Translation

They are the people who are neither prevented by trade matters nor by business matters, from mentioning Allah, establishing the prayer and paying obligatory alm. They are the ones who fear a day in which hearts and eyes will turn upside down.

Tafsir

Allah (swt) compares the people in whose hearts He has placed His light to lamps and explains their condition to us through parables. Except when people are distracted by their human attributes, they can never stop remembering Allah (swt). Neither trade nor commerce can distract such people, who are the lamps of the earth, from the remembrance of Allah. Allah (swt) has scattered these people on the earth like pearls. These people will come to the earth in every age until the Day of Resurrection and Allah (swt) will make those lands safe for the sake of these people and give life to other people. They will also tell people about the religion of Allah and be examples for people.

When will the Resurrection take place? There will be no more souls coming to the world from the realm of Berzah. There will be no more people who say Allah, and among them there will be people who say Allah but do not know Allah. Allah (swt) will have mercy on the people who say Allah (swt), and He will give them sleep, and He will take their lives, and the Day of Judgment will come upon the people who do not recognize Allah (swt).

So where are these people who are the light of the earth like this lamp? Why are they not sought and found and their knowledge and ideas are not utilized? Why do we turn our backs on these people and turn away from them or do not even know that they exist? Those who turn away from Allah, who live ignorant of the Verses of Allah, will surely live ignorant of these people who are the lamps of the earth. People who forget Allah who created them, will they not forget Allah's creation? Of course, they will forget much more quickly and they will be in a position to ridicule them.

People, who are the lamps of this earth, are afraid of the Day of Judgment and the gathering of all people at the Judgment, a day when hearts and eyes are confused. Because the Court-i Kübra has been established, all people have been gathered together, hell and paradise have been brought closer to them, the truth of the matter has been revealed, and the time has come to live an eternal life. These people fear a day when every soul will be held to account for what it has done in this world, when all souls will go to their rightful places with what they have earned, and when the eyes and hearts of the sinners will be turned upside down when they see that Allah is true and that Day of Reckoning is true.

What is said in the video

We left off at Surah An-Nur, verse 37, he says. Surah An-Nur, verse 37. We are reading the translation. They are people whom neither trade nor commerce keeps from remembering Allah, from performing the prayer and from giving zakat. They fear a day when hearts and eyes are in turmoil, it says. Now there are such people who have risen to a certain degree, struggled with their nafs, people of a certain station. Who have risen higher in their nafs mutmainna, that is, after the manifestations have reached the nafs radiya level, people who enter among the righteous servants. When they shop, they always shop with regard for what is right.

That is: is there profit in this trade I have made? How much of this profit am I taking? Or how much benefit am I providing to the person before me? Constantly remembering Allah Almighty is a dhikr. Dhikr does not necessarily mean saying Allah, Allah, Allah. That is dhikr too. But constantly remembering Allah is a dhikr. For example, contemplating while walking on the road is a dhikr. Well, in this case, such people exist. Such people. In their shopping, in their speech, in every circumstance, they speak in measure and speak while controlling themselves. In this case a person always speaks oriented toward the truth, keeping the truth in mind. So what does it say? They are people whom neither trade nor commerce keeps from remembering Allah, from performing the prayer and from giving zakat, it says.

They are such people anyway. Once a prayer time has come and they have performed that time's prayer, they are people preparing for the next time.

They fear a day when hearts and eyes are in turmoil. This "hearts and eyes in turmoil" carries two meanings. The first: the signs of the Day of Judgment. Well. The second: on the Day of Judgment, at the Great Court, Eleysallahu bi-ahkemi'l-hâkimîn, before Allah Almighty, who is that, on that Day of Gathering eyes are surely in turmoil. When no soul benefits another soul, when all people say "myself, myself", at that time, each, with the deeds they actually did, with the rewards and sins they earned, so that no one is wronged, on that day everyone's earnings will be given to them in full. Yes.

Allah Almighty likens the people in whose hearts He has placed His light to lamps. He relates their states to us with similes. Except for the absent-mindedness of their human attributes, they can never stop remembering Allah Almighty. Such people, who are the lamps of the earth: neither shopping nor trade can turn those people away from the remembrance of Allah. Allah Almighty has scattered these people across the earth like pearls. In every age until the Day of Judgment these people will come to the earth, and Allah Almighty, for their sake, making those lands safe, will give life to other people too.

Moreover, these people will tell people about Allah's religion and will be examples for people. When will the Day of Judgment come? There will be no souls left to come into the world from the realm of barzakh, and no person who says Allah will remain. And among them, people who say Allah yet know nothing of Allah will be found. Allah Almighty will show mercy to the people who say Allah too. Giving these people a sleep, He will take their lives. The Day of Judgment will come upon people who do not know Allah. Yes.

Then where are these people who, like lamps, are the light of the earth? Why? These people are not sought out and found. And no benefit is drawn from these people's knowledge and ideas. Why do we turn our backs on these people and move away from them, or not even know of their existence? Those who distance themselves from Allah, the people who live unaware of Allah's verses, will of course also be unaware of these people, the lamps of the earth, as they live. People who forget Allah who created them, would they not forget what Allah created? Of course they forget much faster and come to the point of mocking them.

Now people are just like the example of this hammer and the nail.

A man is driving a nail into the wall. The nail says to the hammer: why are you hitting my head? And the hammer says: hey, why are you telling me? Look at the one hitting, it says. Although Allah Almighty, who gives life to the worlds, gives all His creatures sustenance, people have forgotten the owner of the giver of this sustenance, always according to their own lives, their own minds: I took, I did, I made that, I made this, I gave to this one, I gave to that one. Yet they never think that Allah Almighty, who created these worlds from nothing, for mankind and His creatures, has spread and placed everything needed in this realm of dominion, and in this realm has chosen man as caliph over these creatures.

What does caliph mean? It means one who looks after things in place of another. In this case, these people see so many blessings, take them, eat, drink. Many people, unaware of Allah's existence, even in denial, without mentioning Allah, (?) those blessings. In this case, if the person who, toward the sustenance of Allah Almighty the Creator, in this way behaves ungratefully, the person Allah has raised in knowledge does not remember, what of it? To him it is nothing at all. Yes.

So these people who are the lamps of the earth, on that Day of Judgment, when all people in the gathering are assembled, fear a day when hearts and eyes are in turmoil. Because the Great Court is set up, all people are gathered together, Hell and Paradise have been brought near to them, the truth of the matter has come to light, the time to live an eternal life has come. So a day when every soul will be called to account for what it did in the world, when all souls go with what they earned to the places they deserve, when, seeing that Allah is true and that Day of Reckoning is true, their (?) eyes and hearts are in turmoil: such a day these people fear.
