Translation

(Oh, My Messenger!) if your Lord had desired, surely, everyone on earth would have believed. So, will you (still) force them to believe?

Tafsir

If Allah (swt) had willed, there would not be a single non-Muslim on earth and they would all have believed. Allah (swt) created this universe with knowledge. All beings are programmed by Allah, including the angels of the eighteen thousand created worlds. There is no being that acts outside of its program. If we look at the creatures and plants today, they fulfill the duties for which they were created. And among these creatures, no creature can do anything outside of its duty. Except man, because Allah has given man a part of His Essence in the form of His spirit. He has left man free in his will by holding him accountable to His Essence. He endowed human beings with the blessings of reason and gave them talents. In this respect, in addition to the intellect that Allah (swt) has given to human beings, He has also given them very capable characters so that they can use their talents. Through these intellects and characters, people have the ability to learn.

Allah has created man as the pinnacle of the art of creation. The reason for this is that no creature can give life to another creature. Imagine a robot, without a program installed in that robot, it cannot do any work. It cannot recognize its owner who created it. This is not possible. It is only for Allah. He has proved this with man. He has given the will of man to himself, leaving him free to recognize his Lord, his creator. Emphasizing this point, Allah says, "If I had willed, I would have created you as a single nation and they would have willingly believed. Here, he declares that man will be held accountable for the decisions he will make due to his divinity and the fact that he is addressed to the Essence of Allah, and that the will is in the hands of man.

This is why people will be held accountable for their actions, receiving rewards and sins for their deeds.

(Then will you force people to believe?) O Messenger! They live by whatever covenant they have made. It is enough for you to remind them of Allah and His Messenger in the realm of the unseen. Since their traits will not change, you will have fulfilled your duty, and they will keep their covenant. In the end their return is to Us. And We will settle their accounts on the Day of Judgment and send them to their rightful places.

What is said in the video

Surah Yunus, verse 99, the noble verse:

My Messenger, if my Lord had willed, all who are on earth would surely have believed; they will surely believe. By His willing they will surely believe. The Creator, the One who programs, the One who programs, says: if We wished, We would have created you as one single community. Well then, what use would it have been for Allah Almighty to create me like this? Hodja, what does it mean? Well, what if we (?) programmed and served Him that way? one might think. There are the noble angels. they serve Him, programmed. Your creation as the noblest of creatures, your being a part from my Lord, your using your own will, your judging with your will, and within this judgement the reward and sin you earn through the deeds you do, or colouring the colour of life, taking its pleasure, living a colourful life with the joy of living — is being programmed better, or is living like this, by your own will, your own judgement, by the decisions you make, better?

So: Allah Almighty, with His art of creation, (?) — creating the human as a part of His Self. A part. In this case, for the people who cannot digest this either, I am obliged to show these verses. We created Adam, He says, from clay, then breathed into him Our spirit. Our spirit. Then to him We said: prostrate. And to the angels — look at the honour. In fact it was having them prostrate to His spirit. It was having them prostrate to a part of His Self. Look at the worth of the human. Of the human. And Allah Almighty, the Beloved of the Majestic One, (?) and Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) He took as a mirror to His Self, a mirror.

He gave him a part of Himself. My Beloved, to those who ask you about the spirit, say: it is a command of my Lord. If it is a command of your Lord, and He gave the human a part of His command, and created the human honoured above the worlds, it is not the honour of that human but the honour of the spirit in him.

But if that part in him is ungrateful and turns its back on its Creator, then of them Allah Almighty says: they are like the four-legged ones roaming the earth, even more astray in their course. Because they are ungrateful.

Yes. In this case, with the worth Allah Almighty gave the human, by giving a part of His Self — it is not His commanding the part that is in His Self. Pay attention. Had He commanded the part in His Self, He would be commanding Himself. Himself. He already commands Himself. He Himself commands Himself. How does He command, Hodja? How does He command? We sent Our command, He says. We sent Our command. To whom?

To Mary. It appeared in the form of a perfect human, He says. How clear it is.

I sent My command. From His command, a body — His Self, wherever He wills, in whatever way He wills — He can (?). In whatever way. With whatever attributes, forms, you can gather in His Self. One, with the same feelings, the same frequencies, the same communications, wherever He wills, in whatever way, His rule, His validity, He maintains. These are deep matters. A matter not everyone can digest.

Very deep verses, you see.

So, only this much. I do not want to go further. My Messenger, if your Lord had willed, all who are on earth would surely have believed. In another verse He says: if We had willed, from the sky with the clouds, from the clouds, He says, (?) with the noble angels, We would have made you prostrate, He says. Yes. So if your Lord had willed, surely we would all have been one single community. But Allah Almighty left this part He separated from His Self — so that they, by their own wishes and desires, would prove what kind of human they are — as addressees of His Self, (?), He left people in their will free.

Like the children of a father. Say a father has a thousand, ten thousand, a hundred thousand children. An example — multiply it to as many as there are people.

Those who obey him, those who do not.

This human — from his own part, his own being, his own loins — the beings he multiplied, people. Of course it is a comparison, we are giving an example. Allah Almighty multiplies from His own spirit. Not by pairing like humans, of course. He multiplies from His own spirit; that is how He made people. Billions of people — from the part He gave, the part He gave to the Seal of the Prophets, Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) — He created billions of people.

Billions of people.

Since Allah Almighty is the universal spirit, (?) (?) remains in Him. In His being He gathers it. I have a piece of writing further on. Perhaps you will come across it. He has lost infinity in Himself, embraced infinity. There is no infinity in Him. Infinity is lost in Allah Almighty.

In that case, whatever has been cast, from the atom to the sphere, if this infinity too is lost in Him, think of the rule of His whole over these worlds. That is: powerful over all things.

The knowledge of all things, the All-Knowing.

Yes.

My Messenger, if your Lord had willed, all who are on earth would surely have believed.

Will you then compel people to believe, He says. To believe. Will you compel them? What does He remind the Prophet (peace be upon him) of? Of Elestü bi Rabbiküm.

Yes. And if there We gave everyone their wish and desire as their destiny — according to the verse 'if We do not will, you cannot will' — if your Lord had willed, surely all on earth would have believed. According to the noble verse. Since He says: from Us too a word came to pass, Paradise, Hell. Since He says: with Us is a book, preserved in the Preserved Tablet; after that neither an addition nor a reduction is made to it. He says: will you compel them to step outside their own destiny, He says. How beautiful these things are. It reminds him of that.

Yes.

In the tafsir, in a way people will understand, we wrote — so that within their capacity, yet at a deeper level, people might each give it meaning by their own minds and draw lessons for themselves — what did we write? (?) If Allah Almighty had willed, not a single non-Muslim would remain on earth, they would all have believed together. Because He is the Creator, He is the Programmer.

Allah Almighty created this universe with knowledge. All beings, the eighteen thousand worlds created, including the angels, were programmed by Allah. There is no being that acts outside its own program. Today, if we look at the creatures and the plants, they fulfil the duties they were created for. Among these created things, no created being can act outside its own duty. Except the human. Now there is a distinction. Except the human. Because Allah gave the human from His spirit, as a part of His Self. Holding the human as an addressee of His own Self, holding the human as an addressee of His Self, He left him free in his will.

Equipping people with the blessing of reason, He gave them abilities. For this reason, so that people can use their abilities, Allah Almighty, beside the reason He gave people, also gave them very capable characters. Through this reason and these characters people have the ability to learn. So Allah created the human as the summit of His art of creation — He created him. The reason for this is that no created being can give life to another created being. Think of a robot; without loading any program into that robot, this robot cannot do any work. It cannot know the owner who brought it into being.

This is not possible. It belongs to Allah alone. He proved this with the human. He gave the human his own will, and in knowing or not knowing his Lord, his Creator, left him free. Emphasising this very point, Allah says: I, He says, if I had wished, I would have created you as one single community, and they would have believed, willingly or not, He declares. So, with the human's (?), being held as an addressee of Allah's Self, and the partial will being in the human's (?), He declares that he will be called to account for the decisions he makes. Because of this, people, earning reward and sin through the deeds they commit, will be called to account for what they did.

Isn't the plain version nicer?

At the capacity people can understand — yes, the other side (?) — because of this, people, through the deeds they commit, earning sin, will be called to account for what they did. Will you then compel people to believe? O my Beloved! Whatever covenant these people made, they live by that covenant. As the world of the unseen, it is enough for you to remind them of Allah and His Messenger. Since the traits in them will not change, you will have fulfilled your duty. And they act according to the covenant they gave. In the end their return is to Us. And We will see their (?) accounts and send them to the place they deserve, He says. Yes.
