Translation

(When the caravan arrived in Egypt) they sold him for a small price, for a few dirhams. And they did not value him.

Tafsir

When the caravan arrived in Egypt, in order to get rid of the child, they sold him for a few pennies, thinking that since Joseph was still a child, no one would value him.

According to the narrations, the caravaner sold it for twenty or twenty-two dirhams. According to another narration, they sold it for forty dirhams. No matter how many dirhams they sold it for, Hazrat Yusuf 'alaihis-salâm' is an honorable person who cannot be priced with the blessings of the world. He is a beloved servant of Allah.

His brothers also did not appreciate the worldly blessing of Hadrat Yusuf and they sacrificed him in order to win the favor and love of their father. All these events are written in the past. When the time comes, every event will come to pass through reasons. People witness themselves to Allah and the world around them and earn rewards and sins. Once a person forgets Allah, then his companion and friend is Satan and his nafs. Both are enemies of man. But because what these enemies show is pleasing to people, people do not stop doing evil deeds.

What is said in the video

In Surah Yusuf, verse 20: when the caravan reached Egypt, they sold him for a worthless price, a price of a few counted dirhams. They had not valued him anyway. When people do not value many things, they do not know that what is before them is something valuable. Food, for example, is the same. A person does not like some foods. Yet they are a cure for him.

When the caravan reached Egypt, to get rid of the boy, and since Joseph was still a child, thinking that nobody would value him, they sold him for a few pennies. According to the narrations, the caravan people sold him for 20 or 22 dirhams. According to one narration, they sold him for 40 dirhams. For however many dirhams they may have sold him, Joseph (peace be upon him) is a (?) person who cannot be priced by worldly values. He is a servant whom Allah loves, and His prophet.

His brothers, too, did not know Joseph's worth as a worldly blessing. They gave him up to win their favour and love. In these events, his brothers and did not appreciate Joseph's worth as a worldly blessing. They gave him up to win their father's favour and love. All of these events were written beforehand. According to the verse saying, 'There is not a single living being until the Day of Judgement whose doings We do not know', Allah Almighty, these were written (?). 'With Us is a Book, kept in the Preserved Tablet; afterwards neither an addition nor a (?) is made to it', says Allah Almighty. Yes, all of these events were written beforehand.

When the time comes, every event appears through causes and is lived. People make Allah and those around them witnesses of themselves, and earn reward and sin. So let a person not forget Allah even once. After that, his companion and friend, Satan, and his nafs, both of them are enemies of man. But when what these enemies show a person pleases him, people leave no evil undone. Yes.
