He said; “You shall throw first.” Then he saw that – because of their sorcery – their ropes and staffs seemed to run towards him.
Tafsir
Hadrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' told the magicians to do the magic themselves first. Then, when the magicians put down the ropes and sticks in their hands, he saw that these ropes and sticks seemed to be running towards Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' in the form of a monster because of the magic they had performed.
Another narration says that these ropes and sticks appeared as snakes and similar creatures. In any case, the point is that in the confrontation between truth and falsehood, Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' consented to this magic in order to announce to the people the true Verses of Allah and to show them that there is no other god but Allah. Falsehood has been eliminated in the face of truth.
What is said in the video
Verse 66 of Surah Ta-Ha: "No, you throw," he said. Who is this? Moses. What does he say? Come on then. Show what you are going to show. "You throw," he says. And then he saw that, thanks to their magic, their ropes and staffs really seemed to be running toward him. Yes, Moses (peace be upon him) told the sorcerers to do the sorcery first themselves. Thereupon, when the sorcerers laid the ropes and staffs in their hands on the ground, because of the sorcery they did he sees these ropes and staffs as if toward Moses (peace be upon him) they were really running in the form of a monster.
And according to one report, that he saw these ropes and staffs as snakes and similar creatures is not what they say (?). This is correct. This part is correct. Whatever the case, the aim: in the confrontation of truth and falsehood, Moses (peace be upon him), in order to make Allah's true signs known to people and to show them that besides Allah there is no other god, consented to this sorcery. Before the truth, falsehood has been done away with.
