Maryam 7: (Allah Said): “Oh Zachary! We give you the glad tidings of a son, his name is John (John The Baptist - Yahya). We did not make anyone his namesake before.”

We have come to the 7th verse of Surah Maryam. Allah said thus, Allah said thus. O Zechariah, We give you glad tidings of a son whose name is John. We have not made anyone his namesake before. yes namesake means his companion means anyone close to him, means his companion, even means one like him namesake. In answer to the prayer of Zechariah (peace be upon him), Allah Almighty gives Zechariah (peace be upon him) glad tidings that He will give him a male child, and the name of this male child Allah Almighty set as John. The meaning in His saying "We have not made anyone his namesake before": namesake means similar; it means like him, close to him. The meaning here is that from an old father and a barren mother, miraculously, by Allah's will, He gave John (peace be upon him) to Zechariah (peace be upon him) as a child.
