Translation

Oh our Lord! Send to them a Prophet from among them who will read to them Your verses, teach them the Book and wisdom, and who will purify them. Indeed, You are Azeez (Exalted) and Hakeem (Ultimately-Wise).

Tafsir

Hazrat Ibrahim prayed to his descendants here and said, "O Lord, bring such people from among our descendants that they may teach people the Book, that is, that they may inform them of your commands. Teach them wisdom. What is meant here (by wisdom) is that he should explain and prove to them the subtleties of Allah's existence. He should stand on the truth and righteousness. Let him recite your Verses to them. Because Hazrat Ibrahim was very soft-hearted, he wished that even the people to come would obey Allah, and he prayed to Allah that the prophets who would come from among them would purify them, and that they would know the truth and the reality, so that they would not be subjected to torment on the Day of Judgment.

(Surely you are the Saint, the Judge) Allah is the Saint, He is the Exalted, He knows everything best and He is the One who created everything in its proper place. His knowledge encompasses the universe and He is All-Knowing. Therefore, He has created everything in the best way and in its proper place. He is sovereign and never does injustice among His creatures. Because He is the Judge of Judges.

Again the prayer of Abraham and Ishmael continues. Verse 129. Hodja, explain it once, I suppose, God willing. Yes, (?)? May Allah be pleased with you. Our Lord, from among them send a prophet who will recite Your verses, teach them the Book and wisdom, and purify them. Surely You are the Mighty, the Wise. So, from within his own line, to them, who will show them the ways of their Lord, who will teach them wisdom — send a book and a prophet, he said: the prophets descending from his line, and the last, the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Prophet. Since no other prophet will come, again, as being from the line of Abraham (peace be upon him) himself, all the imams come from the Sayyids.

They come from the Sharifs. Those descending from Hasan are called Sharif, and those descending from Husayn are called Sayyid. Just as the prophets all came from one another's loins, after the Prophet (peace be upon him) too, the imams are always Sayyids. Sharifs and Sayyids. And the scholars who came after those imams, those charged in their time, those mujtahids, are all people who come from the same (?). Yes. As we have told you too, I said: I am a Sayyid, a grandson of a grandson of Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq, and, according to the verses, it is a duty our Lord has given us. We will clean away the superstitions.

On the superstitions we clean away, (?). If you show me verses according to your own minds, you will sink further into the mire. Because those verses are not the counterpart of the superstitions you will show. And you will have exposed that you do not know, your ignorance.

Yes. We continue with the verses. Our Lord! From among them, send a prophet who will recite Your verses, teach them the Book and wisdom, and purify them. Surely You are the Mighty, the Wise. Abraham here, praying for his descendants: O Lord. Now here we say: praying for his descendants. In fact, he is praying both for his descendants and for all people.

But here, at first sight, it looks as if he prayed for his descendants. What does it say? Our Lord, among them, one who will recite Your verses, teach them the Book and wisdom, and purify them — send a prophet. Who are these? People — he will purify people. He will teach them books and wisdom, and Allah's path to them, Allah's path to them he will show. He will prove to them the truth, and that there is no god other than Allah, and the superstitions that have entered the religion he will clean away with Allah's verses. Send from our descendants imams who will light the way for people. Send prophets. Give them books, O Allah, he says.

Again he is praying for people. For their benefit. That is why he used to sigh much. Yes. Here Abraham prays for his descendants. O Lord. Bring from among our descendants such people that they teach people the Book. He says it once more: teach people the Book.

That is, let them convey Your commands to them. Let them teach them wisdom. Those people. Now. What is meant by wisdom here: let them explain to them the subtleties of Allah's existence. Let them prove it. Let them stand on right and truth. Let them recite Your verses to them. Since Abraham was very soft-hearted, he wished that even the people to come would obey Allah. Very soft (?). May they too obey Allah, he would say. He would say it for them too. So that on the Day of Judgement they would not be subjected to punishment, wishing that the prophets coming from among them would purify those people, and that right and truth they would know, he would make entreaty to Allah Almighty.

So, his praying as if for the descendants of his own line is in fact — people right and truth will be taught, and in terms of noble descent, those coming from the same (?) will show more loyalty to Allah, people of perfected nafs — since he knew people would leave that path, that imams would come from his descendants and show these people right and truth, he prays for that. He entreats.

Yes. Surely You are the Mighty, the Wise. You are the Most High of the high. Surely You are great, O Allah. He is exalted. He knows everything best, and it is He who creates everything in its proper place. That is, Allah. His knowledge encompasses the universe, and He is the All-Knowing. All-Knowing, He creates. For this reason He has created everything in the most beautiful form and in its proper place. He is the Wise; among His creatures He never commits injustice. Because He is 'eleysallâhu bi-ahkemi'l-hâkimîn', the Judge of judges. Look, we put the verses here just as they are. Yes, the glory of our Lord is exalted.

He is the Most High of the high.
