from the tribe of Aws. Thirteen of them were buried at Badr. One of them died on the road two kilometers away. He was buried in the place where he passed away.

Seventy of the polytheists were slaughtered. Twenty-four of them were from the notables of the Quraysh. Seventy prisoners were also taken. Among them were the Prophet's uncle, Ibn Abbas Abdul Muttalib and his uncle Ukayl ibn Ubayl. The Prophet (PBUH) released these captives in exchange for a jizya. Those without money were released in exchange for teaching ten children to read and write.

Ibn Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib, the uncle of the Prophet, and Ukayl ibn Ubayy, his uncle, who were among the captives, later became Muslims. May Allah (swt) grant guidance to those who are not guided and His mercy to those who are guided.

What is said in the video

Surah Al Imran, verse 125, the noble verse: Yes: If you are patient and fear Allah, and they, that is, your enemies, come upon you right now, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand marked angels. Five thousand angels. Two thousand more besides the three thousand.

The Battle of Badr, in the second year of the Hijra. It took place in the month of Ramadan. The Hijra is the departure of the Prophet (peace be upon him) from Mecca the Honoured to Medina the Radiant. We call this the Hijra. The Islamic Hijra. Yes. The first campaign the Prophet made is the campaign of Badr. That is, he goes to his first battle there. Because in the second year of the Hijra he had only just come to Medina the Radiant. When Islam began to (?), the Meccan polytheists grow worried.

The idols we worship are slipping from our hands. Our sources of income are slipping from our hands. We will (?) the trail of our forefathers. We found our forefathers on this path. Well, no — those Meccan polytheists, who will not give up their own whims and desires, their own, well, ideologies, who are caught in the feelings of the nafs — those polytheists grow worried. To wipe out Islam they prepare a great force. And this coincides with the second year of the Messenger of Allah's emigration from Mecca the Honoured to Medina the Radiant and (?) Ramadan.

The total number of the Islamic armies is 305 people.

How many people were they? 305 people. In the Battle of Badr.

Of these, 64 were Muhajirun, and the other 241 were from the noble Ansar. Such was the Muslim army. Most were on foot, without horses. Of course, no horse, on foot, no sword, like that, you see. They had swords, but like that, you see — no battle dress. Thirty-nine martyrs lie at Badr, from the Ansar and from the Muhajirun. Thirty-nine people, and one person died on the way: forty people. Yes, if you go on Hajj, they don't let you go to Badr anyway; we found a chance and went there, to Badr. Again it was a day of Ramadan, at Badr; I had khatms to do; we did the khatms, the khatm prayers. Right behind that Badr (?), behind the (?) that is enclosed, we break our fast.

From the houses around it such meals were offered — those who saw us there.

People's eyes truly fill with tears. Food was sent (?) such an army. Well, if you don't take it, it's an insult to them; if you take it, (?) to places of sin. That is, such service to people there. So in the Battle of Badr the Muslims were 305 people, 305 people. Of these, 64 were Muhajirun, that is, those who emigrated from Mecca the Honoured to Medina the Radiant, those who came earlier — that is, let's not say Hijra, rather those who migrated are called Muhajirun. And the natives of Medina are called the Ansar.

The other 241 were from the noble Ansar. This event happens like this. A strong caravan from the city of Mecca, under the protection of Abu Sufyan, is sent to Damascus for trade.

Its purpose is the income gained from the trade: to prepare a force against the Islamic forces.

Allah Almighty informs Muhammad (peace be upon him) of this event. He informs the Prophet that victory will be won over this trade caravan or over the Quraysh polytheists — Allah Almighty does. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) gathers his companions and consults with them. Some of the companions say: O Messenger of Allah, let us strike the caravan. Some say: let us fight the Meccan polytheists. And Allah Almighty wishes the necks of the Meccan polytheists, of those leading men of theirs, to be struck. Allah Almighty does too. And the Messenger of Allah decides to strike the Meccan polytheists.

Yes.

The Prophet prepares an Islamic force and goes after the caravan. When he reaches the place called Ashira, he does not come upon the caravan. In fact, Allah Almighty — by cutting off the root of some of the polytheists, that is, by removing those who were the heads of the polytheists, in order to destroy the wrongdoers — the program Allah Almighty decreed in pre-eternity comes to pass. That is why He does not let him find it. For this reason the Prophet (peace be upon him) does not come upon the caravan; he returns to Medina the Radiant.

Hearing that the same caravan is returning from Damascus, the Prophet sets out from Medina the Radiant and reaches the place called Rehba. Meanwhile a man who learned of this event comes to Mecca the Honoured: O Meccans, O Quraysh, why are you standing still? The Muslims will strike the caravan returning from Damascus — when he says this, the Meccans send out a messenger to change the caravan's route, and they themselves, led by Abu Jahl, the foremost of the notables of Mecca, prepare a large force and set out to meet the Muslims.

One of those who incited them, according to a narration, is Satan. He appears at their head in human form and gives them this news. He does. Satan. One narration. The strength of the narration is as follows. Its strength.

When they come near Badr, this old man, in the state of a decrepit elder, Satan, at the front of the force, says: By Allah, today my eyes are very sharp; what I see you can never see. I am out of this, he says, and turns back.

Yes.

Hearing of this, the Prophet, aiming for the wells of Badr, reaches Badr before the Meccan polytheists; the dried-up wells — Allah Almighty sends rain and increases their water. With the water they draw from these wells, the Islamic forces relieve the toil and weariness of the road. When the enemy forces are seen (?), so that the polytheists cannot use the wells, these wells are closed with stones, and the Islamic forces take up their positions. Just below the place where they fought, let's say 50–60 metres further down, in a low place like a valley — did you see it too? Did Ahmet come with me?

There, to Badr. There are date palms there now. But the places of the wells cannot be made out. They have been closed. They cannot be made out, those places. And that road runs above it. They are on the garden side.

The polytheists, three times as many as the Islamic forces, take up positions facing the Muslims. Compared to them, the Muslims go through a moment of hesitation. Upon this, the Prophet, addressing his companions — When in the previous verse he says: Allah Almighty reinforcing you with three thousand angels — is that not sufficient for you? — And in this verse too, in the previous verse, as the continuation of the Prophet's words: if the enemy forces march on you right now, Allah will reinforce you with five thousand angels, each one marked — his saying this delights the Muslims.

If we go back to before that, the following narration is also given. A narration.

Seeing the great number of the enemy forces, the Prophet (peace be upon him) prays to Allah Almighty. O my Lord, here, he says, a handful of Muslims who will fight for Your sake, Muslims who will (?) the religion — will You destroy them before these polytheists, my Allah? he says. Yes. It is upon his prayer that Allah Almighty sends down these verses.

What does it say? And in this verse too, and in the previous verse, the Prophet (peace be upon him) — continuing from his words: if the enemy forces march on you right now, Allah will reinforce you with five thousand angels, each one marked — his saying this delights the Muslims. With these words, before the battle is joined, the Muslims understand that victory will be theirs, that Allah Almighty (?) glad tidings to them. And the companions' hearts fill with peace. At last they join battle; a very bloody battle takes place. In this battle, to help the Muslims, first a thousand noble angels, then two thousand noble angels, and after that two thousand noble angels come to the rescue, and so their number, as stated in the verse, completes five thousand. That is, a thousand, a thousand, a thousand — three thousand — and then two thousand: five thousand angels.

In this battle Hamza and Ali plunged into the enemy forces, broke through the enemy ranks and roused the Islamic forces. Many of the notables of Mecca, Abu Jahl first among them, were destroyed and their necks were struck, which led to their being routed and scattered. Thus the Islamic forces attained a great victory. Also in this battle the Prophet bent down to the ground, and the pebbles he took in his palm — Shahat al-wujuh, Shahat al- wujuh, meaning: may their faces be black — saying this, he threw these pebbles at the enemy ranks,

What did he say? Shahat al-wujuh, meaning: may those whose faces are black be so — saying this, he threw these pebbles at the enemy ranks, and as one of the miracles of Allah Almighty they struck the enemies on their heads and eyes, throwing the enemy forces into confusion. And in a verse Allah Almighty says: My Beloved, it was not you who threw them. We threw them, He says. In the verse. Yes. In the Battle of Badr fourteen Muslims were martyred, fourteen Muslims were martyred. Six of them were from the Muhajirun, six from the Khazraj tribe, and two from the Banu Aws tribe. Thirteen of them are buried at Badr.

And one died on the road two kilometres further on. He was buried where he died, it says. This is not 13, it is 33. Yes, their names are there. (?) here.

We'll mark this place and correct it.

Seventy of the polytheists were killed. 24 of these were from the notables of the Quraysh. In addition, seventy were taken captive. Among them were the Prophet's uncle Ibn Abbas Abdulmuttalib and his cousin Üka ibn Übey. The Prophet (peace be upon him) set these captives free in return for a jizya. Those without money — in return for teaching ten children reading, reading, writing — were set free. The Prophet's uncle Ibn Abbas, who was among the captives, Abdulmuttalib, and his cousin Ükbey bin Übey later became Muslims. May Allah Almighty grant first guidance to those who have not found guidance, and then His mercy to those who have found guidance.
