They said; “Unless you make a spring gush forth from the earth, we will never believe you!”

Tafsir

The prominent polytheists of Makkah gathered at the Baytullah and called the Prophet (SAW) to them. When the Prophet (PBUH) went to them to present the Truth to them and explained that Allah (swt) is one God and there is no other god but Him, the polytheists made some proposals to the Prophet (PBUH), claiming that their idols were insulted. First of all, they said, "We will never believe in you unless you dig a spring out of the ground. Since water was scarce in Makkah, they wanted a spring of water to gush out of the ground and bring that town to life with water.

If Allah (swt) were to fulfill this request of the polytheists, they would either say that he was a sorcerer or a great magician, as the ancients used to say. Therefore, while the Prophet (SAW) listened to them in silence, they made their second proposal.

What is said in the video

Surah Al-Isra, verse 90 — we have come to it. "You," they said, "unless you make a spring gush forth from the earth for us, we will never believe in you." They are saying this to the Prophet. Unless you make a spring gush forth from the earth, for us, from the earth. (?) — springs, oil is pouring out, oil. There are mountains of gold, mountains of gold; gold comes out. Yes. But they can't eat it themselves; to non-Muslims they feed it. Yes.

The leading polytheists of Mecca gathered at the House of Allah. They called the Prophet (peace be upon him) to them. When the Prophet (peace be upon him), in order to convey the truth to them, went to them and explained that Allah Almighty is one and that there is no god besides Him, the polytheists, claiming that their idols were being insulted, put forward to the Prophet (peace be upon him) some proposals. The first of these: you, they said, unless you bring forth a spring from the earth, we will never believe in you, they said. Since water was scarce in Mecca, they wanted water to gush from the earth as a spring and that town to be brought to life with water.

Even if Allah Almighty were to fulfil these demands of the polytheists, they would say, as the earlier ones said, either "a sorcerer" or "a great versifier". So while the Prophet (peace be upon him) silently listened to them, they made their second proposal. Now there is a lot of meaning here. Let's touch on the meaning a little. The Prophet used to show miracles. And He says that whatever Allah Almighty's custom was in the past, it is the same in the future. Where did the prophets show miracles? If they (?) with that miracle, Allah Almighty destroyed those peoples. Here too, had he shown them a miracle — in some places he does show them.

Had he shown a miracle the way they wanted — for the prophet showing them a miracle is one thing, and a miracle shown at the people's demand is another. For example, the people would say, as Salih's people said to him: a camel for us — just bring forth a camel out of a (?) rock. For example, he brought it out; when they did not believe, they slaughtered it, and He destroyed them. For example, Noah lived 950 years, and still "don't believe in this" is said to wives and children. Many people asked their prophets for miracles. For example, they asked for food from Jesus; although he showed a miracle, they did not believe.

He turned them into the form of swine. Allah Almighty turned them into the form of apes. Thus, when they ask their prophets for a miracle and the prophets show that miracle, as long as they do not believe in it, that town is destroyed. That is why the Prophet (peace be upon him), since as a mercy to the worlds he came, passes over it in silence here. (?) as a mercy for them. Because he pities them. Yes. Although they are idolaters, since he came as a mercy to the worlds, he still passes over what they say in silence.
