He ordered his people the prayer and obligatory alm. And on the side of his Lord, he gained (the) contentedness (of Allah).
Tafsir
Hadrat Ismail 'alaihis-salâm' used to command his people to pray and to worship Allah. He ordered them to give zakat from their earnings to those in need. Hadrat Ismail was very obedient to Allah (swt) and used to tell people to know Allah (swt) and obey Allah (swt) alone. He was therefore a prophet and a prophet who was well-pleasing in the sight of Allah.
What is said in the video
Surah Maryam, verse 55. He used to enjoin prayer and zakat on his people. And he was one who had gained approval in the sight of his Lord. Ishmael (peace be upon him) enjoined prayer on his people, and told them to serve Allah. Yet what is prayer? Our prayer is our mi'raj. Was there prayer at that time? No. No prayer. But here it speaks of prayer. Well, it says he used to enjoin prayer and zakat on his people. Here it speaks of prayer. Here prayer is worship of one's Lord. Worship.
The prophets could not perform the complete form of prayer, but they worshipped in a way close to prayer, close to prayer. Close to prayer. In its complete form, the Prophet — you know, four books were gathered in the Quran. Allah Almighty, in its complete form, to us gave the mi'raj as a gift. That is, He gave prayer as a gift. So the other peoples performed prayer in parts. Some, let's say for example, stood in qiyam. Some remained in prostration. Some remained in tahiyyat. Some went from qiyam into prostration. But the community of the Prophet did qiyam, ruku and tahiyyat and prostration, all of them together.
Yes.
He used to enjoin prayer and zakat on his people. And he was one who had gained approval in the sight of his Lord. Ishmael (peace be upon him) enjoined prayer on his people and told them to serve Allah. He commanded them to give zakat from their earnings to those in need. Ishmael was very obedient to Allah Almighty, and he told people to know Allah and obey the one Allah. For this reason he was a prophet and nabi who had gained approval in Allah's sight. Now every prophet, as I said, invites people to Allah. No prophet invites people to himself. In that case, among those who invite to Allah, since the prophets too are of different ranks, what Allah Almighty made known to man by revelation and conveying that revelation to people is nabi; being given a book is Rasul.
Well, that is, a Rasul is already a messenger, and the messenger is to be given a book, with verses. Again He puts the verse into the heart, but there is no book. With the nabi. Well, let's not say there is no book, but some of the verses are somewhat lighter. For example, there is a verse in the Torah. In the Psalms there is something a bit above it. In the Gospel, higher still. In the Quran there is its fully clear form. Now in this case the verses come as verses. And separately, what Allah Almighty gives to the heart, His speaking with people, what for us He calls inspiration — our inspiration corresponds to the verses, but to His servant as verses He gave it — these are such people.
Moses, David, Jesus, our master the Prophet. And also Ishmael — He speaks to him. Verses — they too appear in that Quran as well. But he has no book. What was the book? With a book, one was a Rasul. He will have a book. That is, together with verses, he will show Allah's verses to people. The nabi too received verses, but a book — he has no book. For example, it says he used to enjoin prayer. Well, he enjoined prayer — how did he pray? Now I am asking. Again He revealed to his heart; he speaks those verses but no book was written. After that, where are they gathered? They are gathered in the Torah, in the Psalms, in the Gospel, in the Quran they are gathered.
I don't know, (?) this part. Yes. Ishmael too is a nabi, well,
he commands zakat. It says he was one who had gained approval in the sight of his Lord.
