We made the night and the day two signs. And We alleviated the darkness of the night and brought the light of the day so that you would inquire your Lord’s blessings, and you would know the counts and measurements of the years. And We explained everything clearly.
Tafsir
The meaning of Allah (swt) when He says: "We created the night and the day as a Sign" is that Allah (swt) reveals what He wills to people through His speech, that is, through His Signs. Allah's speech that He wants to communicate to people is His Verses. Allah's creation of what He wills is also Allah's Signs. That is, He fulfills what He intends and brings it into existence. Just as He reveals to people what He wants to say through His Verses, so here, His manifestation of what He wants to do is also one of Allah's Verses. His intention in saying this in this way is that Allah is able to create out of nothing what He wills and to create what He wills. As long as Allah wills, He will create.
If you investigate how the night and the day were created, you will realize what a blessing has been bestowed upon mankind, and that mankind will not be able to finish counting these blessings. He shows the glory of Allah by explaining His knowledge and power to people, to those who have wisdom, to those who seek knowledge, with words of wisdom.
(We have also removed the darkness and replaced it with the light of the day, which illuminates things, so that you may know the number of the years); the Earth, as a satellite of the Sun, rotates around and in front of the Sun and around its own axis at the same time, creating day and night, and the Earth rotates around the Sun, creating seasons and months, and the Earth completes its rotation around the Sun in three hundred and sixty-five days and six hours, creating years, and Allah's power of knowledge is to enable people to live on the earth. This is a blessing to people.
As Allah says in one of His verses, "Allah never forgets to bring an example with the mosquito and the larger ones", Allah proves His existence to people with examples that the most ignorant can understand and with examples that a scholar can understand.
What is said in the video
Verse 12 of Surah Al-Isra: The night and the day, each as a sign, We created. Thus, so that you may seek the blessings, the blessings of your Lord, and also know the number and reckoning of the years, the darkness of the night We removed, and in its place the brightness of the day that lights up things We brought. Thus We have explained everything clearly, it says.
This verse tells us that human power does not suffice, and that only by a Creator can such an event come about. What is the coming about of this event? In the sky, with the system of sun, moon and earth, His establishing the lunar calendar, the moon calendar. The earth turning around its own axis in 24 hours, turning in front of the sun, producing night and day. The earth turning around the sun's axis in 365 days and 6 hours, producing the years. Within these years 12 zodiac signs come about, and these 12 signs, representing 12 months, bring about the seasons — this is an event that only comes about by the might of a creating God.
Thus Allah Almighty, by showing us miracles that man cannot attain or perform, shows us here that with the might of His knowledge He is the Owner of the universe — He proves it. The meaning in Allah Almighty's saying "We created the night and the day as a sign" is: Allah makes known what He wills to people through His speech, that is, through His verses. The word Allah wants to convey to people is His verses. And what Allah creates by His will is also Allah's signs. That is, His carrying out what He wills, and its coming into being. Another meaning of ayah is His miracles. The meaning of miracles is that, as the result of a knowledge which human strength and power cannot attain, which they cannot reach even beyond imagination, Allah Almighty brings about events.
Is raising the dead within human power? Creating a being out of nothing — is it within man's power? His placing the system of moon, sun and earth in the sky; at the earth's south pole and north pole, magnetism, in masses beyond all figures, so beautifully placed; like poles repelling each other, and unlike poles attracting each other, and with the earth's like poles repelling each other, His turning it around its own axis in 24 hours. And at the same time He creates the earth in such a way that the mountains He places in such a way that, as the earth turns around its axis, even if we do not hear it, the tunes of that ney which Hazrat Mevlana played.
That is, placing the mountains like the keys of a piano, placing under the mountains water reservoirs, the earth turning with centrifugal force, and the earth, without the events happening on it affecting it, turning around its own axis, and events that point to Allah's power. Yes. Thus the meaning in Allah Almighty's saying He created the night and the day as a sign is: Allah makes known what He wills to people through His speech, that is, through His verses. The word Allah wants to convey to people is His verses. We said that in one sense ayat are also His miracles. And what Allah creates by His will is also Allah's signs.
That is, these miracles.
It is His carrying out what He wills and bringing it into being. Just as He makes known what He wants to say to people through His verses, here too, showing what He wants to do by bringing it into being is among Allah's signs. His purpose in saying it this way is to make known that Allah brings into being from nothing what He wills, that He is able to create what He wills. As long as Allah wills, He brings it into being from nothing, He creates. If you investigate how night and day were created — it makes known what kind of blessing has been given to people, and that people could never finish counting these blessings — that is what it makes known.
By explaining Allah's power of knowledge and strength to people, to those with intellect, to those who research knowledge, with His wise words, the greatness of His Being He shows.
Furthermore, His saying "so that you know the number and reckoning of the years, We removed the darkness and in its place the brightness of the day that lights up things We brought" — that the earth, as a satellite of the sun, facing the sun and around it, and at the same time turning around its own axis, produces night and day, and by turning around the sun the seasons and months come about, and the earth completes its turn around the sun in 365 days and 6 hours, producing the years — this is Allah, with the might of His knowledge, enabling people's life on earth. And this is a blessing to people.
Thus, as Allah Almighty says in one of His verses: Allah never shies away from giving an example of a mosquito or something bigger. When He says this, with examples the most ignorant can understand and with an example a scholar can understand, Allah proves His existence to people. Yes.
