But when Allah saves them, you see that they transgress unjustly. Oh mankind! Your transgression is only against yourselves, (by this) you only gain fading worldly benefits. At the end, your return is to Us. Then, We will inform you about what you have been doing.
Tafsir
When Allah (swt) removes calamities from people through His mercy, they continue their excesses as if they had not suffered them. The meaning of transgression here is to oppose Allah and His Messenger, to disregard Allah's laws, to push Allah's boundaries or to exceed them. Allah says to such people: "O mankind! (Your transgression is only against yourselves, and you only gain the benefits of this worldly life. To Us is your return in the end). In this verse, it is said that what you have done is against yourselves; when people disobey Allah's commandment, the masses of sins they take are written against themselves. By usurping people's wealth without saying halal or haram, by taking the temporary worldly blessings in exchange for the burden of sin, when the commandment finally comes, that is, when death comes, again (you will be returned to the first creator). (Then we will inform you of what you have been doing). As we explained in the previous verse, our deeds will be written down by the angelic beings on duty. Also, with the rays that we reflect, Allah (swt) will freeze these rays and show us our lives like a video tape. In this respect, we will be informed of our deeds without objection.
What is said in the video
Verse 23 of Surah Yunus — the verses always complete each other; we leave it a bit incomplete there because we will explain the verse after it. If we explain it, it will complete this verse too anyway. But when Allah saves them, you see that they again, unjustly, transgress.
And we stressed that our late mother was not one of these. That people were created from the group of the forgetful, and that it is forgotten.
O people! Your transgression is only against yourselves. Because if mankind and jinn gathered, they could not harm Allah. With it you only gain the benefit of the transient life of this world. In the end your return is to Us. Then We will inform you of what you used to do, it says. Yes.
When Allah Almighty, by His mercy, lifts calamities from people, as if people had not met these calamities, there are those who continue their transgressions. The meaning of transgression here is opposing Allah and His Messenger, disregarding Allah's laws, pushing Allah's limits or overstepping these limits.
So Allah, addressing such people: O people, your transgression is only against yourselves. Why? If mankind and jinn gathered, they could do Allah no harm. In this case, all humans, jinn and people — through the actual deeds they did, the rewards and sins they earned are the return of their own two hands. (?) On the Day of Judgment too, Allah Almighty, by the verse "What you earned is the return of your own two hands," will call us to account. On that day, it says, so that no one is wronged, what each earned, as the return of his own two hands, will be given to him in full, it says. Here, when He says "in full," I make an addition — not to Allah's verse, but because there is a shortcoming in the interpretation of the meanings; for Allah, Allah makes no shortcoming in His word.
But since we can't find a word to match that word, can't find one, it is written this way and passed over. This way. When it says "in full," rewards and sins in full, then Allah Almighty, from Himself, gives nothing at all. Yet to those who do good deeds He will give, from Himself, extra favors. So where is "in full" here?
Yes. Ah, where is "in full"? For the actual deeds of non-Muslims, the return will be given in full. So here a distinction must be made. In the verse. In this case those verses belong to Allah; we can't interpret them here. That is, we can't put an equivalent for it.
We only try to express it this way while explaining. Because Allah's word does not contradict itself. Because Allah Almighty says, on that day, We will bestow favors on them, He says. For example, for what we did, threefold, fivefold, tenfold, seventyfold, seven-hundredfold reward — is this now "in full"? In return for what I did. So we can't find the words. But we must make a distinction in these places. People need to learn this well. That is: O people, your transgression is only against yourselves. With it you only gain the benefit of the transient life of this world, it says. In the end your return is to Us.
Here it's general, everyone in general: then We will inform you of what you used to do, it says. What you used to do.
Here there's no "in full" from Allah. But in some verses there is. What does it say now? But when Allah saves them, you see that they again unjustly transgress. O people! Your transgression is only against yourselves. With it you only gain the benefit of the transient life of this world. In the end your return is to Us. Then We will inform you of what you used to do, it says. When Allah Almighty, by His mercy, lifts calamities from people, as if people had never met these calamities, they continue their transgressions. What is transgression? If the human soul has not reached perfection, even if the human soul is in the religion of Islam, it, as long as it acts with selfish impulses, commits transgression.
For example, in our religion alcohol is forbidden. If he drinks alcohol, he transgresses. As for interest — they will rise from their graves as if struck by jinn. These have declared war on Allah and His Messenger, it says.
Aren't there those who consume it? Plenty. Aren't there those who lend money at interest? Plenty.
The man has given the money. I am a witness to this. He has given the money. He has paid the interest on his money too. When interest on interest kicked in, his back was bent. He took his field from him, his hazelnut orchards he took, he repays the money he got, pays the interest too, card by card, but since the interest on the interest keeps running, he's in no position to pay anymore, so is he going to lose his field? This man, under the cloak of a Muslim, is among the people who will rise from their graves as if struck by jinn. May Allah protect us from such situations. If we are Muslims, if we are Muslims, if a Muslim is the brother of a Muslim, if it says "spread truth and justice on the earth," transgressions like this, in return for a little worldly benefit, are a person buying a life in hell.
A person's life seems to him as if it will never end. Years seem very long to a person. As if they will never come. Those far away, those years he saw very far away — behind him he sees them pass like cigarette smoke dispersing before his eyes, and yet what is to come seems like mountains on his back, the weight of Islam like mountains on his back, and that person, within his selfish feelings, from Islam, from our Lord's commands that it gives, tries to live abstaining. In this case he becomes a person who has deified his nafs, who has turned his back on his Lord's commands, and he is not even aware of it.
This is the game the nafs, Satan and the world play on a person.
Yes. Our text we read again, our commentary: When Allah Almighty, by His mercy, from people lifts the calamities, as if people had never met these calamities, they continue their transgressions.
Here the meaning of transgression is opposing Allah and His Messenger, treating Allah's laws as nothing, pushing Allah's limits or overstepping these limits.
So Allah to such people — the benefit of the transient life of this world — we skipped a line here, I think; I'm reading again. So Allah, addressing such people: O people, your transgression is only against yourselves.
We said earlier too that if mankind and jinn gathered, they could not harm Allah. With it you only gain the benefit of the transient life of this world. The transient world, a passing realm.
In the end your return is to Us, says Allah Almighty. Every soul will taste death, and your return is to Us, He says.
In the wording of this verse, its saying "what you do is against yourselves" means: the heaps of sin people incur by not listening to Allah's command are written against them.
Seizing people's property without regard for lawful or unlawful, temporary worldly blessings in return for a load of sin you take on, and in the end, when the command of the Truth comes, that is, when death comes, again you will be returned to the One who first created you. So again, your return is to Us, says Allah Almighty.
Then We will inform you of what you used to do, He says.
Let's explain these parts to you.
As I explained in earlier lessons too, we'll go through it briefly. That Allah Almighty freezes what human images reflected and, like a video, shows it to us. That the Kiraman Katibin write from both sides, give us our book and show us our state to us. Our bodies — the most important, this, as we said. We said we have three witnesses. That our bodies, in the presence of the spirit, before Allah Almighty, recount all these things we did.
So we won't escape even an atom's weight of what we did. We won't even be able to deny it.
As we explained in the previous verse, by the appointed noble angels what we did will have been written down. Also, with the rays we give off, Allah Almighty will freeze these rays of ours and show us our life like a videotape. Therefore what we did will be made known to us without objection.
