Only those who are patient (to calamities) and commit good (salih) deeds are not like this. For them, there is forgiveness and a great reward.
Tafsir
But people who believe in Allah and the Hereafter, those who are adorned with piety, those who are patient with the calamities that come from Allah, those who patiently endure these calamities in obedience to Allah, saying, "Allah does not put on our backs a burden that we cannot bear," are not like other people.
Allah (swt) tests all people in this world, with their existence or non-existence, and also with their lives. In this trial, for those who consent to what comes from Allah and are patient, Allah forgives their sins and promises them a great reward for their patience. Allah (swt) does not take pleasure in giving people calamities.
Allah is not cruel. He is merciful. Because He loves people so much, He makes them witnesses for the calamities He inflicts on them. It is to show themselves and others what character and traits people have, and to reward those who are patient by forgiving their sins and increasing their reward for their patience.
(For them there is forgiveness and a great reward) means forgiveness in the sense that their sins will be forgiven and reward in the sense that He will increase their rewards from His Essence in return for their patience and increase the blessings they will receive in the Hereafter.
What is said in the video
Yes.
Surah Hud, verse 11: Except those who are patient in calamities and do good deeds; they are not like that. For them there is forgiveness and a great reward, says Allah Almighty. Those who are patient in calamities and do good deeds are not like that. Because these people know that Allah Almighty does not lay on our backs a load we cannot bear. These people also know that each of us came to the world to prove what kind of person we are. These people also know that our Lord puts us through a test and, as a result of this test, tests us with one another and shows those who are patient against those who are not patient. Yes.
In this case that person seeks to get through that calamity in the best way; even if he finds himself in a tight spot, he pleads to his Lord like this: O Lord, do not lay on our backs a load we cannot bear, do not make us dependent in the end; I am pleased with You, be pleased with me too, my Allah, he says, and tries to get through that calamity in the best way. These are the ones whose ranks are very high in the sight of Allah. Yes. Indeed that is what it says. If it touches him. Except those who are patient in calamities and do good deeds; they are not like that. That is, as we explained above, when that calamity comes and the calamity is lifted from him, becoming arrogant and proud, feeling a selfishness in himself, in the face of Allah Almighty's mercy attributing this to his own self, he turns his back on Allah. But when Allah's calamity is lifted from the back of the person who knows his Lord, he gives thanks to his Lord and falls into prostration.
Into prostration.
Of course there is a very big difference between these two people. One, in the face of every kind of blessing, benefits from all the blessings his Lord has given. But he does not see the One who gives that blessing. Not even once does he thank Allah. The other, the other sees that every blessing comes from Allah and gives thanks to Him.
In this case, in this case, Allah Almighty, for those who thank Him, the calamities He is to give He lifts from them lightly.
Isn't He adjusting things among His servants like this? If you say so: He is not adjusting, He is using His attribute of justice. His attribute of justice.
Well, if He gives one person in full and gives another lightly and gets him through, what kind of justice is that, you ask?
Because one never gives thanks, let's say, as an example, He will give him a calamity of a hundred degrees. A load he can carry within his hundred-degree destiny. He gives him this calamity. Don't we see it in the world too? Allah Almighty gives non-Muslims three or two calamities a year so that they turn to Us, it says, He gives calamities. And to the person who thanks Him He also gives a hundred-degree calamity, divides it into pieces, piece by piece by piece, and within the person's constitution gets him through it; again He gave that calamity. But He gave it piece by piece. For example, He will take ten thousand lira out of you.
This is within your destiny. He will take out ten thousand lira. Once He takes out one thousand five hundred lira. You pay the one thousand five hundred lira. Once He takes out two thousand lira. It is within your strength. You pay the two thousand too. He takes out two thousand lira. You pay that too. He takes out one thousand lira. You pay that too, and you understand that my Lord is testing me. Here you feel this. I have lived through these things. My Lord is testing me. And in that way, within your own world, thanking Allah again and again for what comes from Him, you get through that calamity.
Yes. I went through the same calamity, but in (?) I went through it. That is why, rely on Allah. Turn your faces to Allah. Do not turn your backs. Yes. Except those who are patient in calamities, calamities, and do good deeds; they are not like that. For them there is forgiveness and a great reward. But the people who believe in Allah and the Hereafter, those adorned with taqwa, being patient with the calamities that come from Allah, saying Allah does not lay on our backs a load we cannot bear, those who are patient with these calamities in obedience to Allah are not like other people. Now there are many events about what I am telling you, but I will tell you an event that happened to me.
This place was a factory. This place where we are broadcasting now. I was using this place as a factory. A shoe sole factory. There are 6 machines here in a row. Each machine has double stations, 2 (?) running. 2 motors, double motors, double gearboxes on the motors.
One of them went pop. The (?) bearing fell apart. The bearing of the thing, of the (?). We stopped one station. I am together with my son. We are together with (?). I don't know if you were there. The (?) were working here. No, you weren't there.
Right away we lifted this out. We changed the bearing nicely. We put the (?) back in its place. It got fully running. This time the gearbox bearing of the motor at the front went too. We have plenty of spare parts. We went to that machine at once. I stopped its station. Of that machine's gearbox we fitted the bearing. We got it running. Look, he said, the machine next to it, its contactor blew. Well, there are contactor parts. Now Atilla, my son, knows nothing of all this. He started to, you know, take this.
He said to Atilla, I said to my son: look, what a beautiful test from our Lord. He could give us all of this at once. Pay attention, I said. We fix one. The eye sees this openly, I mean. We fix one. We get it running. Bang, the other one blows. We fix the other one, get it running, and again the next one blows. I mean, it is not possible for a person to arrange this like that. This is not possible. Five machines, five out of six machines broke down. One finishes, one starts. One finishes, one starts. And we are working at full speed. We have to deliver goods to (?). Allah Almighty does not stop the factory.
He does not stop the factory. And in this way, from one station, one station, one station, that is, without ever stopping the operation of the machines, we got that calamity off us. And we kept thanking our Lord. O Lord, thanks be to You. That He does not lay on our backs what we cannot bear. These men expect goods from us. And when they realize that we cannot deliver goods to them like this, they will pull their materials out of here too. In this case we said to You: thanks be to You, praise and glory be to You, how beautifully, we said, You get these events off us, how beautiful. But this is a (?) for a person, a (?) for the one He loves.
Yes, we lived through these things.
That is why a person, a person will thank Allah for what comes from Him, not because He gave, but because He did not lay on my back a load I cannot bear, did not lay a load I cannot bear on my back, saying: You do not give people a load they cannot bear, my Allah; You subjected this to a test, and inshallah You will count me among those who get through this test in the best way and among Your obedient servants who never rebel against You, inshallah, he says, and he tries to get through it in the best way. Yes.
But the people who believe in Allah and the Hereafter, those adorned with taqwa. What is taqwa? Taqwa – they say to the Prophet, what is taqwa? Taqwa: three times he points to his chest: here, taqwa is here, he says. Taqwa, that is, from faith, fleeing from doubtful things, from doubtful things, paying attention to halal and haram, holding very well to the rulings of the Sharia, the deeds of people who, from the load of sin, break free and act toward being servants to Allah, the deeds those people hold. The deeds of taqwa. These people fear Allah. They try to act with justice, splitting hairs. They pay great attention to halal and haram.
Yes.
What are we saying? But the people who believe in Allah and the Hereafter, those adorned with taqwa, being patient with the calamities that come from Allah, saying Allah does not lay on our backs what we cannot bear, those who are patient with these calamities in obedience to Allah are not like other people. In this world Allah Almighty tests all people with plenty or with want, and at the same time with their lives. So in this testing, to those who accept what comes from Allah and are patient, Allah, in return for their patience, both forgives their sins and promises a great reward. A great reward.
The greatest of rewards is being received with a smiling face in the presence of Allah Almighty, rising to the station of intercession and being given a dwelling (?) in Paradise. There is no greater reward than this and no greater victory than this. And this is the victory anyway. Allah Almighty takes no pleasure in giving people calamities. Yes.
Allah Almighty is not unjust. He is the Owner of mercy. Because He loves people very much, in return for the calamities He has given them, He makes these people witnesses against themselves. By showing to themselves and to those around what character and qualities people have, to show it. And by forgiving the sins of those who are patient, in return for their patience, it is to reward them by increasing their recompense, that is, their good deeds. Allah Almighty creates nothing in vain and gives nothing in vain. If the human body, the human body, in the body that Allah Almighty created, suffered distress, if it suffered distress in this body, if it suffered distress, Allah Almighty would be described as (?).
Hodja, there are so many sick people, don't they suffer distress? Allah Almighty says this in His verse: Soldiers, germs are My soldiers, He says. They interpret this wrongly too. I send them on whom I will, He says, but rather: I send them on whoever wants it. On whoever wants it. If you live a stressful life, if you turn your back on Allah, if you take on yourself all the responsibility of your wife and children as if you were directing it all yourself, and worry about their future and fall into depression, if you envy Ahmet's, Mehmet's, Ayşe Hanım's or Fatma Hanım's summer house, yacht, and fall into depression in your family life,
within the stress of that body which you cannot bear, of course you will catch illnesses.
In this case you will go from doctor to doctor.
Well, Hodja, doesn't Allah ever give people the trouble of illness? He does. That person also knows himself. My Lord gave it to test me. Because We test you sometimes with your wealth, sometimes with your lives, He says.
People already have themselves tested with their lives. Those people of taqwa are also tested with their lives. With their lives. And they never complain to Allah. Shall I give an example? Job (peace be upon him): his wife says, you are a prophet, a servant whom Allah loves, O Job, pray to your Lord so that you get well. His wife and children are slipping from his hands, his wealth and property are slipping from his hands. When she insists and insists, he says this to his wife: Allah Almighty let me live eighty years in plenty and abundance. It has been eighteen years since I fell ill here. It has not yet reached eighty years, so how could I pray to my Lord, he says.
I lived eighty years in abundance, I lived in good health, he says. My illness has not yet lasted eighty years, he says.
Then, when he can no longer withstand the insisting, my Allah, You know my state, he says. That is, if it were up to me, I would never open my hands to You for these things; I would be ashamed before You as Your prophet. I would not make a prayer to You. But do not let me be wronged like this before my state, before those around me. Then Allah Almighty: O Job, strike the ground with your right foot. Water gushes out from his right foot. Wash with it, He says. The wounds on his body go away. Strike the ground with your left foot, He says. When he strikes the ground with his left foot, water comes out from there too.
Drink this water, He says. He is freed from the wounds inside him. And he regains his health. Allah Almighty gives him the like of the wealth he lost once more. Which of us will do this? Which of us will be patient like this? And which of us will be ill for 18 years and say, I lived fifty years, sixty years in good health, it has not yet been fifty years, sixty years, so how could I turn to my Lord?
He too is human. We are human too. He too is human. What difference is there between us? He too has a spirit from a part of his Lord. We too have a spirit from a part of our Lord. So then, if Allah Almighty sent them to the world as examples for us, if He sent them to us as our elders, as leaders, are we not ashamed to leave their path and, for the sake of our own health or our own self, rebel?
One must think about these things. In order to be human, to be able to respect one another, to preserve our unity and togetherness, from the stories of the prophets that Allah Almighty sent to us as leaders, we must take a lesson; we must. We must take examples. Yes.
If you ask me, if you say what does this matter have to do with our unity and togetherness here?
What does this illness, this matter have to do with loving one another, if you ask, if you take on their morals, with the softness of your heart, with your mercy, with your love and passion and affection for Allah, with the verse 'Muslims are brothers', you will embrace one another so much, you will carry one another on your backs so much, you will lose one another's mistakes within yourselves like in a blind well, that – Could there be better morals than this?
Yes.
What are we saying? Allah Almighty is not unjust. He is the Owner of mercy. Because He loves people very much, in return for the calamities He has given them, He makes these people witnesses against themselves. To show to themselves and to those around what character and qualities people have, and by forgiving the sins of those who are patient, in return for their patience, it is to reward them by increasing their recompense, that is, their good deeds. So when He says 'for them there is forgiveness and a great reward', what is meant by forgiveness is the forgiveness of their sins. And what is meant by reward is, in return for their patience, increasing their good deeds in His own presence and multiplying the blessings to be given in the Hereafter.
Yes. And one of mine (?) says this: O Lord, have Your calamities run out, or have my feet slipped? he says. Yes.
He was so patient with the calamities that came from Allah, and he would celebrate with them. He also knew why Allah Almighty gave him that calamity.
How do you know, Hodja? Allah is my witness, I too lived through these events. Indeed, if I hadn't lived them, I could not open these verses to you so beautifully.
Here we tell the verses we have lived.
Yes.
