And that time you killed someone and (kept secret who was the murderer and) accused each other of the crime. Allah, however, is the One exposing the things you are hiding.
Tafsir
In this verse, Allah (swt) knows what they are going to do, so He patiently gives them a respite so that they will fall into the game that He has prepared for them, and it appears as if He is fulfilling all that they say, in order to play out their own destiny by revealing their own nature against Allah (swt) through these events.
This incident started to unfold when two young men killed their uncle and blamed the crime on each other in order to inherit their uncle's inheritance. When they appealed to Hazrat Moses for the truth of the matter, this verse was revealed.
When they hid the young men who killed their uncle and blamed it on each other, they appealed to Hazrat Musa to find the murderer. When Hazrat Musa could not find the culprit, he sought refuge in Allah (swt). Allah (swt) revealed many wisdoms in this incident. To list some of them.
1- The ancient Egyptians worshipped the cow and the Jews worshipped the calf, and he slaughtered the cow to show that these events were false.
2- Slaughtering the cow in order to declare that there is no deity other than Allah, and that everything worshipped by mankind and jinn other than Him is shirk, and that He is the absolute ruler and owner of all creation.
3- To show us with clear miracles that nothing is difficult for Allah (swt), that by raising the dead, He will resurrect people after this world, and that Allah (swt) is omnipotent through such events.
However, Allah is not free from His creatures. That is, Allah is always with the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. In this case, nothing is hidden to Him. That is why the verse says (Allah is the Revealer of what you conceal).
What is said in the video
Allah Almighty describes the dead man. Remember when you had killed a person and, hiding who the killer was, pushed the blame off yourselves onto one another; they know, you see. What did we say a moment ago? They know who killed him, and they push the blame onto one another. In this situation the real culprit cannot be found.
So, to find the real culprit, they turn to this way: you tell Allah, so that He makes this culprit known to us. And Allah Almighty, precisely for them, both to dissolve the love of the calf from their hearts, that is, having it slaughtered, cast away, given up, and also, this dead man, with a dead calf, that is, striking the dead man with a part of a dead calf and bringing the dead man back to life, to show them great miracles and increase their faith. Yes.
Yet Allah brings out what you conceal, He says. Surely everything will come out. In this verse: Allah Almighty, since He knows what they will do, patiently, so that they themselves fall into the game people have prepared, grants them respite. They lay traps. But what does Allah Almighty say? We are the best of those who lay traps, He says. The best of those who lay traps. How does this work? Traps are sometimes great affairs that can end against people, even in their death. Traps. They lay traps for people. They kill. But Allah Almighty's trap gives people not death but life. That is why He says: We are the best of those who lay traps.
They lay those traps, and We do away with them, He says. Sir, and if a person goes further, he falls into the trap he made himself.
In one narration, Abu Jahl, I think; in one narration he invites the Prophet. He digs a pit in front of him, and covers it over. By making him fall into the pit, there he prepares a trap, such as to injure him, or (?), or kill him.
Gabriel (peace be upon him) informs the Prophet (peace be upon him) of this. Just as he approaches the pit, he stops him. Meanwhile, when the Prophet turns back, it must have been Abu Jahl, or else someone else; I cannot recall the exact name. As soon as he sees him turning back: O Muhammad, wait, come, he says, come. He forgets the pit he prepared. He himself falls into that pit. Yes. So, if a person goes further, he falls into the trap he prepared himself.
His appearing as if He were not fulfilling all that they said is so that people bring out, through these events, their own nature towards Allah Almighty, and their own destiny plays out. What was He doing? What does it say here? Sir, His giving them respite, that is, giving people respite in this way, as a lesson for the people who come after, and to bring out what kind of people they are; for this, sir, with the respite Allah Almighty gave them, He holds people as witnesses to Himself.
Two young men killing their uncle to get hold of their uncle's inheritance, and putting the blame on one another, and, for the truth of the matter, turning to Moses — this is what brings about this verse. When they hid the young men who had killed their uncle and put the blame on one another, they turn to Moses to find the killer. When Moses cannot resolve the matter, he takes refuge in Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty brings out many wisdoms in this event.
If we list some of them: 1. Having the cow slaughtered to show that the ancient Egyptians' worship of the cow, and the Jews' worship of the calf, were false. 2. By having the cow slaughtered: that there is no god but Allah, and that everything other than Him is shirk, and that He is the absolute ruler and owner of all created things. 3. That nothing is hard for Allah Almighty; that by raising the dead, after the worldly realm too people will be raised like this; that through such events, that Allah Almighty has power over all things — it is so that He openly shows us His miracles. We could list many, that is. There we take it briefly.
Sir, there are many more things here we could list. Sir, leaving a lesson for the people who come after, that people (?) other than Allah, and that their owner is absolutely Allah, and that by taking refuge in Allah everything will become easy, that his way will be opened, that his Lord will make everything clear or plain to him — His making this known. There are many things here. We list two or three of them briefly. Yet Allah Almighty is not (?) from His creatures. That is, the earths and the heavens and (?), every moment, every moment, He is with them. So nothing is hidden from Him. That is why, on this subject, the verse says: Allah brings out what you conceal.
Nothing remains hidden from Allah. Nothing. Allah Almighty — of this universe, these heavens and earth you see, and what is between the two, the heavens and the earth and what is between the two, encircled by the Throne of Allah — every atom is manifest to our Lord. None of them is free of it. That is why, He says, even if you went to the seventh depth of the earth or to the remotest corner of the sky, We would still find you there. That is, if we widen the meaning of "We find" here: wherever you go, We know you. Yes.
