I only told them what You Commanded me; “Worship Allah who is my Lord and your Lord!” I was a witness over them while living among them, but after You took me up to Your presence, You were the Watcher over them. You are a Witness to all the things!
Tafsir
Hazrat Jesus addressed Allah (swt) and said, "I told them only what He commanded me, I said worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. All Prophets call people to Allah. Prophets do not call people to themselves. Prophets are messengers raised by Allah and sent to the realm of property to invite people to the existence and oneness of Allah.
(As long as I was among them, I was a controller over them), that is, I used to tell them that I am a human being like you, created by Allah, and that I am a messenger sent by Allah to you, and that I myself am mortal. You know better what they invented about me, that I am the son of Allah. And after my death, You are a watcher over them, and You know everything down to the last detail, and You know their transgressions and their transgressions.
You know all that is done, the deeds that are committed, what is in people's hearts and what they will and will not do. He will say, 'O Allah, you are the owner and master of your creation.
What is said in the video
Jesus continues the verse. Sorry, Allah forbid. Allah Almighty continues the verse. And Jesus presents the situation to Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty informs us of the situation Jesus presented to our Lord in this verse. What does it say? I told them only what You commanded me. Jesus is now saying this to our Lord, where? On the Day of Judgement. "Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord," I said. That is what Jesus says. As long as I was among them, I was a controller over them, he says. His saying controller: if he had been a controller here over them, he would not have let himself be caught and thrown into prison.
Being a controller means keeping a community under one's own rule. So what does he mean by saying he was a controller? I stood up against that falsehood, I was telling them that You are the one God, he says. With the knowledge You Yourself taught me, with the prophethood You gave me, I kept them under my control, that is, I tried to guide them by telling them the truth, he says.
As long as he was among them: I was a controller over them. When You took me in death, You alone became the watcher over them, he says. You have not died yet. Since these words take place in the hereafter, he too will taste death. You are the one who truly sees everything, he says. Jesus (peace be upon him).
Yes.
If you have questions after this verse, ask; if you have no questions, then the next lesson, our daughter Selin will write, God willing, that from Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 118, is where we will begin. She won't forget. She doesn't forget, she does her duty well.
Let us read the verse once more. Then let us move on to its meaning, its commentary. I told them only what You commanded me. "Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord," I said. As long as I was among them, I was a controller over them. When You took me in death, You alone became the watcher over them. What is that? The One who holds all the worlds under His rule. He encompasses and perceives all eyes, it says. But no eye can encompass and perceive Him. That is, it cannot see Him and say, this is my Lord. Because it is an unseen world. You are the one who truly sees everything, he says. Jesus, addressing Allah Almighty.
I told them only what You commanded me. What was it that Allah Almighty commanded? That there is no god but Allah. That by applying Allah's verses (?) to people, they would reach guidance; that to those who do what Allah says, Allah Almighty promised Paradise; that if they go outside what Allah says, if they associate partners with Allah, eternal punishment would be given to them too: this Allah Almighty made known to people through his prophethood. Yes. I told them only what You commanded me. That is, I told them these things. "My Lord and your Lord: worship Allah," I said. All prophets invite people to Allah.
To Allah. Allah Almighty says in His verse that no prophet invites people to himself. How does He know? From the characters He gave them. The first prophets created. Those created from the soul of the Prophet. And those who say, we are the first of Islam.
All prophets invite people to Allah. Prophets do not call people to themselves. Prophets are raised by Allah and, to invite people to Allah's existence and oneness, they are the envoys sent to the world of dominion. Envoy. As long as I was among them, I was a controller over them. That is, I too was a human being like you, created by Allah. I am an envoy Allah sent to you. So I would tell them that I myself am mortal too. You know better what they invented about me, saying he is the son of Allah. And after my death, with Your watching over them and Your knowing everything down to the finest detail, their misguidance and the (?) they committed, You know.
All that was done, the deeds committed, what passes through people's hearts, and what they will and will not be able to do, again You truly know. Because You are the owner and ruler of what You created, my Allah, he will say. Yes.
In the following verse, again Jesus (peace be upon him) again pleads with Allah Almighty. And Allah Almighty tells us what Jesus said through His verse.
