These are the ones who have sold the hereafter for this world. Therefore, their punishment will not be alleviated, and there is no help for them.
Tafsir
People who turn their backs on Allah are those who prefer the life of this world to the life of the Hereafter. People who do not recognize Allah, who do not listen to His commands, who do not fear Him, attach their existence to this realm of property, and put Allah's creations above Allah (swt). They cling to the created beings as if they were gods, and they love them and feel desire for them. Such people are committing shirk against Allah (swt) because they have forgotten their Creator.
In this respect, they do not care about the Hereafter. Their entire existence and life is in this world. Therefore, the laws of such people are their own desires. When they live under the laws of a state, they appear to obey the laws of that state. Where there is no one, they never obey the laws of the state. They are subject to the laws of their nafs. These are the wrongdoers.
From them the torment will not be alleviated and they will not be helped. If people do not use their intellect, are ungrateful for what Allah has given them, and do not recognize their Lord, while Allah (swt) proves His existence to people at all times, equips them with the gift of intellect, and gives them proofs of the knowledge of His Essence, but they continue to deny Allah, then they are worthy of all kinds of torment. That torment will not be alleviated from them. They have no helpers. Even if they have done good deeds, their good deeds have been in vain, for they have disbelieved in their Creator and have disbelieved in their origin. In this respect, they are Fitnah. They are the ones who have not perfected their nafs, so they are the ones who corrupt the places where they live. Their place is eternal hell and torment.
They have no helpers. Because of their wrongdoing, selfishness and rebellion against Allah, their sins have burned up their good deeds. They are deprived of the capital of good deeds. There is no one to intercede for such people. They will be all alone on the Day of Reckoning. They have been among those who wronged their own souls in the eternal hereafter for the sake of temporary worldly benefits.
May Allah first reform us. May He then protect those whom He has reformed from such hellish fate.
What is said in the video
Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 86 — we come to it now. Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 86. These are the ones who sold the hereafter for the life of this world. Yes, always, always we say it, we tell you: Never follow your nafs and, for this world's few hours of life — Hodja, why do you say a few hours, we live 70-80 years. If this world is a likeness and a shadow of the hereafter, a thousand years here are like one day of the hereafter, says Allah Almighty. If a thousand years here are like one day of the hereafter, within this one day, divide a life of 70-80 years by a thousand years and you will find how many hours it is.
Now, if within these few hours you are deceived by its pleasures and joys, if you follow Satan's footsteps, if you trample on Allah's life-giving, peace-giving, luminous path and His proof, you will have sold this world for the hereafter.
These, it says, are the ones who sold the hereafter for the life of this world. Therefore the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be helped. Yes. Why? They will not be helped. What is the reason? Look what Allah Almighty says. Who is more true to his word than Allah? Well, Allah Almighty says: if you do this, you will go to hell and suffer punishment. (?) Then if He went and helped him, He Himself would not have kept the word He gave. That is why — how beautiful. How beautifully the verses always support each other. These are the ones who sold the hereafter for the life of this world.
Therefore the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be helped. How do we know that the punishment is not lightened for them? In hell they will say to Malik: O Malik, tell your Lord to lighten the punishment on us a little. So how are they left with no one there?
Nor will they be helped. How are they not helped? Allah Almighty has the attributes Rahman and Rahim. The attribute Rahman is for everyone in the universe, the attribute Rahim in the hereafter only for the believer, so His mercy through the attribute Rahim will be lifted from the others, and they will be left there with no one, alone. Apart from those Allah Almighty permits, no one at all will be able to help anyone. But those whom Allah Almighty permits, who within the religion of Islam lived Islam and attained Allah's mercy — and in this situation, in a situation, in a situation they will again be of help to Islam.
In verse 86, the people who turn their backs on Allah are people who have preferred the life of this world to the life of the hereafter. Who (?) these? People who turn their backs on Allah. Them — their eyes are on this rubbish-heap of a world. What do I liken them to? A ship sailing on the ocean.
In the raging waves of the ocean the ship sinks. But the ship is full of gold. In the middle of the ocean, without looking at those raging waves, he lunges at that gold, even at the cost of his own destruction, and together with that gold he sinks to the bottom of the ocean. He perishes and is gone. The world is just like this. When he turns his back on the hereafter, he plunges into this rubbish-heap of a world, and this world pulls him toward destruction, toward the swamp, and finally drags him to his ruin. It leads him to nothingness. It deprives him of Allah's mercy in the hereafter. Yes. People who turn their backs on Allah are people who have preferred the life of this world to the life of the hereafter.
People who do not know Allah, who do not heed His command, who (?) from Him, by binding their existence to this realm of possessions, holding what Allah created above Allah Almighty, clinging to created beings like a god, loving them, craving them — when such people also forget the Creator, they commit shirk against Allah Almighty. If you love what Allah created more than Allah, if in one's heart the love of Allah grows less before this matter, you will have associated a partner with Him. You loved not Allah but what Allah created. You made it a god. You trusted in it. You relied on it. Whereas if there is anyone to trust and rely on, it is Allah.
If there was one who trusted in his wealth and relied on it, it was Korah. He perished and was gone, along with his treasure. Allah (?) him into the depths of the earth. We will come to those verses too. We will come to them too. So the property, the children and the (?) that Allah created — do not trust them. Trust in Allah. Look, in a verse Allah Almighty says: your children and your wives are a trial (fitna) for you. Don't go. We will come to those verses too. I will explain it all to you. Just listen, find the truth, see the reality through the verses. Observe your surroundings well. When you weigh people's half-baked talk against Allah's verses, like the one who does the (?) of a problem in mathematics, like that (?), you immediately work out what is wrong.
At once. Isn't that so, Ender? It gets solved, doesn't it? Yes. For this reason they do not care about the life of the hereafter. Those who fix their eyes on the world. They do not care about the life of the hereafter. Their whole existence and life is this worldly realm.
Therefore the laws of such people are their own selfish desires.
Gentlemen, sentence by sentence, word by word — how beautiful.
What did you understand from this? Their whole existence and life is this worldly realm.
Therefore the laws of such people are their own selfish desires. Have you not seen the verse about the one who makes his nafs his god? Of course, one who turns his back on Allah will embrace what Allah created, will love those things and console himself with them, rely on them, trust in them. In this case he will satisfy his selfish desires with his possessions.
While living under the laws of a state, they appear to obey that state's laws.
But where no one is around, they never obey the state's laws. They follow the laws of their nafs. These are the wrongdoers. Who are they? The hypocrites. Beside you they appear Muslim, beside the powerful they appear Muslim, and when they come to their own partisans, left alone with their selfish feelings, they turn their backs on Allah's commands and prohibitions. From these the punishment will not be lightened, nor will they be helped. Such people.
Despite all of Allah Almighty's blessings, the person does not use his reason. Why does he not use his reason? These worlds were not created in vain. If you look at yourself, you were equipped with knowledge. With knowledge. Nothing is without knowledge. So if he used his reason, he would find the truth.
He is ungrateful for what Allah gave; (?) if he thought — this human who is not able to create anything at all. Allah Almighty has placed on earth, in the sea, in the air and on land, all beings and put them at people's service; he eats and drinks of them, in his helplessness he needs what Allah created, but he does not thank Allah. He is ungrateful to Him. If he does not acknowledge his Lord — in return Allah Almighty proves His existence to people at every moment. He equips people with the blessing of reason. If, despite the proofs that make His Being known, people go on denying Allah, then of course they deserve every kind of punishment.
Is that so? Yes. They deserve every kind of punishment. Yes. And that punishment will not be lightened for them.
Why is it not lightened? Because their desires and wishes stay on the same course, so the more you lighten their punishment, the more they turn to sedition. That is why they are left to suffer punishments that are their exact due, so that by suffering this punishment there forever rebellion from them is prevented in hell as well. In return for the punishments. Yes, so He prevents sedition there too, Allah Almighty. They have no helpers either. No one will intercede for anyone from whom Allah Almighty has lifted His mercy.
Even if the deeds they did were good deeds, these people, by denying their own Creator, are like people who deny their own origin. That is why they are a source of fitna; because they could not bring their nafs to maturity, they drown the places they are in in corruption. Their place is eternal hell and punishment. Yes, they have no helpers either. Even if the deeds they did were good deeds, all of them have gone to waste. All of it is void. Do they never do good deeds? They do. Perhaps they do more good deeds than a Muslim. They do good works. But as long as he denies Allah — as we said, the heavens and the earth, what is between the two, (?) — if he had rewards the weight of these worlds, rewards, and denied Allah just once, stepped outside what He said, then its weight, its mass, being heavier than the good deeds he did, he is in hell forever, and his good deeds too have gone to waste.
What is it? I earn well. I earned billions. I even earned a trillion. A trillion. But I got into a deal such that I went bankrupt. Even my money was not enough. It is like this. Even my money was not enough. What did I become? I ended up in debt. Why did I do it? Because I did what my owner told me not to do, I went bankrupt. That is how all the good deeds they did have gone to waste, it says. They are in punishment in hell forever. They have no helpers either. Because of the wrongs they did in the world, their selfishness, their rebellion against Allah, their sins have burned up and destroyed their rewards.
They are left without any capital of rewards. Nor is there anyone to intercede for such people. On that Day of Reckoning they are all alone. What does Allah Almighty say? Through the attribute Rahman, mercy for everyone in the universe; through the attribute Rahim, in the hereafter only for the believer. Because these are deprived of Allah Almighty's attribute Rahim in the hereafter, those who turn their backs on Allah Almighty — to those who turned their backs in the world, Allah Almighty turns His back there too. There they are left with no one, alone.
Yes. That is why they are a source of fitna. Fitna. Because the person whose eyes are fixed on the world, those who do not fear Allah's commands and prohibitions,
those who crave this rubbish-heap of a world and do not fear Allah — what do they do? They care for neither mother nor father, neither brother nor close friend. What do they do? To gain worldly goods they spin every kind of intrigue. So they also do every kind of filth. And they become the fitna of the earth. A people today are living exactly this, for money. And Allah Almighty lists the traits of that people.
That is why they are a source of fitna. Because they could not bring their nafs to maturity, they drown the places they are in in corruption. Aren't they drowning them? There is no peace left on earth. Their place is eternal hell and punishment. They have no helpers either. Because of the wrongs they did in the world, their selfishness, their rebellion against Allah, their sins have burned up and destroyed their rewards. They are left without any capital of rewards. Nor is there anyone to intercede for such people. On that Day of Reckoning they are all alone; for a passing worldly gain, in the eternal hereafter they have become of those who wronged their own souls.
May Allah first reform us, and then protect those He has reformed from such ends in the punishment of hell.
