(Allah) will say, “You have stayed only for a short time. If you only knew (that).

Tafsir

Allah (swt) says to the inhabitants of Hell: "Yes, you stayed only for a little while. If only you had realized while you were living in this world that a thousand years of this world is like a day of the Hereafter. If only you could realize that you cannot stay on earth for more than a few hours.

You were warned, miracles were shown to you, verses were sent to you, and Prophets told you the truth, but you had your eyes veiled against the truth and your ears were weighed down against the truth. In this state, you were in a state of heedlessness and delusion. Because you had your hearts sealed against the truth, you were incapable of understanding and thinking. Your fondness for the world, your pursuit of lust, your indulgence in that which Allah forbids, such as drinking and gambling, and your depression when Allah was mentioned, drove you away from Allah. Of course, you did not understand how long you would stay in the world because you were far away from the Verses of Allah. If only you could realize and understand that your stay in this world will be very short.

What is said in the video

Verse 114 of Surah Al-Mu'minun says: You stayed only a short while — our Lord. If only you had known this. Thinking that, within a short time in the world, our life seemed very long to us, while compared to the hereafter you lived a few hours — if only you had known that beforehand and acted accordingly. We, it says, held up a light before you with the verses. We dispelled your darkness. Those days of yours spent in darkness — under the light of Our verses We dispelled them. But you turned your back on that light and left yourselves in darkness. Yes. Allah Almighty says to the people of Hell: Yes, you stayed only a short while.

That a thousand years of this world are like one day of the hereafter — if only you had understood that while living worldly life. If only you had grasped that you could not stay in the world more than a few hours.

You were warned. Miracles were shown, verses were sent. And although the prophets explained the truth, you had veils drawn over your eyes against the truth. Again, you had heaviness put in your ears against the truth. In these states you were in heedlessness and misguidance. Because you had your hearts sealed against the truth, you were devoid of understanding and thought. Your devotion to the world, your chasing after lust, your addiction to ills like drink and gambling, which Allah forbade, and your unease when Allah was mentioned drew you away from Allah. Of course, how long you would stay in the world, since you kept away from Allah's verses, you could not understand.

If only you had realized and understood that you would stay in the world only a very short time.
