Tafsir
The Messiah, son of Mary, is but a Prophet. Allah sent many Prophets before him. Allah sends Prophets as human beings from among human beings so that people may be guided. In one of the verses He says, "Whatever you are, We will send you Prophets from your own kind". For example, angels also have Prophets. These are the four great angels. Gabriel, Michael, Azrael, Israfil. Allah has not sent a human Prophet to them. Except our Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.). Because Hazrat Muhammad (s.a.w.) was the one from whose light the universe came into existence and because he was (vema erselnake illa rahmetan lil alemin), he came as a Prophet to the whole universe, both human and jinn. That is why Allah sends Prophets to His creatures from their own kind, so that Allah may make Him better known to them. In this verse, Allah proves that there is no other God but Himself, and that the Messiah and his mother are human beings, that they eat food, and that they are in need of Allah.
When he says that many Messengers came and passed before Jesus, he means that all of them were human beings, created human beings, all of them tasted death. Only Allah is immortal. This proves that there is no God but Allah, and that Allah is immortal and free from the attributes of Godhood, such as immortality and freedom from eating and drinking, and that He does not need His creatures. However, Maryam and Jesus ate and drank water, emphasizing that they were human beings. By declaring that these people are sustained by eating and drinking, Allah is proving that there is no other God but Himself.
Allah (swt) informed people that Maryam was not a bad person, as people slander her, and that her giving birth to a child without a father was a miracle of Allah (swt), to prove that there is no other God but Allah (swt).
Allah (swt) says to the people of disbelief, "Look at how we explain the proofs to them and then look at how they turn away from the truth." The people's rebellion against Allah and their pursuit of their nafs prevent the people of disbelief from turning to Allah. These people have made the evil aspects of the nafs their friends. Despite the fact that reason has introduced them to the truth and the right, these are people who have turned away even from reason. In this respect, these people are in a state of anarchy with their own existence, as they are experiencing a state of inner unrest with themselves. In this respect, they cannot stay at ease. They will surely create a mischief and light a fire of calamity. Then they struggle with that calamity, destroying the world and the Hereafter, committing injustice against their own souls and leading themselves to destruction. It is the play of the ego and the devil, the evil side of the ego, that leads to eternal torment.
How they turn away from Allah after so much evidence. That is to say, it should not be in the nature of a person to rebel against Allah. If he has destined for himself the life he desires according to his covenant, even if you bring him a thousand proofs, they will not be able to see the truth.
What is said in the video
Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 75 – we have come to it.
The Messiah, son of Mary, is only a messenger.
Many messengers came and went before him.
His mother, too, is a very truthful woman.
Both of them used to eat food. So our Lord is free of any need for food; that is, both of them ate food. If he were a god, he would not eat. He would not need food. Yes. His mother, too, is a very truthful woman. Both of them used to eat food. Look how We explain the proofs to them, to people. Then look how they turn away from the truth. Although We prove the proofs to them, lay them open, look how they turn away from the truth.
How do they turn away? (?) – because, according to their own imaginings, they spoke to the Lord; because they denied Allah who created them, their wishes and desires, their aims, became their destiny, so within that world of destiny they are deaf and blind to their Lord's word. Yes.
The Messiah, son of Mary, is only a prophet. Allah sent many prophets before him too. For people to be guided, Allah sends, from among people, as humans, prophets – from among people He sends a human as prophet. Now, every thing we say – we say it, you know, alongside the verses; we don't want to open it up much; anyway, if it contradicted the verses, the verses we cite would refute each other. “What do you want?” we say. “We send you a prophet of your own kind,” says Allah Almighty. Since we are human, a human prophet. The angels also have prophets, from among the angels. Whatever you are, We send you prophets of your own kind.
That is how the verse is. Yes. We always presented the verses like this, in spoken language. But we are speaking. What do we say? Allah – people – what do we say? The Messiah, son of Mary, is only a prophet. Allah sent many prophets before him too. For people to be guided, Allah sends a prophet from among people, as a human – He sends one. In one verse: whatever you are, We send you prophets of your own kind, He says. For example, the angels too have prophets. These are the four great angels. Gabriel, Michael, Azrael, Israfil. These are the prophets of the angels. Yes. Allah Almighty did not send them a prophet from humans.
Except our Prophet, Muhammad. Because, with the universe coming into being from the light of Muhammad, and his being “ve mâ erselnâke illâ rahmeten li'l-âlemîn”, he came as a prophet to humans and jinn, to the whole universe. He is a prophet to their prophets too. They send prophets from among themselves, but as a mercy to the worlds, since the whole universe was created from him, he is their head and their prophet too.
In this respect, Allah sends prophets to His creatures from their own kind, so that they may make Allah known to them better. So in this verse, Allah Almighty, proving that there is no other god but Him, proves that the Messiah and his mother were human too, that they ate food, that they themselves needed Allah. Yes.
If these had been gods, they would not need Allah. They too would possess the art of creation and meet their own needs. His saying that many messengers came and went before Jesus – all of them were mortals. They were created humans. All of them tasted death. Only Allah is deathless. This, proving that there is no god but Allah, is – among the attributes of Allah's Godhood – immortality, being free of eating and drinking, and not needing His creatures in such ways. Whereas Mary and Jesus ate food and drank water. With these traits too, it is emphasized that they were human. So Allah, by making known that these people subsisted on food and drink, proves that besides Him there is no other god.
So what does it say here? O people! After so much proof, serving what reason do you associate spouses with Allah, associate partners? With what reason?
So your associating a spouse and partners with Allah is because of making your own self a god. Your associating partners with Allah is because, at first, in (?), you denied Allah. Those are the lying disbelievers, He says. Your denying Allah, associating partners with Allah, is because you expect the Lord of your own imagination. Yes. Those are the lying disbelievers.
In this case, what interfaith dialogue is there? They've gone on television. In Italy today they are celebrating interfaith dialogue. Of course he celebrates. The man is holding a festival. He is trying to prove that, against the true religion, he too has a religion. He needs proof of this. Because he is living out his own selfish desires. He sees that he is in disbelief and a swamp. Since his heart is restless and scattered, these people need someone to support them. And those who support him are like them. Allah protect us. Never attempt to support them. What does it say? Those who envy them are like them.
Those who support him are like them. Those who support. Doesn't Allah Almighty say their hearts are restless and scattered? Don't they themselves know they are in the swamp of disbelief? They know. So, that they are both in the swamp of disbelief, deifying their nafs in the finest way, securing their way of life, a need for an affirmation that would support his having a religion too – this he expresses. And whom does he find here? The holder of the true religion: Islam – he thinks that by its supporting that he too has a religion, he will find peace.
But in his own conscience he knows that he too has been deceived. In his own conscience. Yes.
His saying that many messengers came and went before Jesus – all of them were mortals. They were created humans. All of them tasted death; only Allah is deathless. This, proving that there is no god but Allah, is – among the attributes of Allah's Godhood – immortality, being free of eating and drinking, and not needing His creatures in such ways. Whereas Mary and Jesus ate food and drank water. With these traits too, it emphasizes that they were human. So Allah, by making known that these people subsisted on food and drink, proves that besides Him there is no other god. That Mary was not a bad person, as people slandered her, that by bearing a child without a father this was only a miracle of Allah – Allah Almighty's making this known to people is to prove that there is no other god but Him.
“His mother, too, is a very truthful woman” – how beautifully it says that. O people, never slander Mary. Don't think she did something evil. This is one of My miracles, a sign. Believe in it. Allah tried to prove His existence in every way. In every way. Yes. Allah Almighty, addressing people: look at these people of disbelief, how We explain the proofs to them. Then look how they turn away from the truth – His saying this: people's rebelling against Allah and running after their nafs prevents the people of disbelief from turning to Allah.
What does Allah Almighty say to people? Of course: look at these people of disbelief, how We explain the proofs to them, then look how they turn away from the truth – His saying this: people's rebelling against Allah and running after their nafs prevents the people of disbelief from turning to Allah. Those people who deify their nafs. Yes, those who in that way, in rebellion against Allah, turned from the covenant. They think, they cannot turn back. These people have taken the bad sides of the nafs as friends. We say this anyway. The bad sides – what are these of the nafs? These. The bad side of the nafs is not recognizing Allah; one's own grandeur, ego, pride, arrogance, (?), fame – making these one's motto, and being friends with Satan and with the world, getting along so; and those who in this way desire those who live like this, (?) them, showing them as stars in leading roles – this turned these people's, these people's heads, turned their heads, and in that state they go about the world drunk.
These people have taken the bad sides of the nafs as friends. Although reason makes the right and the truth known to them, these are people who have even shirked their own reason. even their reason.
In this respect, since these people live in a state of inner unrest with themselves too, they are in a state of anarchy with their own existence. Yes, that's why it says their hearts are scattered and restless – they are in a state of anarchy with themselves too.
In this respect these do not stay quiet. They surely stir up strife and light the fire of calamity. Then, struggling in that calamity, ruining their world and their hereafter, wronging their own selves, they drag themselves to destruction. How well we have explained these situations here. The games that one's nafs and Satan play on a person – with the bad side of a person's nafs – leave him facing an eternal punishment. That is, it makes them people of eternal Hell.
After so many proofs, how they turn away from Allah. What more is there left to say, says Allah Almighty. After so many proofs. So if in a person's fitrah the covenant he gave in rebellion against Allah (?). If, in proportion to that covenant, he had a (?) life written for himself as destiny, then bring him thousands of proofs – they are not ones who see the truth. Because they – Allah reform them; may He do so. Yes, reform.
