Or, do they say; “He made up (The Qur’an) himself”? Say; “If you are truthful, call anyone other than Allah whom you can call (to help) and bring ten fabricated chapters similar to it.”
Tafsir
The Holy Quran is the Word of Allah. Its meanings and secrets are not like the languages of people who speak casually. In the spoken languages of the people on earth, letters come together to form words. These letters are casually arranged next to these words. Allah's Word, on the other hand, is as secret and meaningful as some elements combine with other elements to form a substance. In this respect, the correspondences of the Verses of Allah (swt) reveal the secret of the power of creation or the description of a substance or the meanings in it. Human speech, on the other hand, cannot reveal the secret of such meanings. In this respect, how can we bring the equivalent of ten Surahs when not even one Ayah of the Word of Allah can be translated into the spoken language of human beings?
The Holy Quran consists of one hundred and fourteen suras. Addressing human beings and creatures, He says that if you all gathered together and put your heads together, you could not bring the equivalent of ten Surahs. In the previous verse, in verse thirty-eight of Surah Yunus, he says that you cannot bring the equivalent of one Surah, and in the following verses he goes down to the equivalent of one Surah, challenging human beings and creatures, He insistently announces to mankind and to every rational person that His verses are true and that the Qur'an is not a speech spoken by created beings, and that it was sent by Allah, the Owner of the Worlds, the Almighty, the All-Powerful, and the only God besides Him, since no one other than His Essence can have knowledge of this Qur'an.
But if you speak a word in the presence of people who are asleep, their ears will surely hear it, but they cannot perceive and hear it because they are asleep. Just as the enemies of Allah were rebellious when they made their covenant with Allah at the time of Qalubala, so their ears are blocked against the Word of Allah. They hear, but they cannot perceive and realize because their hearts are sealed. Because these traits are the will of the person himself. They will never return to the truth, for Allah has destined their will for them.
What is said in the video
A Sufi book.
We have come to the thirteenth verse of Surah Hud. Or do they say he fabricated it, the Quran, himself? About whom? About the Prophet (peace be upon him). Did he fabricate the Quran himself? They say. That is what they used to say. They said someone comes and teaches him at night, at night. Now, Allah Almighty: because the Messenger of Allah had no reading and writing, ummi. Ummi. That is, we misunderstand ummi too. We say someone who cannot read and write is called ummi. Those are ignorant. Someone who cannot read and write: even a little shepherd, for example, cannot read and write. Come on, you cannot call him ummi.
The meaning of ummi is people whom, within a framework of knowledge, without a teacher in the world, Allah Almighty raised personally. Like Hazrat Uwais al-Qarani. Like Ümmü Sina (?).
Otherwise you cannot call someone who cannot read and write ummi. The meaning of ummi is different.
In that case, if, He says, We had taught you reading and writing, He says, "they come and teach him reading and writing," or else they would have said "he reads books," He says. He reads books. In that case: or do they say of him, he fabricated the Quran himself? About the Prophet (peace be upon him). Well, if you are truthful, call to your aid whoever you can call besides Allah, and you too bring ten suras fabricated like it.
What is Allah Almighty's speech in terms of letters? For example, Alif, (?): what do they correspond to with Allah? Ta-Ha, Ya-Sin, these. What do they correspond to? Whoever, about these, says "it means this" is a heretic through and through. But Allah Almighty says in the seventh verse of Surah Al Imran: those in whose hearts there is sickness, He says, those who resort to its interpretation, He says. To its interpretation.
These: the meaning of these, Allah knows best. No meaning is given to these. In that case, since Allah Almighty's speech rests on letters, the joining of letters brings a verse into being. Pay attention. In every verse, in every verse Allah Almighty speaks of His own Self. (?) 6600-odd verses; they say 6666, but it is 6300- odd. In every verse Allah speaks of Himself. That is, He says "I exist." And He also shows us a way.
Now, a person may perhaps, in a verse or in a word of his, say something that would enlighten himself or people, but because the letters he has spoken are (?) letters, it shows only one direction. When Allah Almighty's letters are lined up side by side, although they may point in one direction, the meaning changes, meaning upon meaning. The first, second, third, fifth, seventieth meaning of the verses. It is said the Messenger of Allah received seventy meanings of each verse every day. Seventy meanings. In that case Allah Almighty, (?) a sura; in one place He says, bring the like of ten suras. In another place He says, bring the like of one sura.
And in another place He says, bring the like of one verse. It is impossible for them to bring it. Because through the lining up of letters, perhaps within that verse the combined letters have, with a certain symbol, a formula, a secret of creation. We cannot know.
Within those letters. For example, two hydrogen and one oxygen form water. When these letters come together, what formula do they form?
Like what? In our world there are a hundred and forty-odd, a hundred and forty-three elements. Through the combining of elements, so many various billions of substances come into being. Think: if you bring these together with Allah Almighty's letters, then our Lord will both prove Himself personally, outwardly, in His manifestations, to existence, and show you a way, and perhaps (?) a secret of creation. It is impossible for us to bring the like of Allah's verses. Impossible. Yes. What does it say? Or do they say he fabricated it, the Holy Quran? Say: if you are truthful, call to your aid whoever you can call besides Allah, and you too bring ten suras fabricated like it, He says.
Ten suras. Yes. In one place it comes as one sura. Hodja, if mankind and jinn came together, they could not bring its like (?). If mankind and jinn were gathered together, they could not produce its like, He says. That comes precisely from the secrets I just explained. Yes, the Holy Quran is the speech of Allah. The meanings and secrets in it do not resemble the (?) languages of people who speak. For example, the word "çaldı" (stole / rang) comes to my mind now. When I say "çaldı," would you say "with whom did he çaldı"? Or would you say the school bell rang? That girl rang her bell too. (?) When he says "gelin," it can be a bride with veil and tinsel.
It can also be "come here" (gelin). If Allah Almighty's speech were as these people interpret these verses according to their own minds (they already ascribe attributes to Allah, you see), if it had been like that, Allah (?). Yes. That is why Allah's speech deepens meaning upon meaning, but a second meaning never amounts to an opposite meaning. It deepens meaning upon meaning. Like what?
Drop a stone into the sea. A stone. It spreads wave upon wave, that is, circle upon circle. Where you threw the stone, or drop a stone into a lake: at the place where that stone falls, circles, circles, circles spread out. Allah Almighty's speech is exactly like that: meaning within meaning, all verses support each other, and in many meanings show people the way. In many meanings. In that case, when they steer Allah Almighty's speech in a single direction, by their own minds, saying it that way, ascribing attributes to Allah, and interpret the verses, they both take on a burden and, because they ascribe attributes to Allah, tomorrow (?) at the Resurrection, when they are called to account in the presence of Allah Almighty, these people, so bold while in the world, how will they walk up there and answer Allah?
Yes. To speak of something unknown, or to restrict it to one thing, is ascribing attributes to Allah. Allah's verses are not to be restricted. They open meaning upon meaning. And if one verse contradicts another verse, surely it is a sign that the person was carried away into errors by his own mind and interpreted that verse wrongly. It is a sign. Yes.
In the speech of (?) people, through letters coming together, a vocabulary comes into being. These letters are lined up next to these words (?). (?) forms no meaning.
You said "apple": it is an apple. By the letters coming side by side, no deeper meaning (?); it is an apple, a fruit, it is eaten. It is what Allah Almighty says in the verse. When He says "Elhamdülillahi Rabbil Alemin": praise be to the Lord of the worlds. Isn't it? Praise be. Why praise be? Because He (?) us the noblest of creatures. Because He gave us a portion of His spirit. Because He made us addressees of His Self. Because He shared His speech with us. Because He gave fear to the worlds and gave life to us.
It goes on, meaning upon meaning. Praise be to the Lord of the worlds. You open it up as far as you can, meaning upon meaning. But you cannot say this of a human being's speech. You only point the way in one direction. Yes. Allah's speech, on the other hand, just as some elements combine with other elements to bring a substance into being, is full of secrets and meanings. Therefore the correspondences of Allah Almighty's verses bring forth the secret of an aspect of creation or the description of a substance or the meanings in it. For people's speech, however, bringing forth the secret of such meanings is not possible.
Therefore, while not even one verse of Allah's speech can be matched in people's spoken language, how are we going to bring the like of ten suras?
Some people who do not know themselves say, "Edison created electricity." Edison did not create anything; he invented.
Poor people who do not know what creating is. To create is to bring something into existence from nothing. Allah Almighty gives a very beautiful example in His verse. Or do you own an atom of your world? If it were so, He says, not even as much as the (?) of a seed from your world would be given to you, He says. What does this mean? I own my car, I own a house, I own a yacht, I own a mansion, I own who knows what, I own money. All of those are created by Allah, trusts given to you. Our Lord created these. We are not capable of creating anything. From created materials we make and discover inventions.
We make inventions. This does not mean creating. Yes. In that case, because people do not know what creating is either, they confuse it with inventions. Saying "this one created that, that one created this," they fall into kufr. Into kufr. A person should hear with his ear the word that comes out of his mouth, and speak consciously. Consciously. Once upon a time a man said this to me: "I won't do any job I can't give account for," he says.
"I won't do any job I can't give account for." This man says this outwardly, with regard to people. And what about toward Allah Almighty? This talk you cannot give account for: if you make it, and Ahmet and Mehmet listen to it, and thinking you speak the truth people are governed by it, O my Allah, the kufr that he has committed comes to you too. Until the falsehood he was made to practise is removed, from generation to generation a load of sin is loaded on you.
If a person knew his responsibility before Allah, knew his responsibility before Allah, he would need to (?) and tie up his tongue. If he knew his responsibility before Allah.
If you know, you will speak the truth. If you know, you will teach.
If you do not know, you will keep quiet.
How beautifully our ancestors put it. A proverb. If speech is silver, it says, silence is gold. Yes. If you know, it says, speak, so they take you for a man; if you do not know, it says, keep quiet, so they take you for a scholar, a scholar. If you do not know, keep quiet. Our people: the whims of the nafs, arrogance, pride, glory, fame, grandeur and egotism, the whims of the nafs have enveloped them; it is impossible for them to put a bridle on their nafs's (?), impossible for them not to submit to Satan's temptation. The world, the nafs and Satan work together, together. Man, with the whims of the nafs and the temptation Satan gives him, lets himself be dragged into the swamp of the world, and an ego, a selfishness is built up in man, and it wraps him in whims like arrogance, grandeur, glory and fame.
In that case man turns his back on Allah, becomes unable to listen to the verses, falls into being Satan's laughing stock and plaything.
A human being is one who, a human being, struggles with his nafs. With his nafs. People who say "I am a wrestler" and put on the leather breeches, if they wrestle at the top level, the top, like a fake wrestler, like someone whose back hits the ground after one or two nape holds, they must not be. Allah Almighty created man with character and honour. For man to fit the purpose for which Allah created him, he will use his character traits, his will. His will. He will understand Satan's temptation through Allah's verses. He will know how to struggle with his nafs. As a servant created by Allah, he will be grateful for the blessings He gives, and even if there is laziness, he will keep up the five daily prayers Allah has placed upon us. He will try to fulfil his acts of worship.
Allah Almighty: what we cannot bear, (?) on our backs.
The most acceptable worship in My sight, the most beautiful worship, He says, is that which is little but constant. Little but constant. Like the accursed one, being in worship night and day, taking the name Haris, and the meaning of Haris is one who worships much, a miser of worship. On the earth, a span of soil (?). (?) the prostration to the Most Merciful. He becomes the object of the angels' (?) and envy, and rises as far as being their teacher.
If man cannot master his nafs, even if, like the accursed one, all his life he worships, if he cannot reform his nafs all his life, he cannot advance even the length of an ant. He is like a bucket with a hole in its bottom. He does it from one side, Fe men ya'mel miskâle zerretin hayran yerah. An atom's weight of good is written down, Ve men ya'mel miskâle zerretin şerran yerah. an atom's weight of evil is written down too, evil. So he fills it from one side, and through the bucket's hole it flows out and away.
And he says, "I worship too." He says, "I worship this much." He says, "I am still (?) in place." If you go about sleepwalking, if you do not realize what you are doing, if you boast of the worship you do, if you see yourself above people, if, with the blessings Allah gave you, you put yourself in the place of a man like Korah, then just as Korah went down into the earth, one day you too, to meet his end, are like a traveller who has set out on the road. Yes. Then may Allah give us a good understanding. Mastery over our nafs; may we have knowledge to understand Satan's temptation, and
among His servants of whom He says "For My servant who knows Me, Satan's temptation is foolish" may He include us.
Yes.
What are we saying? We said: while not even one verse of Allah's speech can be matched in people's spoken language, how are we going to bring the like of ten suras?
Yes.
The Holy Quran consists of 114 suras. 114 suras. Calling out to people and created beings: if Allah Almighty, to people and created beings, to created beings other than people, were to call out (fine, let Him call to the jinn too), and if you ask whether He calls to animals too: He has instilled characters in them as well, instilled the duties they will do. Since all are Allah's creations, even if there is no speaking from Allah, the characters He instilled in that animal, His equipping it, by the secret of its creation, with the duties it will do, mean that He addresses it too. Yes. (?), even if all of you gathered together, you created beings.
If we leave out the animals: to mankind and jinn. Even if you put your heads together, you could not bring the like of ten suras, He declares. In the earlier verse too, Surah Yunus, verse 38, His saying you cannot bring the like of one sura, and in the earlier verses too, going down as far as the like of one verse, challenging people and created beings: that His verses are true and that the Quran is not speech spoken by created beings, and that this Quran none but His Self can fully grasp. The Holy Quran no one other than Allah Almighty can fully grasp. And why did He send it to us? So that, as far as we can understand, it would light the way before us, He sent as much as we need.
He sent all of it, and to people who use twelve percent of the mind, so that they understand that twelve; so that those at four percent understand, those at eight percent understand, those at twelve percent understand; to people, with encouragements, with examples, Allah Almighty, with these verses, held a light before people. So, just as people cannot see and comprehend Allah Almighty, just as He comprehends and sees all beings, in the Holy Quran too we cannot comprehend all of it. That belongs to Allah alone. Yes.
that His verses are true and that the Quran is not speech spoken by created beings, and since none but His Self can grasp this Quran: Allah Almighty; if created beings too could truly grasp the Quran, they too would start creating things. They would have created beings that are partners to Allah Almighty's Self. Partner beings. Although Allah Almighty gave us from His spirit, gave us a portion, and made us addressees of His Self, we are creatures. We are the created. Created. In proportion to our Lord's will, to the degree that we can be His addressees, we have been equipped with reason. In a way that we can be His addressees.
Our Lord, however, is the Creator. He is the Lord. Lord means creating. He is the Creator. No created being can be held equal to Him.
Therefore, though Allah Almighty sent the Holy Quran to us, we cannot fully grasp the Quran. It is only within His own knowledge.
Yes.
And since none but His Self can grasp this Quran, that it was sent by the Owner of the worlds, the absolute power, Allah, besides whom there is no god, to people and to everyone with reason it insistently proclaims. Insistently, with every one of its verses. But if you speak a word near people who are asleep, that person's ears surely hear this word. Even though he is asleep, he hears this word. But since the person is asleep, he cannot perceive and comprehend these words. Just so the enemies of Allah too, to Allah, (?), at Qalu Bala, cannot perceive and hear. Just so the enemies of Allah, when they gave to Allah (?), while giving their covenants, because they gave them as rebels, their ears are stopped up against Allah's speech.
That is, "Your Lord am I," (?). When He said that, because He created them resembling His Self, there people could not comprehend that the Lord who created them is the Lord, and out of their pride and arrogance they wait for a Lord they expect in their imagination, one who created them; they are waiting. That is exactly where the verse "they will not be able to see their Lord" comes in. It symbolizes tawhid. There is no such Lord, the Lord in their imagination, for them to see.
And the verse "Do you not use your reason at all?" too. Anyway, We give time: Allah Almighty gives them time. We give time. And since within this time they still cannot comprehend Allah Almighty, who resembles them, as Lord, therefore Allah Almighty, in His verse, to the Beloved of the Almighty, the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad (peace be upon him): "My Beloved, do not mind their, their denying you; back then they (?) Me too," He says. Where? At that address "Elestü bi Rabbiküm." So, when He made the covenant with each of them, their wishes and desires: Allah Almighty, who gave them their wishes and desires as their aim and wrote their destinies: Hatemallahu alâ kulûbihim ve alâ sem'ihim ve alâ ebsârihim gışâveh, ve lehüm azâbün azîm Upon their eyes a veil, and on their ears, He says, a heaviness, and their hearts: to Us "have them sealed," they said, He says. Otherwise He does not say "We did not seal them." Of their own wish and desire.
They were not sealed by our Lord's will. By their own will they had Allah Almighty seal them. Do they come and seal your house, my house? Do they come and seal your house, my house, my workplace? They come and seal the house or workplace of the one who smuggles. Yes. They always interpret the verses wrongly. In that case Allah Almighty: because they have, against Allah Almighty, a veil on their eyes and a heaviness in their ears, in their hearts, He says, there is a disease, a sickness. "And We increased their sickness," it says, it says. Shame on whoever says it like this. That is how they interpreted it.
"We increased their sickness," it says. Is Allah an enemy, that He would increase the sickness of what He created? Because they lied, their sickness has increased, it says. On its own, (?). Because of their lying, it says, their sickness has increased. We are always correcting these. Shame on those who ascribe attributes to Allah. On those who pass themselves off as scholars. Yes. One cannot find words to say here. It seems that when they gave their covenants, because they gave them as rebels, their ears are stopped up against Allah's speech; they hear, but because their hearts are sealed they cannot perceive and comprehend, because these traits are the person's own will, the person's own will. And since Allah wrote people's wishes for them as their destiny, these will never return to the truth.
Otherwise it is very easy to talk: the unbelievers deny Allah anyway, they are like that, Allah sealed their hearts; oh how nice, talk and talk, talk and talk. Allah's speech, with the science of kalam, from subtlety to subtlety, is like walking on a sword, on its sharp edge. If you grasp it with your mind and according to your mind speak, you end up like the saying "our boy reads the primer, goes round and round and reads it again." If each word you say does not confirm another verse, if each word you say does not prove a hadith, then apart from dry words, in proportion to your own mind, your own ideology you will have told people.
Yes.
