Hud 63: (Salih) Shelah said; “Oh my people! What do you say if I am upon a clear proof from my Lord and if Allah has given to me a mercy (Prophethood) from Allah’s side? And if I am rebellious towards Allah, who would protect me from Allah (Allah’s punishment)? Then, you will not be able to do more for me than harming me.”

Translation

(Salih) Shelah said; “Oh my people!

Tafsir

The people of Prophet Salih did not believe in him. They demanded a miracle from Prophet Salih. Prophet Salih, O my people! Even if my Lord had given me a clear miracle and I used it as a proof against you, you would not believe me.

What do you say if Allah has granted me the prophethood as a mercy from Himself? Then who will protect me from Allah and from His punishment if I return to idolatry, which is the path of you and our forefathers, when I have received so much of Allah's mercy? Then shall I not be one of the losers, for no power or force is able to stand against Allah?

When the people of Prophet Salih insisted that they should return to their religion and worship the idols that their ancestors had worshipped, Prophet Salih told them to fear Allah and to fear Him. At the same time, he warned them that if I fulfill your desires and wishes and stay away from the commands of my Lord, will you not be wronging me, for I will not be able to escape the punishment of Allah?

What is said in the video

Surah Hud, verse 63. If you have questions, gentlemen, you may ask. After this verse, we will close our lesson with this verse. But if you have questions, we will answer your questions.

Salih said: O my people, if I am upon a clear proof given by my Lord yes if I am upon a clear proof, I too say: if my Lord has raised me, as a servant He raised, as the imam of his time, as the qutb al-aqtab, as one charged by the religion, as the person charged with removing falsehoods from it, if He has raised me so, and if I prove this in the light of the verses, as everything I say corresponds to the verses, if nothing I say contradicts anything else I say, and if I am trying to save Allah and His Messenger from being given attributes and from slanders, and if in return you cannot show me a verse as proof in your hand, how else could it be proven?

Yes.

I am upon a clear proof given by my Lord, am I not? I am explaining a clear proof. I am trying to correct the words that have been slipped in since the founding of the Republic. Every hundred years a man who is a qutb, every two hundred years a qutb al-aqtab is sent by Allah Almighty. The duty of the qutb al-aqtab is to remove falsehoods from the religion. Ninety years have passed since the founding of the Republic. Ninety years. And before that, for 160, 170 years it gathered dust, gathered dust. Gathered dust. Because in a sense my Lord showed me. In a sense.

The house of the Prophet (peace be upon him) gathered dust.

I am cleaning it. I am cleaning its dust.

And at the place where the Prophet prayed, the floor is lace, the place of prostration, where the forehead touches the ground, is woven with lace. I say, let me pray a rak'ah or two here.

I am about to start praying; on the right side there are writings on large plaques. Like the metal lettering we know.

It says: The Light of the Age. The Light of the Age. Allah Allah, this doesn't seem foreign, I say. It says: The Lamp of the Time. The words are not foreign. Who is it, I wonder, I say, and I look at the side like this. And underneath it says: Abdulmetin. I am moved. O my Lord, I say, praise and glory be to You for granting me this place, I say. About this they say: no one has touched it for 160-170 years.

For 160-170 years, this Quran no one has touched. Because the house of the Prophet is the Quran, the Quran. It gathered dust. Our forefathers used to say a time will come when the Quran gathers dust on the shelves. Yes.

So for 160, 170 years, the (?), what has been prepared, through the qutb al-aqtab who comes every two hundred years, these attributes given to Allah, the attributes given to the Messenger, the slanders against him, Allah Almighty has them cleaned by a person He has raised. He has it made heard. He does not call anyone to account for what He has not made heard. Oh, sir, this man doesn't know Arabic. He's finished. Whoever knows Arabic has grasped the essence of the Quran. Right, of course. Whoever knows Arabic has grasped the essence of the Quran. That is, it means he has digested everything Allah said in that Quran.

So where are you hiding this verse? It says: We send every prophet with the language of his own people. Where did you hide this verse? So that it may be better understood in your Turkish tongue, in Turkish, Allah raises a man from among you and warns you in Turkish, and if you, saying this man doesn't know Arabic, exclude the one who tells the truth, what will your burden be? What will your place, your knowledge be worth?

Yes. Open a verse for me in Arabic, and I'll tell you whether your version is the word of Allah or not, whether it attributes things to Allah or not. I am the tongue of the Quran, the Quran. Ask from whatever place you like, I'll answer you with a verse. I am the tongue of the Quran. Have you still not understood this? What I explain is already the meaning of the Quran's verses. If I went outside them, I would surely go astray. I explain so much. Does anything I explain contradict anything else I explain? Well, what does that mean? Must it really be explained to you like to a primary school pupil?

You will use your reason a little.

Yes, Salih said: O my people, if I am upon a clear proof given by my Lord and He has given me a mercy from Himself, prophethood, what do you say to this? In this situation, if I disobey Him, who will protect me from Allah, from His punishment? Then you can do nothing more than bring me loss. Yes. And I tell you whatever my Lord gives me. People's circumstances do not concern me. Nor do rank and position. The only thing that concerns me is Allah's verses and telling you the truth.

The people of the Prophet Salih did not believe him. They wanted to see a miracle from the Prophet Salih. The Prophet Salih said: O my people, even if my Lord gave me a clear miracle, and I used this miracle as proof against you, would you still not believe me? If Allah has granted me the station of prophethood as a mercy from Himself, what do you say to this? Will you still not believe? Then, having received so much of Allah's mercy, if I return to the idolatry that is the trace of you and our forefathers, who will protect me from Allah and His punishment? Since no power or strength is able to stand against Allah, would I not then be among the losers?

When the people of the Prophet Salih, for their own religion, for the idols their forefathers worshipped, insistently demanded worship, the Prophet Salih conveyed the truth to them and told them to fear Allah. At the same time, If I fulfil your wishes and demands and stay away from my Lord's commands, since I could not escape Allah's punishment, would you not have wronged me? So he warned them. Yes. We end our lesson here.
