Aleef. Laam. Meem.

Tafsir

These letters at the beginning of suras are called alhûrufu'l mukatta letters. Such letters whose meaning is not clear are also called mutashabih verses. Such letters are a Verse from the Surahs in which they are found. Only Allah knows their meaning. No one can give them a meaning. Their secret is reserved for Allah. Those who have sedition in their hearts follow such verses to increase their disbelief.

What is said in the video

We stopped at the first verse of the surah, or rather we have arrived there. We did not stop there, we arrived there.

In the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty, at the beginning of some verses, verses that we call muqatta'a verses, or al-huruf verses, verses we call al-huruf verses, known as the disjointed letters, appear. They exist. For example Ta Ha, Ya Sin, and at the beginning of Surah Al Imran there is Alif, Lam, Mim. Alif, Lam, Mim. Some people who do not know their place try to give these a meaning. Such letters are not given a meaning. They are not. Why are they not? Why are they not?

We will come to that. Before we do, let us make an introduction. Let us read that verse. Surah Al Imran, verse 7. It is He who sent down the Book to the unlettered Messenger. Allah, who sent down the firm Book without any alteration, it is He. The Book.

Some of its verses are clear and definite, as the foundations of the Quran. What are these? The rulings of the Sharia. And some verses are ambiguous. The al-huruf verses, the verses we call muqatta'a, are the ambiguous verses. Those with doubts in their hearts, to stir up strife, give them meaning by their own reason and follow the interpretation of the ambiguous verses. Allah Almighty says this. I am not saying it. Yes. Oh, Alif does this. Oh, Mim does that. Oh, Lam does this. Oh, it has three meanings. Oh, it has five meanings. This is going astray. Ignorance. Those who go into kufr by interpreting.

Whereas only Allah knows the interpretation of the ambiguous, it says. Allah Allah. How beautifully it says it. Only Allah knows the interpretation of the ambiguous verses. Of course. Alif, Lam, Mim, what is this? Three letters. These, put side by side, are a verse. Well, perhaps these form a secret of creation. We cannot know, can we. We cannot know. The meanings in them. They are a secret. Secrets belonging to Allah Himself, belonging to His essence. What He meant, what He intended, we cannot know. Why can we not know? Because the word of Allah Almighty rests on truths. Since it rests on truths, what does alif mean?

What meanings are in it? What does lam mean? What meanings are there? And what does mim mean? What meanings are there? And when they come together, what do they form? For example, there is hydrogen, there is oxygen. Two hydrogen and one oxygen form water. There you go. Like that. these are not given a meaning. What does it say? Whereas only Allah knows the interpretation of the ambiguous. As for those shaped by Our knowledge - it said ve'r-râsihûn - those who have entered within 'ilm al-yaqin, as for those shaped by Our knowledge,

this part carries meaning. We will explain it; let us make a preface before explaining.

Here Allah Almighty means this. As for those shaped by Our knowledge: it means the unlettered person. It means the person whom Allah Almighty Himself has raised.

The person Allah Almighty has raised, no created being can raise.

What? Even if he lived a thousand years, that person, even if he gained knowledge from people, the knowledge of the person our Lord has raised he could not match. Look how clear it is. As for those shaped by Our knowledge, with Allah's knowledge you can expand this. That is, you can interpret it. Just as you interpret Alif, Lam, Mim, you can interpret this too. Here, when Allah Almighty says Our knowledge, He means the knowledge of the Quran. Well, He means the knowledge of the Quran, but do you have some of the qualities of the knowledge of the Quran ? Do you have some of the qualities of the knowledge Allah Almighty teaches?

Such as what, Hodja? Such as what, you ask? The science of kalam, of fiqh, of creed, ladunni knowledge, knowledge of states, knowledge of words, whatever you want, do you have it? No. Then do not interpret. You are someone who learns Allah's knowledge from people. But look what it says now. Shaped by Allah's knowledge; this is shaping. What does it say: as for those shaped by Our knowledge? We have believed in it. Why did we believe? Because he knows his Lord as you see Him. We have believed in it.

All the verses, clear and veiled, are from our Lord, they say. Only those who use their reason and who enter through the door of that knowledge know these.

People outside of these cannot know this.

Yes. So the muqatta'a verses: the interpretation of the ambiguous only Allah knows. Whoever gives them a meaning, brand him a heretic at once, according to this verse.

Now people certainly know some things. They know, but they do not know the source in depth.

Allah Almighty has, for people, mercy. People do not know how to benefit from that mercy.

Hodja, is Allah's mercy not benefited from? Had he benefited from Allah's mercy, at the address Elestü bi Rabbiküm he would have given Allah Almighty a good covenant and raised his rank. So mercy rains down. Whoever fills his vessel from that mercy drinks.

Picture a thirsty land. Rain will fall, mercy will fall, and they will quench their thirst. And Allah Almighty, since He will give life to His creatures, Allah Almighty does not only rain rain on them. To sustain their lives, to light the way before them, to find peace, to be protected from evil, to protect their honour and dignity, He sends them scholars. Whoever does not listen to these scholars wrongs his own soul. That is Allah's mercy. They understand from the source. From the source.

We show the source from the Quran. We show it from the verses. We do not present the opinion of Ahmet or Mehmet as the source.

Ahmet or Mehmet has interpreted the Quran according to his own reason. Fine. And you take what he interpreted to be right. Perhaps he interpreted it rightly. Again you take it to be right. And what he interpreted wrongly you also take to be right. Because there is no source. Who is the source? Human reason. The source is human reason. In that case, of the books you have read, some are right, some are wrong. Those interpreted wrongly, or those conveyed wrongly when translated into Turkish, you take to be right. In that case you become a follower of Ahmet or Mehmet.

We always say this. Do not become our followers either. If we do not address you with verses, do not follow my reason and say right to everything I say. Why? If I do not confirm it to you with verses. With verses. Everything I say, I say within the verses. If one day I too should step outside the verses, then it is your right over me too: warn me as well. As Hazrat Umar said: if you deviate from Allah's religion, with this stick in my hand I will beat you back onto the path, he says. (?) you too, he says, if you leave the religion, I too will beat you back onto the path. (?) he says. When he says: I will beat you with Allah's verses, he says: Elhamdülillah.

I too have my (?), he says. Yes. We do not present human opinion as the source. (?)

He too took his source from the Quran. Whether wrongly or rightly, he explained it. So for thirsty people, a ready spring has gushed forth, there is a source. If you turn your back on this source and go looking for a source, you will wander a great deal.

So no one can give a meaning to the muqatta'a verses at the beginning of the surahs. Only those with a disease in their hearts, those with sickness in them, those who fall for the passion to be a leader, give them meaning.

What did we say in our commentary? The letters at the beginning of the surahs are called al-huruf al-muqatta'a, the disjointed letters. Letters like these, whose meaning is not clear, are also called ambiguous verses. Such letters are a verse of the surahs they are in. One verse. Alif, Lam, Mim is one verse.

Their meaning only, their meaning only Allah knows. No one can give them a meaning. Their secret belongs to Allah. Those with strife in their hearts, to increase their kufr, chase after such verses, we have said. Yes.
