Do not they see that it cannot respond to them with any word, or have the strength to hurt or benefit them?
Tafsir
Allah (swt) said to the people, "Do they not see that the statue (of Samiri) and the statues that other people will make, referring to those who declare partners to Allah (swt), those who will slander and betray Allah (swt), do they not see that these statues will not be able to answer them with any words, nor will they be able to do them any harm or benefit?
Allah (swt) showed the people of Israel that Allah (swt) would have spoken to them if He had spoken to Moses (peace be upon him) without any intermediary, and that Allah (swt) is omnipotent. From their oppression at the hands of Pharaoh, to the miracles that took place, from the revelation of the Book of Torah in the Tour, to the revelation of Allah's commands to them by Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him), Allah spoke and showed them that He is omnipotent. He gave a good warning to the people by informing them that this calf was not capable of anything, nor could it speak, nor could it do itself any good or harm.
What is said in the video
He explains it like this: that that thing cannot respond to them with any word, that it has no power to bring them either harm or benefit – do they not see? it says. Yes.
That the statue he made with his hands cannot give them any benefit or harm – do they not see? it says. Allah Almighty, addressing people: by "that thing" He meant the statue Samiri made and also the statues other people would make, and also those who declare partners to Allah's being and who will slander and betray Allah – that these statues cannot respond to them with any word, that they will bring them neither harm nor benefit, that they have no power to do so – do they not see? Allah Almighty said. They have power over nothing. He made it with his own hand. But with Allah Almighty it is not what we make with our own hands; Allah Himself saves us from His being with His power, nourishes us, feeds us, gives us drink, gives life, creates. Yes.
Allah Almighty, to the people of the Children of Israel – by speaking to Moses (peace be upon him) without intermediary – showed that Allah speaks and that He is capable of all things; He showed it to the people of the Children of Israel. From their suffering oppression at the hands of Pharaoh, from Moses (peace be upon him) conveying Allah's commands to them, up to the revelation of the Torah at Tur, in the face of the miracles, Allah made known, by speaking, that He is capable of all things. By declaring that this (?) that was made is capable of nothing, that it can neither speak nor has the ability to bring him any benefit or harm, He addressed people in a beautiful way.
