Tafsir
The magicians of Pharaoh said to Musa 'alaihis-salâm', 'O Musa, either you throw or we will throw first. Since the magicians had not seen the true miracles that Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' was going to show, they thought that the Verses that Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' was going to show with the permission of Allah were magic, and they asked Musa 'alaihis-salâm' for his opinion about which of us should perform magic first.

Surah Ta-Ha, verse 65: They said, "O Moses, either you throw, or let us be the first to throw." The sorcerers now came face to face. The sorcerers to Moses: either you show your sorcery, and we undo your sorcery, or we throw, and let's see whether you can undo our sorcery? Pharaoh's sorcerers said to Moses (peace be upon him): "O Moses, either you throw, or let us be the first to throw." Because the sorcerers had not seen the true miracles Moses (peace be upon him) would show, they thought the signs Moses (peace be upon him) would show by Allah's permission were sorcery, and asked Moses (peace be upon him) about the procedure for which of them should do sorcery first.
