Translation

He said, “After you, We have put your people to test (with Aaron and the remaining Children of Israel), and As-Samiri has led them astray.”

Tafsir

Allah (swt) said to Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm': "O Musa! After you left your people, We put your people to a test. A person called Samiri led your people astray. Samiri makes a calf out of discarded jewels. Samiri, who was a master at his work, made the calf in such a way that when the wind blew, strange sounds came out of the calf. According to one tradition, the devil called out to the people from inside the calf. Then Samiri said, "This is your Lord. Moses forgot the Lord and went away.

Aaron and twelve thousand of the Children of Israel, who numbered about six hundred thousand, did not worship this calf. Others mistook the calf for a god and worshipped the image made by Samiri.

According to one narration, Samiri was from the tribe of Samaria among the Children of Israel. According to another narration, he was from other cattle-worshipping tribes. The stronger one belonged to a Coptic, or gypsy tribe.

Whichever tribe they belong to, they are sinners in the sight of Allah, for they disbelieve in Allah.

What is said in the video

Surah Ta-Ha, verse 85. Allah said: After you, We tested your people who stayed with Aaron, the Children of Israel, and the Samiri led them astray. Samiri was a gypsy, an artisan gypsy; these Children of Israel who came out of Egypt — the bit of gold they had taken with them, Samiri takes it from them and produces a lowing calf. Moses was mistaken, he says, he is looking for his Lord elsewhere; this is your Lord, he says. And the people of the Children of Israel believe Samiri. Although Aaron (peace be upon him) wants to stop them, he cannot.

Allah said: After you, We tested your people, the Children of Israel who stayed with Aaron, and the Samiri led them astray, it says. Allah Almighty says to Moses (peace be upon him): O Moses, after you left your people, We put your people through a test. The man called Samiri led your people astray. Samiri makes a calf from the jewelry that was thrown in. Samiri, a master of his craft, makes the calf in such a way that as the wind blows, strange sounds come out of the calf. A master of — a master of his craft, Samiri makes the calf in such a way that as the wind blows, strange sounds come out of the calf.

According to one narration, Satan calls out to people from inside the calf. Thereupon Samiri: This is your Lord, Moses forgot his Lord — and they went.

Along with Aaron, of the Children of Israel, who numbered about 600,000, about 12,000 people do not worship the calf. The others take the calf to be a god and worship the statue Samiri made. Out of six hundred thousand people, twelve thousand do not worship it. Look.

Here, events like these also come to my mind. We think very broadly, of course. We say that Allah Almighty, in a verse, destroyed many peoples, and after that before long people went astray again, and Allah Almighty says this: Although very little time has passed since their destroyed forefathers, how they follow in their forefathers' footsteps, He says. Yes. And these, too, despite seeing so many miracles — how they go after those old gods they used to worship — their traces, the forefathers' traces they follow.

According to one narration, Samiri was from the Samira tribe of the Children of Israel. According to another narration, he was from another people who worshipped cattle. The stronger view is that he belonged to a Coptic, that is, gypsy tribe. Whatever tribe they are from, in the end they deny Allah, don't they? In Allah's sight, they are sinners. Yes.
