They (the idolaters) have adopted deities other than Allah, who cannot create anything, but were created themselves, who cannot harm or benefit even themselves, and who don’t have the power to give death or life or to resurrect from the graves.
Tafsir
The polytheists, the idolaters, have taken gods other than Allah. They worshipped living and non-living creatures created by Allah. They shaped them with their hands and invented gods who are gods other than Allah. They made these objects resemble their imaginary gods and worshipped them. Thus they associate shirk with Allah.
Have these idolaters, these polytheists, never thought that their power is not enough for anything! That even they themselves need to be taken care of! That they can neither benefit themselves nor others! If you ask these people, why do you worship them? If you tell them that they are incapable of anything, the polytheists will say, "Yes, we know that this is so, but we found our ancestors following this path, should we give up our beliefs now?
There is also a group of them who say. We know that they are not capable of anything. But we believe in the spirit that is in it and worship it. But do not those who say this attribute Allah? That is to say, Allah does not fit into anything, but bring Him into an idol and worship it. If Allah is in that idol, what about the other creatures in the universe, who are in need of Allah, who need to be cared for and protected, who are in need of Allah?
They do not even want to think about these things. Because these people harbor grudges and hatred against Allah. Since they denied Allah (at Kalu Bela), their denial there was destined for them by their willpower. These people are arrogant and proud against Allah. By acting outside of what Allah has revealed to them, they act as if they are taking revenge on Allah. They do this in their own souls and in the company of those who believe as they do, and they try to alleviate the restlessness in their hearts, even if it is only a little, by practicing nafs hewa, a love of greatness and enlightenment. In this case, they worship idols in spite of Allah. Or they associate others with Allah and say that Allah is three and Jesus is His son and Mary is His wife. Another group continues to associate partners against Allah, saying that Uzair is the son of Allah. They do not hesitate to say that angels are the daughters of Allah. They do not even want to recognize Allah. However, if people use a little wisdom, they will realize that those whom they associate with Allah cannot create anything, but that they are created by Allah, and that they are dependent on Allah. If a person worships or believes in anything other than Allah, he has a very simple idea and belief. Such people follow the footsteps of Shaytan because they like the marshes of their nafs, even though their intellect draws them to the truth. Such people are the ones who are cruel to their own souls.
If a person believes in something, he should believe it to be true after proving it to be true by means of proofs. The proofs of truth are the Verses of Allah. Otherwise, a person will be frustrated in his beliefs and suffer loss. Those who try to adapt their beliefs to their ego by living their lives as it suits them, with their arbitrary egoistic feelings, these are the people who are alienated from Allah and are enemies of their own ego. However, faith is the faith of people who believe in what is in the interest of human beings and who want to benefit from it. This belief is far beyond the human intellect, which is rooted in the Provisions and has no shortcomings, and it is the Verses that Allah, the only One, has sent to us through His Prophets and His Books, introducing His Essence. Allah has proved to every intellect that there is no other God but Him, in a way that every intellect can understand, both through His Verses and Books, and through His parables and examples.
Allah is the One Who has been addressing mankind in the world since the time of our Prophet Adam and foretold of His forefathers even before the Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) came into the world. Apart from this news, if there is no other God besides Allah, the only One, who is the creator and owner of the worlds, the absolute power in His property, the wisdom in His judgment, the judge of judges by treating His creatures with justice, He proves that there is no other God besides Him by constantly addressing us. How can one leave such a God and adopt other gods? If this one God says that there is no other God in the universe except me, can we say that you have sons, as if accusing this God of being a liar? On what basis is this accusation made? Do those making this accusation have any evidence?
Since there is absolutely no such evidence, Allah brings another example to those who associate partners with Allah, the Creator of the worlds. All creation will taste death. If Allah is eternal and everlasting with His Essence, He created death Himself. His Essence is free from death and immortal. Would people wrong their own souls by associating partners with Allah, who cannot create anything, who cannot kill and resurrect, who cannot create anything? Allah has placed all truths before mankind and left them free in their will. Whoever adopts gods other than Allah, seeks a religion other than Islam, denies the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Qur'an, and does not believe in Allah and the Hereafter, such people are disbelievers and polytheists. Such people are those who prefer the temporary life of this world over the Hereafter. Such people will be in Hell, a place of eternal oppression. Hell is an evil bed and an evil place of return. May Allah protect us from such an end.
What is said in the video
The polytheists, who are the polytheists? The idolaters. Those from the People of the Book are non-Muslims.
In one place Allah Almighty also calls them disbelievers. Yes. The polytheists, abandoning Him, Allah, those who cannot create anything, but are themselves created, who can bring neither harm nor benefit even to themselves, who have no power to kill, to give life, to raise the dead and bring them out of the grave – those they took as gods, it says. They worshipped the idols they had made with their own hands. Sir, of course the One who created those idols too, the Owner of the worlds, is Allah Almighty. There is no god other than Him. But because man waits for the Lord of his imagination – because earlier, at the address "Elestü bi Rabbiküm", he denied Allah and waited for the Lord of his imagination, and because it is written in the destiny of the person who gave his covenant that way, when he comes into the world, he will look for a god other than that Allah.
He will bring to life the Lord of his own imagination. He will make shapes accordingly. He will worship those shapes.
Abraham (peace be upon him), too, says it to Nimrod, I think. Or Moses says it to Pharaoh, I think. I have one God, he says. One God, he says; I am god too, he says. I am a deity too, he says. Well, my Lord, he says, both causes death and gives life, he says. Well, I too cause death and give life, he says. How do you cause death and give life? he says. Well, he says, the man who is to die, he says, I mean, the man I am to kill, he says, I don't kill him, I set him free, he says. And the man I'm not to kill, he says, I kill, he says. (?). So I have both not killed and given life, he says. Well then, he says, my Lord, he says, makes the sun rise in the east and set in the west, he says.
Can you, he says, make the sun, he says, rise in the west and set in the east – when he says this, he (?) there.
Yes. So people, people earlier, that is, at that "Elestü bi Rabbiküm" address, because they saw Allah Almighty as like themselves, out of pride and arrogance they did not believe in Allah, did not obey. They waited for the Lord of their imagination. But they know they were created. So Allah Almighty puts it to them so beautifully. The polytheists, abandoning Allah, those who cannot create anything but are themselves created, who can bring neither harm nor benefit even to themselves, who have no power to kill, to give life, to raise the dead and bring them out of the grave – those they took as gods, it says.
Yes. Those who are polytheists, the idolaters, took gods other than Allah. They worshipped animate and inanimate creatures that Allah created. The Indians used to worship the (?) ox. The ox. And they are precious there. Some – some of the Afghans, some of the Pakistanis still worship mice. The souls of the dead supposedly enter the mice. They will supposedly come back to life. They feed the mice with their own hands, that is. For heaven's sake. The Egyptians, too, once worshipped cows. Yes. They worshipped animate and inanimate creatures that Allah created. Shaping them with their hands, they made up gods, which are no gods besides Allah.
Likening these objects they made up to the gods of their imagination, they worshipped them. Thus they associated partners with Allah.
The idolaters, these polytheists – did they never think that the power of these would suffice for nothing? Indeed, Allah Almighty says this in a verse. Do they have feet that walk, hands that hold, eyes that see, tongues that speak? it says. How beautifully it says it. Which verse is that? Al-A'raf 195, sir. Surah Al-A'raf 195. 195. Surah Al-A'raf, the 195th verse. Shall we read it? Let's read it. Yes.
Al-A'raf 195.
Do they have feet to walk with? Or do they have hands to hold with? Or eyes to see with? Or ears to hear with? What do they have? Say: call your partners. Then set whatever trap you like against me and give me no respite at all. That is, expecting help from those gods of yours – but I have my God. You can do nothing to me. I have my Lord. My Lord is the one who protects me; you can do nothing to me. In that case, that they themselves need to be looked after and watched over, that neither to themselves nor to others can they bring any benefit – if you asked these people, why do you worship these? if you said, their power suffices for nothing, the polytheists would answer: yes, we know too that it is so, but we found our forefathers upon this (?).
Now, shall we give up these beliefs of ours? they say. That's exactly what they say. We found our forefathers on these tracks. Now these this type of people in the first part, people of the class I will mention. Deliberately, deliberately, these, together with the traitors to the homeland from outside, betraying this homeland, some who look like friends but side with European countries, people of this country – the No voters. (?) but those who follow them consciously; the unconscious ones, those left in limbo, they are excepted; some also mortgage their minds to others; some are undecided; we say nothing to these, but those conscious ones – if you said to them (?), if you said, in any situation, (?) something they'd like, you still could not make them say yes.
Impossible. He'll say "ha" – how he says it – after he has (?) grabbed whatever goods you have, he even takes you for a fool.
These are not ones to turn back either.
Except some of them. Those who followed them and became like them and will later turn back. For example, among non-Muslims too there are those who will turn back. These are excepted too. But people who consciously gave their covenant to Allah Almighty as rebels – you cannot turn them to Islam, and you cannot make them (?) anything for the good of this homeland.
There is a difference between these and Islam.
Islam always uses its reason. Even if it follows someone else, at some point it uses its reason. In the verse it says: will you not use your reason? Whom is He addressing with this? The non-Muslims. Had they used their reason, they would know Allah. In that case, because they did not use their reason, because with the feelings of the nafs they looked for a god who created them, because they saw their Lord who created them as like themselves, they did not believe in Allah and, with the feelings of the nafs, waited for the Lord of their own imagination, so that Allah Almighty says of them: they will not be able to see their Lord.
This too signifies tawhid. There is no god other than Allah for them to see the Lord they imagined. Now, in this case, a Muslim at some point uses his reason, thinks. If he has really gone astray, astray, gone wrong, like what? if he followed the No voters and is going to say no – when you convince him of this, he finds the right. Because he has the light of faith. He sees the right. Yes, you're telling the truth, he says. Don't you come across such people? You do. But you can't make a No voter say yes. They are stuck.
The Muslim I know is a Muslim, yes, but what kind of Muslim – to call him a Muslim you need a thousand witnesses, a thousand, maybe a hundred thousand. Why do I say that? Whoever they had their brains washed by, they're washed – he still calls Tayyip a thief, can you believe it? It's a matter of stupidity. He calls Tayyip a thief. He stole. Well, where did he put this money? Turkey, he says, half of it is Turkey's, he says, his, he says. Allah, Allah. Whatever you tell them, you can't bring them around. Explain as much as you like. And at some point they become like a wall. Like a wall. Now, do I doubt his being a Muslim or not?
Wasn't a Muslim supposed to use his reason?
Yes. And be very careful. The religion of Islam is something that walks on a sword, on its sharp edge. The ruling of the Sharia. If you slip once, you go straight to kufr. That is why you will always use your reason. You will not compromise on Islam. Allah's verses are light and radiance before us. Today, among those who know that Allah's verses are true are the non-Muslims too. But because of their stubbornness, the darkness of shirk – the light of faith they drown in the darkness of shirk. Because of their stubbornness. If I find it, let me show you that verse. The verses at the very beginning of Surah Al-Baqarah, I think.
Let me have a look at it. What does it say there? Let's read it a bit too. Yes.
Yes.
Truly, because, it says, truly the disbelievers – (?) whether you warn them or do not warn them, it is the same for them; they will not believe, it says. (?) I'm explaining this, that is. Allah has sealed their hearts and their ears. This too has been interpreted wrongly, of course. They have had their hearts and ears sealed. And among people are some who, though they do not believe, in Allah and the Last Day we believe, they say. Who are these? The hypocrites. In their own minds, they deceive Allah and His believers. Yet they deceive only themselves and do not even notice it. In their hearts there is a disease.
And Allah has increased their disease, it says. They have interpreted this part wrongly. Their disease has increased because of their mischief. And because of the lies they tell, there is a painful punishment for them, it says. Now look, here we come to this. When they are told: do not cause corruption on earth, they say: we are only reformers. Reformers. Like the non-Muslims' human rights. We will fulfil human rights, they say. The democracy of whoever gives the money is in his pocket. Whoever gives the money has democracy in his pocket, and money becomes his human rights. Know that they are the corrupters themselves, but they do not realize it, it says.
Why are you laughing?
When they are told: believe as the people have believed, they say: shall we ever believe as the fools, the senseless and stupid people, have believed? We know that the fools are only themselves. But they do not know it. Yes. And when they meet the believers, they say: we have believed. But when they are alone with their devils who lead them astray, they say: we are with you. We are only mocking them, that is, the believers. That is, we are mockers, they say. Yes.
Those are the ones who bought error in exchange for guidance. But this trade of theirs was not profitable, not profitable, and they themselves could not enter the right path. Yes. So whoever gave his covenant there as a rebel – whatever you do, here you cannot (?).
We're not saying this about all the No voters, of course. Because among them are those who mortgaged their covenant, who for the sake of some people follow them. Now, this is a matter of the homeland, a matter of the nation. This is not a party matter. Here there is no party at all; there is the homeland, there is the nation, there is our future. The events that have taken place before our eyes until now and that have upset all of us, all of us. What is this? You catch the man here, guilty, the judge releases him there. The prosecutor says: oh, why did you release him? Detain him, he says. There's no one to arrest him again; they smuggled the man away.
With these laws, this won't work. In this state, with these laws, no step can be taken. It doesn't progress. So for the survival of this state, for our unity, our togetherness, the permanence of our brotherhood, and to be able to hold our future firmly on its feet and leave our grandchildren a beautiful tomorrow, this law needs to change. And this law will also reform his child. It will nourish him too on this homeland. It will give his child the right of democracy too. But he doesn't know that right now he is betraying his child. For the sake of those who say yes, their children and grandchildren too will, on this homeland, be provided for.
Yes.
If he understands in the end, he understands; if not – no one can change anyone's destiny. Yes.
Again, a group of them say this: We too know that these are capable of nothing, that is, that their idols are capable of nothing, but we believe in the spirit inside it, we worship it. He brings the spirit of his imagination and puts it inside the idol. In his imagination he talks with the idol. (?) inside it talks.
Well, don't those who say such things ascribe attributes to Allah? The universal spirit is Allah Almighty. He gave people of His spirit. There is no spirit in any being other than man. And you cannot put a spirit into any matter. Just as Hatipoğlu, you know, puts a spirit into cats, dogs and plants – well of course, if those idolaters put a spirit into that tree, plant or any object, these too put a spirit into cats, dogs, living things. Now, what's the difference between the two? One, (?), makes a spirit idol and worships it. The other doesn't worship by putting a spirit into cats and dogs, but he ascribes attributes to Allah.
And Allah Almighty has not given a spirit to anyone but man. From the spirit of the Prophet, whom He sent as a mercy to the worlds, He created the spirits of all created human beings. Indirectly, of course. So Allah Almighty created man as the noblest of creatures. What does it say? Lekad halaknel insâne fî ahseni takvîm. I created man in the most beautiful form, He says. Now, since He created him in the most beautiful form, I'd say to Allah Almighty: are You beautiful, or am I beautiful? Would I say that? I'll say it. Right. Lekad halaknel insâne fî ahseni takvîm. I created man in the most beautiful form, He says.
Ve lehü'l-esmâü'l-hüsnâ – and the most beautiful form is Me, Allah Almighty says here. The most beautiful attributes are Mine too. So, by not separating us from His Essence and giving us of His part, He held us as addressees of His Essence, and since in universal form the attribute is Allah Almighty, the most beautiful forms are His too, of course. That is why He says: in whatever form you see Me, I am a (?) of it, a (?) of that, a (?) of that too. Just as we cannot pass from one (?) to another, as we remain in a certain form, because we were created that way, Allah Almighty, since He willed to be known through us with His Essence, gave us of His part and, to see His Essence in His Essence, held us as addressees of His Essence. Doesn't the Prophet say so?
In the Mawlid of the Prophet it says: I made My Essence a mirror to his essence. Whom? The Prophet (peace be upon him). Well, if He made His Essence a mirror to his essence, that is: I created you to see My Essence in you, He says. Mirat is a mirror. When a person looks in the mirror, does he see himself? He does. So Allah Almighty too: I created you to see you in the Essence. So, if He created him to see him in the Essence, then indirectly, since we too were created from the Prophet's spirit, we too are a part of our Lord. And we are people who are addressees of our Lord. On this world our Lord created, with the part of His spirit that our Lord gave us, we are vicegerents in this universe.
Every human is a vicegerent. What is a vicegerent? One who looks after things in someone's place. Is that so? Yes. These parts lead to deep knowledge. Don't let your minds get confused. Let's return to our lesson. Yes.
Well, don't those who say such things ascribe attributes to Allah? That is: although Allah fits into nothing, bring Him and put Him inside an idol, worship it. If Allah is inside that idol – while the other created things must be watched over and protected, being in need of Allah – the beings in the universe that need Allah, what will become of them? You brought Allah and put Him inside that idol – that is, you brought the spirit you worship and put it there. Because spirit alone – the universal spirit is Allah Almighty. And Allah Almighty has the attribute al-Hayy, giving life to all His creations in the universe.
So, since Allah Almighty, to everyone in the universe, gives life, if you bring this and put it inside an idol, how will so many living things in this universe find life? What does the Prophet say as he ascends on the Mi'raj? A voice (?) my ear, he says. Stop, O Muhammad! Allahümme salli alâ seyyidinâ ve nebiyyinâ Muhammedin ve alâ âlihî ve sahbihî ve sellim. Your Lord is performing salat, he says. Allah Allah, he says. Salat is prayer; my Lord has no need to pray. What is this? he says. When he met with Allah Almighty: O Muhammad, why do you not ask about what you heard? He says. You know me better than I know myself, my Lord, he says.
I have no need to perform salat. The meaning here, He says: My giving life to all these living beings I created. My being on duty every moment. In the sense of My salat, He says. His being on duty every moment.
Indeed, neither absent-mindedness nor (?) overtakes Him. Yes. If you bring that spirit and put it inside that idol, you turn the universe upside down, you see.
(?) there you get stuck on it. Yes. Now a question like this comes to my mind. A question like this comes. Of course. According to what I've just explained, it rarely occurs to people, but it occurs to me. He appeared to Moses in the form of fire, didn't He. What happened there? He left His duty. (?) appeared there.
Well, wasn't He going to give life to the whole universe?
And this is a very subtle point. Let me tell you this much.
If the universal spirit, Allah Almighty, by giving a part of His spirit to the Prophet, created all these worlds, that is, the spirits of these people, from them, a part of His Essence, wherever He wills, whenever He wills, in every part of the universe He makes manifest. (?) Now think of it like this. In one drop of a man's semen there are 70–80 million human cells, right? Human cells. If in the human cell of one drop of this man's semen there are 70–80 million cells, Allah Almighty, from His Essence, the spirit – His Essence – they ask you about the spirit. Say: it is a command of my Lord. If it is a command of his Lord, from His Essence, wherever He wills, however He wills, from His spirit, every moment He makes it manifest. If He wills, He shows it in the form of fire.
If He wills, He appears to Mary, sir, in human guise. To Mary. Yes.
Present and watching everywhere. With what? How can it be? From a deficient attribute or whatever. How is He present and watching everywhere? The roaming of the spirit sends whatever He wills wherever He wills. From His Essence. Aware of whatever He wills, the all-knowing, possessor of all knowledge. Imagine a switchboard. Connect all the people of the world to this switchboard. Listen to everyone talking there. Is it possible? It is. Aren't there switchboards? Imagine a bigger one of this. Yes. That is, unless you reach a certain (?) here, a person's mind explodes here. We're not going much further.
We're closing this now. This is enough. Isn't it, as we asked? We ask the question, we (?) the answer a bit. This is enough. Let's put it briefly like this. The universal spirit is Allah Almighty; spirit is only in man; no being can put a spirit into any being and say: I worship this as Allah. And the one who associates partners with Allah pays the penalty.
They don't even want to think of these things.
Because these people harbour grudge and hatred against Allah. Because they denied Allah at "Kalû belâ", their denials there, by their partial will, were written for them as destiny. These people are in their arrogance and pride against Allah. Now our students will understand this writing of mine, but others won't. Let's open this up. What does it say? Because these people harbour grudge and hatred against Allah. Because they denied Allah at "Kalû belâ", of their denials there the result – their denials, by their partial will, were written for them as destiny. Now someone will say: no, they didn't deny, they said yes, he'll say.
They denied in the world, they'll say. That's what they say, isn't it?
Now let's open up this point, this statement of ours, and explain the meaning of this yes once more here. Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty created our spirits too. That "Elestü bi Rabbiküm"? When He said "I am your Lord", with the akl-ı ma'at He had given them, that is, with the akl-ı ma'at He had given the souls, there, at the address "Elestü bi Rabbiküm", they divided into three groups.
Allah Almighty, in Surah Al-Waqi'ah, 7th verse, says: (?). Fe ashâbü'l-meymeneti mâ ashâbü'l-meymeneh – you on the right, glad tidings to you. Ve ashâbü'l-meş'emeti mâ ashâbü'l-meş'emeh – O you on the left, woe to you. Ve's-sâbikûne's-sâbikûn, ülâike'l-mukarrabûn, fî cennâti'n-naîm. A third group, the group of the foremost, it says. These are the scholars, the ulema, the martyrs, the group of (?). Now, here, their saying yes: we were created. We were brought into being from nothing. They see their sudden coming into being. Yes. That is, we were created. With akl-ı maat. But the Creator appears in human form.
In human form. Exactly a human. One to one. No difference. Human. And beside us, the Prophet. And he confirms to people that this is our Lord, tries to make them confirm it. In that case Allah Almighty gives people too room for thought. People think. Yes, I was created, I have no before.
Hodja, you tell it as if you'd seen it. By Allah, I did see it. I saw that realm, that's why I'm telling it. I look at myself too. I was created, I have no before. But truly, He says I created you, but is it so, did He create, I don't know. I was created, I have no before. I'm looking for a master for myself. All souls are like that. Looking for someone to attach to. Nothing – suddenly created. What will it do? What will it make of it? It isn't clear. There, Allah Almighty: I created you. I am your Lord, He says. A definite command, indeed. Elestü. A definite command. I am your Lord. And the Prophet says yes to this.
Now we too say: yes, we were created. We have no before. We don't know how we were created either. But we came to life. We are alive. Around 33 years of age. In that case I say: let me gain a little time. Maybe, I say, it isn't He who created us but someone else – what then? If we followed him, he'd destroy us along with him. Let me be patient a little, I say. At that moment the Prophet (?) to me. This is our Lord, he says. I'm apart from the people, though. I'm on their right side. They are opposite like this, in a place like a platform. And in the middle three prophets standing shoulder to shoulder.
They're looking at me and smiling like this, from below. From under their shoulders, their armpits, they look at me and smile. Shoulder to shoulder like this, they've formed a ring like this. Moses, Jesus, David (peace be upon them) – sir, I hear the word of Allah Almighty there. My beloved, he is one of us, don't touch him, He said. There, an ardour. But such an ardour. That love, in the world, once more we lived. Such a love. Ardour, devotion to Allah. Then the Prophet turns to the people again; our Lord knew it, after all. So their saying yes there is their knowing that by a Lord they were created.
Otherwise, a person who said yes there and made a covenant with Allah Almighty, his destiny as his will, a person who had his will written as his destiny – when Allah Almighty sends him to the world, it's impossible that he step outside his destiny and break that destiny. That's what they say anyway, in some verses in the Quran. He took a promise from Allah and did not fulfil it. Allah gave a promise and did not fulfil them. They speak in such (?) words. (?) because for this, spirituality is needed to open those verses. One must see them. Yes. Now here, let me read that part once more. You'll understand better now.
They don't even want to think of these, because these people harbour grudge and hatred against Allah. Because they denied Allah at "Kalû belâ", their denials there, by their partial will, were written for them as destiny. These people are in arrogance and pride against Allah. By acting outside of what Allah has made known to them, they act as if taking revenge on Allah. In themselves and among people like them, following the whims of the nafs, in a passion for great (?) and for being "enlightened", the unrest in their hearts, even a little, they try to ease. In that case, out of spite toward Allah, they worship idols.
Now pay close attention, the snobs, with the left hand (?) (?). That has become modern. Look at the nafs, the nafs – how does Satan steer this? It has become modern. Look at the posh fellow like this. So that they'll say of me, you know: (?). Allah (?) you, (?). If you abandon the One who created you and, with the (?) of that nafs, with the (?) Satan gives you, envy the non-Muslim's eating with the left, which comes from his grudge against Allah, and side with him – whoever resembles them is like them – to that verse you (?) remain. In this transient world, which compared with the hereafter is like an hour, an hour and a half of time, when he completes the lifespan from Allah Almighty, who created time, let him turn the abode of eternal bliss into the abode of eternal punishment.
Yes.
That is why those who envy the non-Muslim for that and eat with the left hand.
The non-Muslim has done what he was going to do for a hundred years, he has left this nation in admiration of him.
Gentlemen, would a person ever busy himself with the shadow of a thing when the thing itself is there? These are the shadows of that thing. That is, beings that will come to nothing. The thing itself is faith.
It is the Quran that Allah sent. It is His Messenger. If you busy yourself with the shadow while the truth is there, then all the nice things they did went to waste, and in the realm of the hereafter you will have bought the abode of eternal hell.
What are we saying? Out of spite toward Allah, they worship idols. Or, associating others with Allah as partners: Allah is three. Jesus is His son, and Mary is His wife, they say. In another statement, saying Ezra is the son of Allah, they continue associating partners with Allah. Nor do they hesitate to say the angels are Allah's daughters. They don't even want to know Allah. Yet if a person were to use his reason a little, they would see that what they (?) to Allah cannot create anything at all, that on the contrary they themselves were created by Allah, that they are in need of Allah. If a person worships or believes in anything other than Allah, he is in a very simplistic way of thinking and belief.
Such people, although their reason pulls them toward the right, because the swamps of their nafs please them, follow Satan's trail. Such people are those who are oppressive against their own selves. If a person believes in something, after proving with checks that it is right, he must then believe in its rightness.
Let's say, mathematically, I added up numbers in a column.
We do its check. Is it right or wrong? We draw a diagonal line, right? From the numbers I added we cast out the nines, then multiply. The others – we cast out the nines of their digits and put it opposite. If here too we see the number matching that number, we say my thing checks out, that is. We say I added correctly. Its check. Sir, this is the outward check of a thing, its check. If you want to learn it more correctly, you will check it with the verses. With the verses. Now a person may misunderstand the meaning of a verse. He misunderstands.
Recently, while reading the book in my name, someone (?) a wrong meaning. This, he said, seems wrong to me, but, he said. Why does it say this like this here? he said. The verse. I can't remember it now. Give it to me, let me see. That verse, I said, isn't like that. Not in the sense you understood, I said. Bring it to me, let me see. He brought it. Look, I said, here. What does it say? Like this. Ah! I remember now. It says: for the believers, for the realm of the hereafter, death is better. For the believers. Death is better. There is a verse with this meaning. Now, but this comes with some things, as the continuation of the verse. Look, I said, what does it say here?
For the believers, it says, I said. Who is a believer? A believer is a person who has risen to the nafs-i mutmainne and become aware of the divine manifestations. That they do not incline toward this world – it speaks of the world anyway, it characterizes it with the world. Within the world, it says. Rather than inclining toward the world, death is better for the believers, it says. That is, a word with this meaning. Look, here it speaks of the believers, I said. It doesn't say Muslim, I said. Because the believers know that the world is a transient life. They know the owner of property. They hand over their property to the owner of property, I said.
So they don't load the porterage of the world onto their backs. They live as required according to the verses of Allah Almighty. And for them death is better, he said. Than the world. They live accordingly, he said. Now I understand, he said. Yes. Now, every word – a person may, in a verse, misunderstand the verse. When it seems contradictory, one to another – wrong, because to him it was wrong, he said. Why does it say the death verse here? Why does it mention death? But that it's about the believer, and that the believer, to worldly goods, sir, will not incline, and that within the world the realm of the hereafter is better for him – Allah Almighty says this in that verse. That has to be explained.
Indeed, it says: when you don't understand, go to your scholars – why are there scholars? That is why there are scholars. He opens the verses to you. Now here too people may misunderstand the verses. One may seem to contradict another. Then you apply to a scholar. He will tell you the truth. Yes. So such people, that is, those who (?) and chase after Satan, who, sir, cast the hereafter behind them, are people who are oppressive against their own selves. If a person believes in something, after proving with checks that it is right, he must believe in its rightness. The check of rightness is Allah's verses.
Otherwise a person falls into (?) in his beliefs and suffers harm. Those who, haphazardly, with the feelings of the nafs, living as it suits their reckoning, try to fit their beliefs to their nafs – these are people who move away from Allah and are enemies of their own selves. Whereas belief, being to man's benefit, is the belief that people who want to profit from it believe in. And this belief is rooted in checks, with no deficient side at all.
Far beyond human reason, it is the verses that the One Allah sent us, making His Essence known through His prophets and His books – the verses. That there is no other god but Him, in a way every mind and every reason can understand, both with His verses and books and also by bringing discoveries and examples, Allah has demonstrated His Essence to every person of reason – proved it. Yes.
Allah is He who, since our father Adam, has been addressing people in the world. Is that so? We still ask of our Lord and we see the response too. What did we say that did not happen? Ah, there are those that didn't happen. What is this that didn't happen? If it is outside my destiny, He will reward me on the other side; I will be patient. Yes. In that case Allah Almighty shows His Essence every moment. With what? With the verses He made known to us. What does it say?
We give the non-Muslim calamity three times or twice a year, it says. Does He give it? Do we hear about these? Does this happen? Well, who creates this calamity?
Who sends this calamity to that town, wherever He wills, and makes it appear there?
And who addresses you up to the future?
So, if (?) we listen well to the verses, if we take them to heart – are souls immortal? Immortal. In bodies, inside this outward body, what do we say? Take Allah's trust without making us suffer. His trust. That is, our soul is a trust in the body. In that case, are paradise and hell everlasting? Everlasting. If souls are immortal, if souls are immortal, and our Lord, with His attribute of Creator, created these worlds, and the universal spirit is Allah Almighty – hüve'l-evvelü ve'l-âhiru ve'z-zâhiru ve'l-bâtın. He is the First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden. (?) I am the First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden, He says.
He proves His immortality through souls.
Well, in that case Pharaoh said I am god, he came and went, he died and was gone.
Nimrod said I am god, he came and went, he too died and was gone. Many people say: I'm a prophet, the Mahdi, so-and-so, (?), a god. He too, they too, walk off and are gone. But with His prophets, His books, His scholars, Allah, who calls out to the worlds, is everlasting. He addresses constantly. He constantly raises scholars. He constantly raises scholars. Who? Allah. How do you know? Well, I'm His student. I'm His student. I have no teacher in the world. I don't work these verses out (?) and tell them either. Because you can't actually work these verses out and tell them. You can't tell them.
You've read so many books, you know so much Arabic. Work it out from your own mind, then.
Yes. So, since in every age such a scholar will appear, how beautifully Allah proves His Essence. He proves the scholars from the verses too. What does it say? When I created these scholars, I did not take Satan and his companions as witnesses for Myself, He says. Say: (?) when creating existence, I am a witness. I am a witness. So if, both within the verses and as an unlettered man, though I have no teacher at all in this world, the verses are opened to you, and these verses don't contradict one another, and all the verses confirm one another, then beneath this you will look for something.
Why do I say it like this – mashallah – if we were boasting, you wouldn't find this rank anyway; I say it for the proof of Allah's existence until the Day of Judgment, and because it continues I say it. Allah is He who, since our father Adam, to people in the world has been speaking, and from before Adam (peace be upon him) came into the world, of what was before him He gives news. Apart from these tidings, besides that One Allah, giving news of himself, another god there is not; so that One, the Creator and Owner of the worlds, in His dominion of absolute power, wise in His judgment, treating His creations with justice, Allah, the Judge of judges, by constantly addressing us, proves that there is no other god besides Him.
Come on, (?). Yes.
Is such an Allah to be abandoned and other gods taken? If this One Allah says there is no other god in the universe besides Me, is it to be said – as if accusing Allah, God forbid, of lying – you too have sons?
And associating partners with Him, don't you fall into the state of having completely rebelled against Allah? Allah says: there is no god besides Me. And you say there is. Here, idols, gods. The disbelievers', the idolaters' sea god, air god, water god, god of this-and-that, goddess of this-and-that. Do you understand? Make it up, make it up, like this. Now, there's also the Gurul Rock there. Gurul Rock.
The Armenians, below that Gurul Rock, a place they built. And Gurul Rock is the top of the (?) mountains. They built something big there. They dug a well. There's water inside. They apparently got their water from there. In the face of an enemy, from there, all the way – there's the Melet River. They come out under the Melet River toward Giros. They were restoring that place again; it remained. While (?) there, they found a goddess.
The culture director there, the director who looks after cultural affairs – we met with him there at the Gurul Rock. Mr. Uğur invited me, but we couldn't go to his office. Sir, they placed it facing the sea. Probably a sea goddess. They're not showing it now. They've closed it off like this. People flock there a lot, like this. There's still work going on there.
People made up gods as they pleased and worshipped them.
Yes.
If this One Allah says there is no other god in the universe besides Me – this Allah, this accusation – as if accusing Allah, God forbid, of lying – you too have sons, is that to be said? On what basis is this accusation made? Do those who make this accusation have any evidence in their hands? Can anyone show any evidence? No. What is evidence? The Quran. There is a verse.
Now, what does it say in the Gospel? Mary is His wife. God forbid, may Allah protect us. Those who believe in the Gospel. Christians. And Jesus is His son. Because he came into being without a father. Sir, now, a person with reason – what they say, by fabrication, is Gabriel's (peace be upon him) breathing into Mary, it says. Then there is no spirit in Jesus; he is created from light. Because Gabriel is light; Gabriel is created from light. Then Jesus is not a full human; a being created with light, with spirit, he would be. Is that so? A hybrid, like a human shape. Whereas what appeared to her was the holy spirit.
That is, none other than Allah Almighty; but the eyes see Him, cannot comprehend. They comprehend, cannot see. But He comprehends all eyes. They interpreted that part wrongly too. And we're correcting that part. Yes.
If only they knew the meanings of the verses, if only they could know – and they don't want to solve them either. If we solve them, we're finished, they say anyway.
Since there is certainly no such evidence, to those who ascribe partners to Allah, who created the worlds, Allah brings one more example. All created beings will taste death. Free from death and immortal. He is free from death and immortal.
Those who cannot create anything, who cannot kill and bring to life – Allah's creations – by ascribing them as partners to Allah, do people wrong their own selves? People. There's a missing word here, I think; let's correct it. What are we saying? Allah brings one more example. All created beings will taste death. If Allah, with His Essence, is first and eternal, everlasting, subsisting by His Essence, He Himself created death. If He Himself created death, would He make Himself mortal?
Right. He Himself created death anyway. His Essence is free from death and immortal. I've skipped a line here. I hadn't read this part. Now I've put it in place. Those who cannot create anything, who cannot kill and bring to life, Allah's creations – people who ascribe them as partners to Allah, do they not wrong their own selves? So Allah has set all the truths before people and left them free in their will. Whoever takes gods other than Allah, outside the religion of Islam is in search of a religion. If, denying the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the Quran, they do not believe in Allah and the hereafter, these people are disbelievers and polytheists.
Such people are those who prefer the transient life of the world over the realm of the hereafter. Such people are in hell, in eternal torment. How evil a (?) and how evil a place of return is hell, that place of return. May Allah protect us all from such an end. Yes.
