An-Nur 15: For you received it with your tongues (narrating it from person to person) and said things with your mouths that you don’t possess knowledge about. You were thinking that this is irrelevant, but in the sight of Allah, this is a great sin.

Translation

For you received it with your tongues (narrating it from person to person) and said things with your mouths that you don’t possess knowledge about. You were thinking that this is irrelevant, but in the sight of Allah, this is a great sin.

Tafsir

You were muttering the false accusations of the hypocrites who made this slander, and you were muttering it in your mouths. In this verse, "slurring" refers to the believers' unwillingness to say this slander, as well as their unwillingness to speak in the face of this accusation against the wife of such a Prophet and our mother. Shouldn't we have kept silent in such situations and protected our own honor and dignity by saying that this is a slander against our mother?

When a person transfers something to another party, he or she must have some knowledge about it. Then, if necessary, he should convey it to people. To convey half-truths, half-baked, untrue words to people out of ego or excitement or unconsciousness makes people sinful in the eyes of Allah. Especially when an accusation is made against a person of honor and dignity, chastity and virtue, shouldn't people, as soon as they hear about it, be told to prevent this slander and that such a thing would never happen by these people?

It is a great crime in the sight of Allah to slander people who are honorable and dignified, upright and chaste. When people slander people in their own minds, as they please their ego, even if it pleases them, it is not pleasing to Allah. Those who engage in such gossip and backbiting are sinners in the sight of Allah. Accusations against innocent people are also a great sin in the sight of Allah. And if it is the wife of a Prophet, it is like murder. There is no difference in intention between the killing of Prophets by the people who disbelieved in Allah and the intentional and deliberate slander of a Prophet's wife. If this is an accusation against the wife of a Prophet who came as a mercy to the worlds, it is a great crime in the sight of Allah, beyond murder. Those who make such accusations are guilty of great sins.

What is said in the video

Because you passed this slander on to one another from tongue to tongue and kept mouthing something you had no knowledge of, it says.

You think it is insignificant. Yet in the sight of Allah it is a very great offense.

The baseless accusations of the hypocrites who put forward this slander you passed from tongue to tongue and mouthed. In this verse, the mouthing, besides the believers not wanting to utter this slander, shows that, faced with this accusation against such a Prophet's wife and our mother, they talked about it willy-nilly. Yet in such situations, should we not have kept silent and, saying this is a slander against our mother, protected our own honor and dignity, we say. If someone had slandered a person's mother, someone, toward the one who slandered your mother, would you also harbor suspicion? Because she has been slandered.

And she too: your mother or that mother. There is no difference at all. Yes. If people understood it this way, they would understand the verses better. When a person passes something on somewhere, they must certainly have some knowledge about it. Only after that should they pass it on to people if necessary. Passing on half-baked, baseless words out of the whims of the nafs, or excitement, or thoughtlessly to people makes people sinners in the sight of Allah. Especially when an accusation is made against someone honorable and dignified, decent and chaste, as soon as it is heard, ought this slander not to have been prevented, and ought people not to have said that such a thing would never occur on these persons' part?

Ought they not?

In the sight of Allah, slandering honorable and dignified, decent and chaste people is a great offense. People slandering others by their own reckoning, as their nafs likes, may please them, but it does not please Allah. Those who engage in this gossip and backbiting become sinners in the sight of Allah. Accusations made against innocent people are, again, among the great sins in the sight of Allah. And if this is a Prophet's wife, it is like a murder. Between the peoples who once denied Allah killing their prophets and this slander being made knowingly and deliberately against a Prophet's wife, in terms of intention there is no difference whatsoever.

And if this is an accusation against the wife of the Prophet who came as a mercy to the worlds, beyond even murder, it is a very great offense in the sight of Allah. Those who make such accusations incur great sins. Yes.
