Translation

And (We have destroyed due to their denial) the nations of A’ad, Thamud, Rass and many generations between these.

Tafsir

Allah (swt) shows the people whom He has destroyed as an example to mankind, so that they may be a reminder to the worlds and so that the next generation may not be like them and may know the Truth. As a consolation to the Prophet (PBUH), he lists the fate of these tribes.

The name of Hud's people was Ad. Allah sends Hud (peace be upon him) to them as a Prophet. Although Hud (peace be upon him) entrusted his people with the Truth, they continued to deny their Prophet and Allah. Allah (swt) destroys this people with the winds He sends to them.

The name of Salih's people was Thamud. Although they saw many miracles, they still did not believe in their Prophet. They caused the death of the camel that came out of the rock as a miracle by cutting off its legs. However, they had been told that this camel would be Allah's camel, that it would roam the land, that it would drink water at certain times, and that no one would encroach on its rights. They disobeyed Allah's command and killed the camel. Allah (swt) will catch them and destroy them with a single blow because of their disbelief in Allah (swt).

The name of Shu'ayp's people was Ress. According to one narration, they lived in a town near Amamah, and according to another narration they lived in Antioch near a well called Ress. They were a tribe that worshipped the Asnamah. Because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messengers, their wells were drained and they were destroyed by an earthquake.

Allah is showing the people who will come until the Day of Resurrection what happened to these tribes because of their disbelief in Allah, and that these people are destined for eternal Hell because of their disobedience to Allah's command.

What is said in the video

Surah Al-Furqan, verse 38: we have come to it. Ad, the people – Ad, Thamud, the people of Rass, and many generations between them as well, We destroyed for their unbelief, it says. Allah Almighty lists the peoples He destroyed. Why? Why does He say this? So that, by giving us examples from them, we may take a lesson. Or else, that your end too will be like theirs. That Allah Almighty will actually call everyone to account for what they did, He shows us clearly and plainly. That Allah Almighty presents the peoples He destroyed as a lesson among people: so that they may be a (?) to the worlds, and so that the generation coming after does not resemble them but knows the truth, these people are, as examples to people, presented.

And as a consolation to the Prophet (peace be upon him), He lists the fates these peoples met. The name of the people of Hud (peace be upon him) is Ad. Allah Almighty sends them Hud (peace be upon him) as a prophet. Although Hud (peace be upon him) (?) the truth to his people, they keep denying their prophet and Allah. And Allah Almighty destroys this people with the wind He sends them. And the name of the people of Salih (peace be upon him) is Thamud. They too, despite seeing many miracles, still did not believe in their prophet. They cut the legs of the she-camel that came out of a rock as a miracle and caused its death. Yet they had been admonished about this she-camel: this she-camel, as Allah's camel, would roam the lands, and at set times would drink their water.

No one shall violate this camel's right. They do not heed Allah's command. They kill the she-camel. Allah Almighty's public prosecution catches up with them, and because they denied Allah, He destroys them too with a mighty cry.

And the name of the people of Shuaib (peace be upon him) is Rass. According to one report, near Yamama in a town, and according to another, in Antioch, by a well called Rass – around there they came to settle. They were a tribe that worshipped idols. Because they denied Allah and their prophets, the waters of their wells dried up and they were destroyed by an earthquake. So Allah shows the people to come until the Day of Judgment what, through their denial of Allah, befell these peoples, and that these people, by not heeding Allah's command, have become eternally people of Hell. Now, if we think about it this way, if we think about it this way, we humans, in this world, recount our past through histories.

And through histories, what each people's ancestors did, what wars they won, which they lost, which country they lived in, they have us read in history books. Look how beautifully Allah tells us history through His verses. A history book. The book of all sciences. It's all here. Yes.
