Translation

Allah has not begotten children. There is no other deity with Allah. Otherwise, each deity would control its own creation and one of them would overpower the other. Allah is far from what they attribute.

Tafsir

Those who have no knowledge of Allah have slandered Allah. But Allah is One. There is no God besides Him. He proves this with His Verses. In His Verses (Allah has not adopted a son. Nor is there any Deity with Him. Otherwise, each God would have guided and governed His creation and one of them would have prevailed over the other. Allah is Exalted from what they (the disbelievers) ascribe to Him. If Allah had adopted children, He would have ceased to be perfect and complete, and would have been characterized. It would have been revealed that He also needs some things. However, Allah does not need anything. He is exalted above all things.

If there had been any other God besides Allah, surely discord and jealousy would have arisen between them, and they would have taken what they had created and would have turned against each other. Surely one would triumph over the other and there would still be only one God.

Those who have no knowledge of Allah, those who disbelieved in Allah at Kalu Bela, those who dictated their covenant to themselves as destiny, slander Allah in the realm of property with the same disbelief. Had they known Allah properly, they would not have slandered Allah, but would have avoided His commands and prohibitions, and would not have transgressed Allah's commandments. So these are liars and ignorant people with seeds of hatred and discord in their hearts.

Verse 91 of Surah Al-Mu'minun:

Allah has not taken a child. They call Jesus the son of Allah, don't they – Allah protect us – they call Ezra the son of Allah, don't they, and they call Mary His wife, don't they – Allah is free of all deficient attributes. He exists only through His own essence. Surah Al-Ikhlas tells us this so beautifully. He is ahad in His essence, one. Yet in Arabic wahid also means one. There are differences between wahid and ahad. One. Like what? When it says wahid, one (?). Like the (?), there are many (?). One single (?). But when it says ahad, since this (?) has no likeness, no spouse and no partner, it is one.

That is ahad: Allah. He is one in His essence.

He is As-Samad, (?). He has neither wife nor child. He has neither wife nor child. In this case, if Allah Almighty exists through His essence – and there are many verses that prove this. For example, the name Hu, in the sense of the One who exists only by Himself. Hu: if a being that exists by itself brought itself into existence, it has no need of anything. This is the first. There is the attribute Hayy. What is it? The attribute Hayy: He Himself is living and gives life to all the worlds, but in no way does He need those to whom He gives life. In this case, if Allah Almighty, existing with such attributes, does not need anything, He can have neither wife nor child.

But the non-Muslim, at the root, because he denied Allah Almighty,

and because he waits for the Lord of his own imagination, expects a Lord with wife and children. With wife and children. In this way he gives Allah Almighty attributes. What does He say? Allah has not taken a child. Nor is there any god with Him. That is, there is no god together with Allah. Otherwise each god would direct and manage what it created, and certainly one of them would overpower the other. Allah is free of what they, the deniers, ascribe to Him.

Surely, if there were two gods, one would take what he created and the other what he created, and they would clash. Since there is one god,

that Rabb too – I am using the word Rabb with you. Why I use the word Rabb, (?): Rabb means Creator. Rabbü'l-âlemîn: the Lord of the worlds, in the sense of Creator of the worlds. So I use the word Rabb so that it is more weighty in (?). When our Lord created our souls in the realm of Lahut,

when He said, I am your Lord,

there they were divided into three groups. What does it say in the seventh verse of Surah Al-Waqi'ah? Ve kuntum ezvâcen selâseh: all the pairs, coming from one another, are three classes, it says, three groups. Ve eshâbü'l-meymeneti mâ eshâbü'l-meymeneh: O people of the right, glad tidings to you –

where? In the realm of Lahut, at the address Elestü bi Rabbiküm, the states of the souls facing Him, their separation. Then: ve eshâbü'l-meş'emeti mâ eshâbü'l-meş'emeh. The deniers, (?), those who separated, the people of the left. And the third: ves-sâbikûne's-sâbikûn ulâike'l-mukarrabûn fî cennâti'n-naîm. The group of the foremost. The group of saints, prophets, martyrs, shuhada. Now, in this situation, that against our Lord's word in that realm of Lahut, I created you, they were three classes – we see this in the earthly world too. How do we see it? The Muslims, right? The Muslims, then the group of prophets, saints, martyrs, shuhada – this group we see too; the non-Muslim sees it too, (?) in many places, Allah Almighty's unseen martyrs, their taking captives, taking non-Muslims captive, at Badr, the angels helping the Prophet, 3000 angels. In this situation we also see the deniers.

They turned their backs on Allah who created them. Man who has become an enemy of the religion of Islam. Why does he become an enemy of the religion of Islam? Because he is an enemy of Allah.

Now, in the previous verse, what does it say? Indeed, We brought them the truth. But they are truly liars. Liars about what, does He say? People who remain in darkness because they deny the truth. In darkness. In this case, Allah Almighty, in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 17 – they have explained it wrongly, so let us read the correct one. They, those hypocrites, He says, are like a fire burning on a dark night. What is the dark night? We came into the world, not even seeing in front of us, unable to manage ourselves. But Allah Almighty, with His verses, His prophets, His scholars, guided us. He illuminated the worlds with the Quran.

Those who turn their backs on that (?) fire leave themselves in darkness. Yes. So in this case such people have lost their personality and individual selfhood; although they see themselves in a certain place, they think that actually a rotten weed is more valuable than him. If only he knew. At least the rotten weed will do its duty. It will rot away. But he will remain (?) to eternal punishment in the Hereafter. Yes.

Those who have no knowledge of Allah invented lies about Allah. The polytheists said the angels are Allah's daughters.

The Christians said Jesus is the son of Allah.

The Jews likewise, saying Mary – Jesus is the son of Allah and she is His wife – said Allah is three.

Yet Allah is one in His essence; from what they attribute to Him He is far removed. Those who have no knowledge of Allah invented lies about Allah. Yet Allah is one. There is no god other than His essence. He proves this with His verses. In His verses: Allah has not taken a child. Nor is there any god with Him. Otherwise every god would direct and manage what it created; certainly one of them would overpower the other. Allah is free of what they, the deniers, ascribe to Him. He declares. Had Allah taken a child, Allah would cease to be perfect and complete and would be given attributes. It would come out that He too needs some things.

Yet Allah needs nothing; He is free of everything. Indeed, if He had a wife, if He had a child, He too would have needs, would need some things. In that case we would be ascribing many things to Allah Almighty. But that there is no such thing, first of all that He has neither wife nor child, we prove to ourselves with His verses. Had there been another god besides Allah, surely discord and jealousy would begin between them. They would take what they created and clash with each other. Surely one would overpower the other, and again a single god would remain. So those who have no knowledge of Allah, who denied Allah at Kâlû belâ, who had their covenant written as their destiny, in the world of possession too, with the same denial, invent lies against Allah.

Had they known Allah as is due, far from inventing lies against Allah, they would heed His commands and prohibitions and would not step outside Allah's command. So these are people with the seed of hypocrisy in their hearts, lying and ignorant people. Ignorant. Yes.
