Vow to that; We have sent down for you verses that clearly explain, examples of those who lived before you, and advice for the God-fearing (muttaqi).
Tafsir
Allah is eternal and everlasting. With this verse of the Qur'an, He has clearly informed the people of what happened to the people of the past and the status of the people who have attained piety, and He has also clearly informed the people that the Essence of Allah (swt) is alive, that is, He is eternal and everlasting, that His creation belongs to Allah, and that there is no other God but Allah (swt), through the verses of the Holy Qur'an.
Just as history repeats itself, people take each other's traits and deeds as examples. They are like copies of each other, with similar trajectories.
Allah (swt) informs people of His Essence and proves His Existence with the Verses that He sends clearly to every mind, but Allah (swt) gives examples of what happened to the people of the past when they turned away from Allah (swt), lived in pride and arrogance, and turned their faces away from Allah (swt).
That is to say: O people! How We destroyed those who did not listen to their Prophets, who turned their backs on Our Verses which We sent, who asked for miracles from their Prophets, but after the miracles appeared, they again disbelieved in Allah. How We seized them and gave them the punishment they deserved. How We turned their homelands upside down, how We made them fall on their knees and perish where they were, O people! After these, We brought in their place tribes who knew Allah, and how they forgot all these events and what had happened to the tribes that had just passed before them, and how they indulged in the pleasures of the world with their own desires and pleasures. They followed the path of the tribes that perished. Taking them as examples for themselves, they followed the filth of their ancestors in their sensual lives, and in this state, they forgot Allah in a very short time. We destroyed them and replaced them with people who knew Allah. Until this day, the Prophets have conveyed Our Verses to you. We have given you news of the pious among these people, who held fast to their Prophets and to the commands of Allah, and We have given them news of the mercy of Allah and of Our promise to place them in the Gardens of Anand, where rivers flow from the ground. O people! And those who disbelieved in Allah by doing evil, We inform you by example that We will destroy them in this world with torment and destruction, and turn their land into a threshing floor, and in the Hereafter We will subject them to everlasting torment. Allah's words are true. God does not break His promise.
O people! Now it is your turn. After all these events and examples, you can either continue in the darkness of swamps and crooked paths and seek your destruction. Or you may follow the straight paths, under the light of Allah, and seek your salvation and seek Allah's paradise. Every soul will be held to account in full for what it has earned. What you have earned is the reward of your two hands. Allah is the Judge of Judges. Allah does not will injustice on any soul. Every soul wrongs itself.

Surah An-Nur, verse 34, that is where we have come. Surah An-Nur, verse 34, that is where we have come. ...examples from those who, and for those who have attained piety admonitions We have sent down, He says. How beautifully He says it, Allah Almighty.
This verse is truly a slap for people. A slap. What does He say? Verily. Allah Almighty swears an oath.
Ve lekad enzelnâ ileykum âyâtin mübeyyinâtin ve meselen mine'llezîne halev min kablikum ve mev'izaten li'l-muttakîn. Verily We have sent down to you verses that clearly make known what is needed, verses that everyone can understand, examples from those who lived and passed before you, and admonitions for those who have attained piety. That is, the verses always confirm one another, you see; We never give up making comparisons with the mosquito and (?), He says. He has sent down His verses in a way everyone can understand. Allah Almighty is everlasting from pre-eternity to eternity. With this verse, what befell past people, and the states of the people who attained piety, and also to people that Allah's being is Hayy, that is, Hayy, since all created beings, Allah Almighty, and who gives life to all that is created, who needs none of His creation, who is beyond time and place.
Yes. Allah Almighty is everlasting from pre-eternity to eternity. With this verse, what befell past people, and the states of the people who attained piety, and also to people that Allah's being is Hayy, that is, living, and everlasting from pre-eternity to eternity, that what He created belongs to Allah, and that there is no god other than Allah, He has made known clearly through the verses of the Quran.
Just as history is nothing but repetition, people too, by each other's traits and the deeds they do, take each other as examples. Their beliefs too resemble each other; they are like copies of one another. Although Allah Almighty informs people of His being and proves His existence clearly to every mind with the verses He sent, people's distancing themselves from Allah, their living in pride and arrogance, and what befell past peoples because they turned their faces from Allah, Allah Almighty relates with examples. Namely: O people, those who did not listen to their prophets, who turned their backs on Our verses We sent, who from their prophets asked for miracles and, after these miracles appeared, still denied Allah, how did We destroy them?
How did We seize them and give them the punishments they deserved? How did We turn their lands upside down? How did We bring them to their knees where they were and destroy them? O people! After them, in their place, peoples who knew Allah We brought. These too, so many events and what befell the peoples who passed shortly before them they forgot, and with the desires of the nafs and with pleasure, how they plunged into the amusements of the world.
They followed the path of the peoples upon whom destruction came. Taking them as examples, in their lives of the nafs they followed the filth of their forefathers. In this state they forgot Allah in a very short time. These too We destroyed, and in the place of these peoples, again peoples who knew Allah We brought. Up to this day of yours, prophets delivered Our verses to you. Among these people We gave you news of the people of piety. These people held fast to their prophets and to Allah's commands. That, attaining Allah's mercy, in the (?) gardens We promised them, from whose ground rivers flow, We will settle them, of this We gave news.
O people! Those who deny Allah by doing evil, We destroy in this world with punishment and ruin, and after turning their places into a scattered threshing floor, in the hereafter We will leave them in eternal (?); of this We inform you with examples. Allah's words are true. Allah does not go back on His promise. O people! Now it is your turn. After so many events and examples, either advance in the swamp and the darkness of crooked paths and seek your destruction, or on the straight path, under Allah's light, seek your salvation and aspire to Allah's Paradise. Every soul will be called to account in full for what it has earned.
What you earn is the recompense of your two hands. Allah is the judge of judges. Allah wills no injustice to any soul. Every soul wrongs itself. Yes.
