Tafsir
Samiri said to Hadrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm': "I saw what they did not see, for I took a handful (of earth) from the footsteps of that messenger and threw it (into the molten jewels). My soul made it pleasing to me in this way.")
According to some commentators, this verse describes Gabriel's appearance and a piece of earth taken from the footprint of his horse and thrown into the jewelry. Yes, it is true that the piece of earth was thrown into the jewelry. However, it is not Gabriel 'alaihis-salâm' who appears, but the angel himself. It is a misunderstanding and a wrong meaning to say that what is seen is Gabriel 'alaihis-salâm'.
Gabriel 'alaihis-salâm' can only appear and come to Prophets. He can also appear to the guardians whom Allah permits. What Samiri saw was the devil, and the devil deceived the Children of Israel and led them astray by the temptation he gave to his soul, by throwing away the jewelry that had been taken as a weight on the way out of Egypt, and by Samiri collecting it again, melting it down, and acting in the direction that the devil had shown him.
In this respect, Samiri admits it with his own mouth. The fact that he says, "My ego has made it pleasing to me," means that he has turned away from Allah, subject to the temptation of Satan. Allah (swt) is also testing the people of Israel and telling people about these events so that the generations that will come after them will not fall into such a mistake.
What is said in the video
Yes, and in verse 96 he too, that is, the Samiri too: I saw what they did not see. Of course, Satan appears to him, Satan, and he follows that Satan's tracks. What does he say? I saw what they did not see. For I took a handful of earth from the messenger's track and threw it into the molten jewelry. Yes. Thus my nafs made it seem fine to me, he said. The Samiri, addressing Moses (peace be upon him): I saw what they did not see. For I took a handful of earth from the messenger's track and threw it into the molten jewelry. Thus my nafs made this seem fine to me, he said. In this verse, according to some exegetes, the appearance of Gabriel (peace be upon him) and the piece of earth taken from his horse's hoofprint being thrown into the jewelry are mentioned.
Yes, that the piece of earth was thrown into the jewelry is correct. But the one who appeared was not Gabriel (peace be upon him), but the accursed one himself. Giving the meaning that the one who appeared was Gabriel (peace be upon him) is a wrong sense and a wrong meaning. Gabriel (peace be upon him) appears only to prophets and comes to them. Also, he can appear to those of His servants whom Allah permits. What the Samiri saw was Satan; and Satan, through the temptation he gave his nafs, when the jewelry taken from Egypt as a burden on the way out was thrown away, through the Samiri once again gathering the jewelry and melting it, acting as Satan showed him, deceived the Children of Israel and led them off the right path.
In this respect, the Samiri admits this with his own mouth as well. His saying, thus my nafs made this seem fine to me, means that by following Satan's (?) he distanced himself from Allah. Moreover, Allah Almighty, by testing the people of the Children of Israel, so that the generations coming after them do not fall into such an error, tells these events to people.
