When you heard this slander, weren’t the believing men and women (mu’min) supposed to think well of each other, and say, “This is a clear slander”?
Tafsir
Allah (swt) reproaches the believers, men and women, with this verse. That is to say, when you hear this slander, should not the believing men and women say that this is slander, even though they themselves know that it is slander? He says. Allah (swt) creates events so that the laws He sends to people are better understood. Through these events, He implants His Verses in people's memories. Here too Allah creates an event. Allah (swt) helps people to understand the Verses by showing the believers as examples. By making it seem as if He is addressing the believers in this verse, Allah, through the art of speech, is actually declaring to all people with this verse how bad slander and hypocrisy are in people's memories, and declaring that the punishment for those who behave in such a way is very severe.
(When you heard this slander, shouldn't the believers, men and women, have said in good conscience, "This is a clear slander"); because the believers are free from gossip and suspicion, they will certainly commit mistakes as human beings. Here, the believers commit mistakes before this verse was revealed, and then with the revelation of this verse, they repent and ask for forgiveness from Allah (swt), and they will be forgiven by Allah (swt). When Allah creates an event for people, He does not create these events for them in order to make them sin. Before the verse came, Allah would not hold anyone responsible for what He did not inform, so with the coming of the verse, He shows people how to behave. Knowing that the believers have a certain place in the sight of Allah (swt) and that they will seek refuge in Allah from the mistakes they have made and that there is no going back from this position, Allah makes these people experience the events. Then he forgives them for their repentance and makes things more beautiful for people.
He is addressing the believers in order to show them how people should behave in the face of such incidents, why did you not say with your conscience, in good faith, in the face of these slanders, that such a thing cannot happen, that this is a blatant slander? It says that you have approved the words of the hypocrites who will suffer such a severe torment.
A person like Hazrat 'A'isha is one of the purest and most innocent people in the world, a mother who has a great position in the sight of Allah (swt). Allah (swt) Himself solemnized the marriage of Hazrat 'A'isha and sent her picture to the world on a vine leaf. She was married to the Prophet (s.a.w.) when she was a child. Since she was still a child, the Prophet waited for her to reach a certain age and after she reached a certain age, she and the Prophet married. When a slander is made against such a pure person whom Allah (swt) has married, why don't you listen to the voice of your conscience and say that this is a blatant slander? Should you not have said so?
What is said in the video
Surah An-Nur, verse 12. When you heard this slander, should not the believing men and women have thought well in their own consciences and said: This is an obvious slander? That is what it says. Yes, that is why our people of old, our forefathers, used to say: When you see someone in a bad state, rub your eyes a few times like this: I am seeing (?), so to speak. And they said it (?), indeed. That is, do not slander. Do not accuse anyone unjustly. Yes. Allah Almighty reproaches the believing men and women with the verse. Namely, in His verse, addressing the believers, with when you heard this slander: although the believing men and women knew themselves that it was a slander, should they not have said: This is a slander?
So He says. Allah Almighty, so that the laws He sent to people are better understood, creates events. Through these events, in people's memories He firmly settles His verses. Through events. So people understand the verses better through these events. They sense the wisdom in them better. Well, why don't we sense it? We hear the verse,
and pass on by. We don't want to penetrate the verse. Today on television they are showing someone. On television. An old person. When the snow starts falling, in the park he lies (?). On a bench.
The snow falls on him. They filmed it, took pictures.
That night, he says, I had a bit of a hard time, I went home, he says. The next day I came again, he says. He lay down again. With the snow on him. When he was about to freeze, they rescued him and took him away. Why did I do this? To feel the feelings of homeless people, to experience them, I did it, he says.
Yes. I did it to experience the feelings of homeless people, he says. It is a very bad thing, he says. Yes.
So it means we do not go deeply into the verses; they strike our ears like an echo and pass, and we don't enter into them. If we entered, if we lived that world, all of us would in the same situation become possessors of wisdom. What is wisdom? In which sense a verse was said. Allah gives it to your heart. Its wisdom. And He opens it to you and makes you live it.
So that the laws He sent to people are better understood, Allah Almighty creates events. Through these events He firmly settles His verses in people's memories. Here Allah Almighty creates an event. By showing the believers to people as examples, Allah Almighty helps people understand the verses. As for people, in their memories, how bad slander and hypocrisy are, by presenting it in His verse as if addressing the believers, with Allah's art of speech, He in fact makes it known to all people with this verse, and declares that the punishment of those who behave like this is very severe. So the verse saying: When you heard this slander, should not the believing men and women, with their own consciences, have thought well, when you heard this slander, should not the believing men and women, with their own consciences, have thought well and said: This is an obvious slander? Since the believers are far from gossip and suspicion, as human beings they will surely make some mistakes. Here too, it makes known that the believers, having made mistakes before this verse came, and then, because of this verse, remorsefully asking Allah Almighty for pardon and forgiveness, will attain Allah Almighty's pardon and forgiveness.
He says it in another verse too, doesn't He, what does it say? Do not think you have sinned, it says. (?) had not come down. If it has come down, then from now on things change. Yes.
It makes known that they will attain Allah Almighty's pardon and forgiveness. When Allah creates an event for people, He does not, so that people incur sin, create many events for them, these events. Before the verse comes, since Allah has not made it known, He will hold no one responsible; with the coming of the verse, He shows people how they should behave. As for the believers, since they have a certain place in the sight of Allah Almighty and since for these people there is no turning back from these ranks, from the mistakes they make (?) Allah, Allah lets these people live through the events.
Then, by forgiving them because of their remorse, He shows people the events in a better way.
By addressing the believers, so as to show people how people should behave in such cases, He says: Why, in the face of these slanders, thinking well, with your consciences, Such a thing cannot be, this is an obvious slander, did you not say? You approved the words of the hypocrites, who will meet such a severe punishment, He says. Now, a prophet has come as a mercy to the worlds. We believe. We have faith. His wife: even if you cut off my head, if you said she committed adultery, you could not make me say she committed adultery.
One holds on to the reasons. What is the reason? Allah Almighty Himself protects the Prophet He sent as a mercy to the worlds. He raised him Himself. The wives He gave him would give their heads, but not their honor. So Allah Almighty does not let the honor of the Prophet He sent as a mercy to the worlds be squandered. If you have faith, you cling to this with a (?) heart, and you cannot be made to say to her: You committed adultery. You cannot be made to say this. Yes. That is why, through the believers, Allah Almighty, by creating events, has these things said anyway.
Thus: You approved the words of the hypocrites, who will meet a severe punishment, He says, it says. Now, since the believer clings to this with so much faith, the believer's discernment is open. That is, his vision is greater, (?) is greater. Now I will give you an example from our country too, here. I am not a partisan, but look, pay attention. I am a child of this homeland. I am obliged to protect this homeland. I am obliged to tell the truth to the people of this homeland. A leader has come to lead you. Since the founding of the Republic, not a single tree had been planted in Turkey. Has one been planted? Is there a single work?
Do we have anything to stand on our own feet with, anything to defend ourselves with? You buy it from abroad with money. A man puts an embargo on you and finishes you off entirely. This man came along. He built your roads. Your roads, to wherever you can reach, as far as you can go. This man built your (?). This man built your unmanned aircraft. This man built your missiles. Against those who would not give us 90-kilometer missiles when we asked, missiles that strike over 200 kilometers he has built. He launched the satellite into space. Sir, in 2018 the (?) aircraft, the (?) aircraft, he will bring out.
He is building your aircraft carrier. This man is trying to keep you, your children, the future, the Muslim, on their feet. Now can you make me call this man bad? You can't. Who calls him bad? Those who cannot grasp this, who cannot think, people who, for a few pennies of gain, serve outsiders as slaves against the homeland, only they do that. They call him bad. Yes.
May Allah grant these people to come to their senses.
A person like our mother Aisha, one of the purest and most innocent people in the world, is a mother of ours who holds a great rank in the hand of Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty Himself performed the marriage of our mother Aisha and sent her picture on a vine leaf to the world. He wed her to the Prophet (peace be upon him) at a child's age. Because she was still a child, the Prophet (peace be upon him) waited for her to reach adult age, and after she reached a certain age, she and the Prophet (peace be upon him) were married. When such a pure person, whose marriage Allah Almighty performed, is slandered, why did you not listen to the voice of your consciences and say: This is an obvious slander?
Should you not have said so? He says.
Yes.
