Hud 72: (The wife of Abraham) said; “This is not possible. While I am an old woman and my husband an old man, how am I going to bear a child? This is indeed a strange thing!”

Abraham's wife: 'This cannot be — an old woman, while this husband of mine — while this husband of mine is an old man too — shall I bear a child? This is truly something astonishing,' she said. So the wife of Abraham, by the standards of the world, speaks normally, with sound reason. That is, she speaks like people, as people speak among themselves. Normal, that is. But when the command is from Allah, it becomes normal. No, because the command is from Allah. But of course, although she knows it is from Allah, since she has not yet had an answer, she does not know that they are angels. Abraham knows this.

She speaks this way. Now then the angels step in anyway. Abraham's wife is astonished at the good news the angels gave. Because she herself could no longer bear children. And her husband, Abraham (peace be upon him), is very old. Since in this state they cannot have a child, she wants to voice her astonishment. According to narrations, when the angels gave this good news, Abraham was 120 and his wife 90 or 99 years old. The angels said: 'Do you wonder at Allah's command? O people of the house! Allah's mercy and His blessings are upon you. Surely He is worthy of praise. His goodness is abundant.'
