Translation

He said; “Did you come to drive us out of our home with your sorcery, Oh Moses?”

Tafsir

When Pharaoh could not find any words to say against the Truth in the face of the miracles shown by Allah, he chose the way of evil and said to Moses (did you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?)

Pharaoh also understood and knew very well in the face of the miracles shown by Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' that there is indeed a God. But he did not want to submit to Allah because of his ego, his arrogance and pride, and because he liked his position and his claim to godhood.

Pharaoh did not want to know Allah as Allah because he liked the state of some self-interested people in the worldly life, or those who feared Pharaoh and obeyed him as a god. The fact that people considered Pharaoh to be a god gave Pharaoh a distinct characteristic and pride, and he preferred the worldly realm to the Hereafter. In defiance of Allah, he called the miracles, which he himself knew to be true, magic, and made Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' appear as a magician to his subjects.

But if he had been a god, he would have prevailed over these miracles which he called magic. But his people, like Pharaoh, were people who disbelieved in Allah, so they clung to each other's rope. Instead of obeying Allah, they obeyed Pharaoh by refusing to give up Pharaoh.

Surah Ta-Ha, verse 57: Pharaoh said, have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses, he says now. This time he takes these things to be magic. Well, if you are God, if you are God,

you have to make the magic disappear. As for magic. Allah Almighty, who created us, says this. Magic, He says, does not affect anyone unless We permit it.

That is, according to the covenants they live by within their destinies, these people will both practise magic and fall into kufr, but We do not interfere. But if you cast magic on a person in whose destiny it is not, it will not affect him either, He says.

For example, I say that magic does not affect me. Do you now know your destiny? If you say, how do you know there is no magic in your destiny, I mean, have you now put your finger on the future, if you ask me that, Allah Almighty in His verse says this. Scholars hold fast to the verses and find life, He says. What did He say? Scholars hold fast to the verses and find life. And holding fast to the verse, I say: if He says, to My servant who knows Me the (?) of Satan is ignorant, then their magic too, against us, against the verses, is ignorant. It does not work. I mean, if you put armour on a man and fire a bullet at him, does it go through that armour?

Yes. The verses are within the human being too. To My servant who knows Me the (?) of Satan is ignorant, He says.

So the scholar holds fast to knowledge, He says. He is alive, He says. How beautifully He says it with His verses.

Yes. How beautifully the verses are understood, aren't they? Do the (?) fall into place too or not? So everything is proven. Proven by corresponding verses.

He said, have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses? Since you were a god, then stand up against magic too. (?) Now you will need a magician. What kind of god are you? Whereas the God I know needs nothing at all. A deity needs nothing at all. Because that deity, that is, that Lord, since He is the one who created the whole universe, the Creator does not create His creations in such a way that He would need them. What was one attribute of Allah Almighty?

Hay. What is it? The attribute of being (?) and free from His creations, by which His creations need the Creator while the Creator does not need His creations. What is it? The attribute Hay. Yes. (?)

Faced with the miracles that Moses (peace be upon him) showed on behalf of Allah Almighty, when Pharaoh could find no word to say against the Truth, he chose the path of evil trickery and said to Moses (peace be upon him): have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses? Faced with the miracles that Moses (peace be upon him) showed, Pharaoh too understood very well and knew that there truly is one Allah. But because of the whims of his nafs, his arrogance and pride, and because his nafs liked the position he held and the claim to godhood he pursued, he did not want to submit to Allah.

Since the state of some self-seeking people in worldly life, or of those who feared Pharaoh and obeyed him as a god, pleased Pharaoh, he did not want to know Allah as Allah. Since people regarding Pharaoh as a god gave Pharaoh a special distinction and pride, Pharaoh preferred the worldly realm to the realm of the hereafter. Going against Allah, and knowingly calling the miracles shown as truth magic, he presented Moses (peace be upon him) to his subjects as a sorcerer.

Whereas if he had been a god, against these miracles that he called magic he would have had to prevail. But since his people too were people who denied Allah like Pharaoh, they clung to each other's rope. Instead of obeying Allah, they did not give up Pharaoh and followed Pharaoh. Because Pharaoh was feeding them. Yes.
