Al-Hijr 17: We have protected it from all the stoned (expelled) devil (shaytan).

And We have protected them from every stoned, outcast devil, He says. Allah Almighty protected these constellations in case the jinn come to these places and approach them. Allah, who created the jinn from a poisonous and smokeless fire — min mâricin min nâr — We created them from a pure fire, He says. That is, had He said 'We created them within frequencies', then no one would have understood what a frequency is. What is a frequency? For example, on medium wave there is a medium wave radio, Istanbul radio. You bring it; on this medium wave, when it comes onto the frequency, Istanbul radio is what you play. On long wave, when you bring it onto Ankara, Ankara radio is what you play. That is, on the other frequencies, whichever radio you want to listen to, when you bring it onto that frequency, you listen to that radio.

The jinn too have frequencies like this. On those frequencies, when you search for that frequency and cannot find it, just as when that radio station does not come onto that frequency and play, we say it is off — so too the jinn's (?) comes about when that frequency is not found. In this case, when Allah Almighty says a smokeless and pure fire, He informs us that He created them within frequencies.

Against their unruliness He has also created the weapon to kill them. 'Outcast devil' means the one who did not obey Allah, who, because he would not prostrate to our father Adam, was cast out of the Presence and cursed; 'stoned' — when Ishmael's father, Abraham (peace be upon him), was taking Ishmael to sacrifice him, so that he would disobey his father, Satan goes after Ishmael; to Ishmael (peace be upon him) he (?) gives all kinds of tricks. Ishmael reacts harshly to him. In the Mina district of blessed Mecca he stones Satan. That is what is meant by the stoned devil. Thus these constellations, by Allah's knowledge, are protected from every jinn that comes near here and wants to listen to the angels' conversations.
