At-Tawbah 107: And there are some (among the hypocrites) who establish Masjid’s to cause harm (to the mu’min), to deny (the Truth), to plant division among the mu’min and to wait for the man who has declared war upon Allah and Allah’s Messenger; and they will take an oath, saying; “(By this) We did not intend anything but goodness!” But Allah bears witness that they certainly are liars.

Translation

And there are some (among the hypocrites) who establish Masjid’s to cause harm (to the mu’min), to deny (the Truth), to plant division among the mu’min and to wait for the man who has declared war upon Allah and Allah’s Messenger; and they will take an oath, saying; “(By this) We did not intend anything but goodness!” But Allah bears witness that they certainly are liars.

Tafsir

In Medina, before Islam, a man named Abu Amir had been a Christian priest and fought against the Messenger of Allah at Uhud and Hunayn, envying his Prophethood. When the polytheists were defeated, he gave up hope and fled to Damascus. From there he sent word to the hypocrites to arm yourselves as much as you can, get ready and build a sanctuary for me, I am going to the Kaiser of Rum, from where I will come with a large army and drive Muhammad and his companions out. So the hypocrites built a mosque to divide the congregation of the mosque in Quba, to sow discord among the believers, and to prepare a shrine for a priest. When the Messenger of Allah returned from the expedition to Tabuk, they invited him to pray in the mosque they had built. When the Messenger of Allah accepted the invitation and was preparing to leave, this verse was revealed.

Such hypocrites are the ones who want to divide the believers and weaken the bonds of Islam by sowing discord among them, to separate Islam from each other, and then to strengthen themselves against them and eliminate them.

The fact that these liars were so skilled in hypocrisy that they were able to deceive Islam with various tongues, and that the believers would believe them because they swore by the name of Allah, was a blow to those who wanted to remove the light of Allah, since Allah knew these situations and informed the believers of the calamities that would befall Islam beforehand.

In the mosque they built to wait for the man who had previously fought against Allah and His Messenger, they themselves fell into the trap they had set for themselves, and their own condition revealed that they were hypocrites, and also that the temple they built has no value compared to the mosques, and that prayer is not to be performed there. Therefore, prayers cannot be performed in churches and synagogues. Allah (swt) clearly states in the verse below that prayers cannot be performed in these places.

What is said in the video

Yes, Surah At-Tawbah, verse 107 — we have come to this verse. Among the hypocrites there are also those who, to harm the believers, to deny the truth, to sow division among the believers, and to wait for the man who had earlier fought against Allah and His Messenger, built a mosque, and who will surely swear: by this we wanted nothing but good. Yet Allah bears witness that they are surely liars, it says. Yes, these hypocrites build a mosque, and Allah Almighty tells the Prophet: do not pray in that mosque. Yes, and the reason is (?): before Islam, someone named Abu Amir had become a Christian priest and, out of envy of the Prophet's prophethood, at Uhud and Hunayn he had fought against him.

When the polytheists were defeated, this man lost hope and fled to Damascus. From there he sent word to the hypocrites: arm yourselves as much as you can, get ready, and build for me a place of worship. I am going to the Byzantine Caesar; from there I will come with a great army and drive out Muhammad and his companions. And the hypocrites, to split the congregation of the Quba Mosque, to sow discord among the believers and to prepare a place of worship for the said priest, a mosque they built. When the Prophet returned from the Tabuk campaign, to pray in the mosque they had built they invited him. While the Prophet accepted the invitation and was getting ready to go, this noble verse was revealed.

The state of such hypocrites, who want to divide the believers and, by sowing discord among them, the bond of Islam to weaken, to split Islam apart, and in the end, growing strong against them, to wipe them out — the state of these hypocrites Allah Almighty, bearing witness with His own essence, made known to His Prophet. They did not pray there. (?)

His presenting Himself as witness — these liars, people who, with all kinds of tongues, had grown so skilled in hypocrisy as to deceive Islam, by swearing in Allah's name would lead the believers to believe them; since Allah knew this, by informing the believers beforehand of the calamities that would befall Islam, it had been a blow to those who wanted to extinguish Allah's light.

With the traps they set in the mosque they had built to wait for the man who had earlier fought against Allah and His Messenger, just as they themselves fell into them, their own state as hypocrites came to light; also, that the place of worship they built has no value beside the mosques, that no prayer is to be performed there — He has made this known. In this respect, in churches and synagogues, prayer is not performed. That prayer is not to be performed in these places, in the verse below, clearly and plainly Allah Almighty makes known.
