We know better about the matter that they talk about among themselves. The most distinguished one among them will say; “You have not stayed for more than one day.”
Tafsir
Surely Allah knows the secret and the manifest. Allah knows what is in people's hearts, whether they whisper among themselves or not. In this respect, Allah says that We know better what they talk about. Because Allah knows what people hide in their hearts and speak differently with their tongues, and what people intend to do. Therefore, We are better acquainted with what they talk about.
Among these criminals and people burdened with the burden of sin, the most mature and wise one says: "You have not been in the world for more than a day. Yes, human life is like an hour or an hour and a half in this world compared to the Hereafter. Allah, who creates time within time, makes people's life spans in this world, which they think are long, seem like a few hours.

Look what a fine answer Allah Almighty gives to this talk of theirs. What does He say? We know better the matter they talk about among themselves. The most mature and sensible of them will then say: you stayed no more than a day. How well He puts it. You stayed no more than a day. Because one day of the Hereafter is like a thousand years of the world. A thousand years. Here a person's 60–70 years of life, compared to the world of the Hereafter, is a life of about an hour and a half that he lives. Allah Almighty has created time within time. In this time within time, our life seems very long to us.
From the knowledge some naturalists have gained studying animals, they study the life of a fly. A fly breeds and grows within one hour. And it grows, breeds and dies. How long a stretch of time, I wonder, does one hour seem to it, sir, how long.
What does Allah Almighty say? We know better the matter they talk about among themselves. The most mature and sensible of them will then say: you stayed no more than a day. Allah Almighty surely knows the hidden and the open. Allah Almighty, whether people whisper among themselves or not, is the One who knows what passes through their hearts. Allah knows the secrets of people's hearts. Yes. That is why Allah says: We know better the matter they talk about. Because Allah is the One who knows what people hide in their hearts while speaking otherwise with their tongues, and what people want to do.
That is why He decrees: We know better the matter they talk about.
And the most mature and sensible among these criminals, the people loaded with the burden of sin, says this: you stayed in the world no more than a day. Yes, human life in the world, compared to the world of the Hereafter, is like one or one and a half hours. Allah, who created time within time — people's lives in the world, which they think long, are like a few hours.
