Translation

If you can’t find anyone there, do not enter until you are given permission. If you are told “return”, then return, for this is a cleaner (gesture) for you. Allah knows what you are doing.

Tafsir

If you do not find anyone in the house where you are visiting, wait for a while. If there is no sound from inside, do not go in, even if it is a close relative. If a voice from inside tells you to go back, go back. Because in Islam, it is Allah's command to follow the rules of courtesy. Perhaps the host is in an inappropriate situation or does not want to reveal secrets that are in the harem of the house, so he or she does not allow you to be a guest or to meet with him or her.

When a host refuses to receive his guest and sends him back, it should not be taken to mean that he does not want that person or that he is kicking him out of his house. In order to remove this resentment, Allah (swt) has sent this verse to strengthen people's bonds with each other and to remove the suspicion between them. The person who comes as a guest, when the host tells him to go back, follows the Ayat of Allah (swt) and does not harbor suspicions about the host and does not bear ill-will towards him. The host, on the other hand, does not gain any sin for not accepting his guest and sending him back, as he is fulfilling the command of Allah (swt). In this way, God gives life to both sides and to people.

What is said in the video

Surah An-Nur, verse 28: If you find no one there, do not enter it until you are given permission. That is, you came to a house and found no one at home. You knocked three times, nobody answers, nobody is home. Do not enter the house, it says, do not enter it until you are given permission. What does that mean? The man did not answer you, maybe he is at home. If he does not answer, do not enter until you are given permission. If you are told to go back, go back at once. For this is purer conduct for you. Allah knows what you do. Now, the words we explained there, Allah Almighty, with this verse, has completed.

What does it say? You knocked on the door, no answer. Or when you are told from inside to go back, go back and leave, it says. Yes, when you go as a guest and find no one, wait for a while. If no sound comes from inside, do not go in, even if it is a close relative. If a voice from inside says go back, go back. Because in Islam, observing the rules of courtesy is Allah's command. Perhaps the host was in an unsuitable state, or because he did not want the secrets of the private quarters of the house to get out, he did not receive you as a guest or for a visit. The host's refusing his guest and sending him back, meaning he does not want that person or is throwing him out of his house — that is not how it should be perceived.

To remove this touchiness, Allah Almighty, by sending this verse, both strengthens people's bonds with one another and removes the suspicions between them. The person who came as a guest, when the host sends him back, by following Allah Almighty's verse, does not fall into suspicions about the host and does not bear him a grudge. And the host, since he carries out Allah Almighty's command, in not receiving his guest and sending him back, incurs no sin. In this way Allah gives life to both sides and to people. Certainly.
